    Well, in an actually lighting course you can probably give people this same info in 10 minutes at the start of the semester but then it will take them the rest of the semester to actually learn how to use it and understand it. So anyone who watches this video might have the info but they're still going to have to go out and put in practice to really understand it and own it. Please note: this is not a critique of the video. It's well thought out straight to the point and nicely done.

    he got a couple of stuff wrong, there's no such thing as a standard key light position, he got the definition of keylight wrong, a keylight is the main source of light. he got flat lighting wrong. Flat lighting is when your subject is evenly lit. The light doesn't have to be close to the camera. There are no placement rules for lights, if you're in a lighting course in college they would of told you this. This is the same reason why people keep calling every camera move a pan

  • @BombshellCelluloid

    @BombshellCelluloid

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@AnimeZone247 I don't think he got them wrong. He explained the reasons behind the placement suggestions and also said these are guidelines. For instance he specifically says what flat lighting is and then gives the EASIEST way to get it in a 'text book' situation. But, that IS why trying to learn lighting from just a 10 minute video is only going to teach you the rudimentary 'standards' to fully understand it you've got to put it into practice, which is also what he says as well.

Solid info here covering the foundational basics of good lighting in one concise video - and a nice refresher for us veterans :D Well done!! @@EpicLightMedia Agreed... Plus, not everyone has the opportunity to get in the head of an actual cinematographer/DP to understand what they're thinking about lighting a scene and what it does to move the story. Too many times youtubers show how a lighting is achieved but as far as why or what it does for the story, I don't see as much. I like how this video did some of that. :)

    2 years of my master degree in film, not a single cinematography instructor touched based on the very detailed things that you have explained in this video, I will suggest my whole class to watch your lighting tutorial as they are directly related to films and practicality. Please keep creating amazing lighting tutorials as there is not a single youtube channel specializing on the film lighting.

    It's refreshing to see videos about lighting, which like you said is way more important than the camera you're shooting on. Also lighting people and not banging on about "cinematic b-roll!" Thanks.

What's good is you hit all the key points in this 10 min video without all the waffle and I appreciate that. I'm also going to look at getting some lighting to grade up and improve the standard of the handful of videos that i've done previously

    Great video thanks! Used this to do my first attempt at actual lighting.... a swing arm LED desk lamp overhead, and 3 lightbulbs thrown into an ikea box on top of a couple more boxes on a chair with a bed sheet over the front as a diffuser! And it actually worked 😂👍👍
