    Fantastic Video, hope you can share in the future, some of the more advanced features that Ultimate 12 has. I do have a question, you mention the light of your background is at 44 IRE, and I notice the false color shows pretty even. I have tried this, but my result is a green horizontal zone that moves up or down if the intensity is adjusted. Are you using some kind of range in the IRE display? Hope you can share your take on this. Thanks.

  • @SociallyU

    Thank you. There is so much the Ultimatte can do! In our latest episode of the debrief I show some more details about keying. False color is the secret. It is definitely a challenge to get an even lighting on the background. If you are getting that horizontal zone I would try to diffuse the light or back it up. I'm not using a range. That's just a lot of time spent working on the lighting! Hope this helps and thanks for watching! -André

    Amazing video, really nicely done! Maybe you can chime in with your background in using Ultimatte - doing the same here and generally speaking my settings and approaches are along the same lines you describe. I usually do Matte Density first and Veil later, but this is just personal preference. What do you do if you have a relatively perfect key for a dark haired talent and once you swap for blond hair it looks like as if there is small "movement" (noise, artefacts) in the hair area. No pun intended - but literally pulling my hair out.

  • @SociallyU

    @SociallyU

    Жыл бұрын

    Blonde hair is challenging! Things I've learned. Make sure that false color is extremely even. Second, having a hair light that can counteract any green spill is important. Third, if the background is bright, sometimes having a rim light actually makes it look worse. Let us know any tips you figure out! We are all in this together. Oh and also, I try to never adjust matte density or black gloss with blonde hair. as soon as you change those dials it will affect the hair. And another one :) We use Chromalight paint and it really limits the spill onto the talent.

    The Ultimatte has an ability to load stills into it, however, we haven't had success making that work yet. We are sending a background via SDI into the unit. Hi there, because the Ultimatte is a live keyer we have a standard color profile in place. Our goal is to get a final image out live. If you shoot log, you will be doing a key in post and the Ultimatte isn't the solution. We have found that the Delta keyer in Davinci Resolve is really great and that's what we would recommend if you are recording live and keying in post.

    Great video, thanks for sharing. Wondering what cameras you're using and having the best success with for Ultimatte and maybe a touch of camera settings. We're using a Sony FS7 with the Ultimatte 12 HD. It gives us a great 10-bit 422 image, downsampled from the 4k sensor. It's been great but sometimes I'm noticing a bit of noise right on the edges, even after adjusting veil... We've got a ton of light so we can run the camera at it's cleanest setting gain-wise, -3db / ISO640. Running a little more shutter than normal - about 1/120 for 30fps. The green is perfectly flat and we're using proper Rosco Chroma Green paint. Noise reduction is set to OFF because I've always had better results with keylight if the camera isn't applying it's internal noise reduction which can mess with your matte edges. Wondering if we just need a cleaner camera for perfect results.

I'll def check out your Notion document. I feel like there could be a whole discussion on greenscreen background brightness. In keylight I find keeping it around 40-45 IRE works great. With the Ultimatte, I've actually noticed that the internal matte is cleaner when we light the background to 55-60 IRE, and by cleaner I mean less noise in the Internal Matte view after sampling the screen. We are using a computer or hyper deck to feed the video into the Ultimatte. That's the only way to play back a video. The internal storage only does a still image. Also it's important that the format of the video matches exactly the resolution and frame rate of the foreground video / what the ultimatte is set to.

    We shoot a lot of plates and measure our exact camera distance / angle, lens, exposure, etc. We also, of course, use Unreal and create a lot of backgrounds with that.

    If you’re not doing anything live, does the ultimatte device still create a better key than tools in resolve? Or does it make it a lot easier even though resolve is just as capable but would require more fiddling?

    Hi Andre thanks for the video, I have a question. I intend to buy the HD 12 mini. Is it possible through the "program out" or the "monitor out" of the Blackmagic Send the signal to an acquisition card (for example the Elgato Cam Link Pro or the Blackmagic Recorder 4K) and bring the signal into VMIX? Thanks for your patience!

  • @SociallyU

    @SociallyU

    11 ай бұрын

    If you are asking if the keyed out footage would come into VMix I think the answer is no. You will need an Ultimatte that will send both Key and Fill. Then the system you are using (VMix) would have to “understand” key and fill. I’ve never used VMix so I’m not sure if it could or not. If you are asking if you can send the final composited shot into VMix then that answer is yes. Hope that helps.

    @@SociallyU Thanks André!. By reading the blackmagic ultimatte manual, there is the possibility of sending the fill out to the "monitor out", as well as obviously the program. I need to figure out how vmix interprets this signal

    Is ~44 IRE the perfect brightness for the green? Which BMD camera do you use? I still have problems with BRAW and greenscreen (I don't have the Ultimate 12) and get way cleaner results with an old FS700 and a Odysee Q7 RAW recorder (12-bit CDNG). I expose the green around 55-60 IRE. That works fine with the Sony but is a mess with my BMD cameras.
