Snagging in any form should be illegal....learn to catch them legit, pay a guide if you have to. Sad. Snagging shouldn't even be mentioned on KZread because other countries will eventually read, and have the misconception that they can come to the Salmon River, to HUNT salmon.....snagging is no different than hunting IMO. You are a human, use your brain and stop using led / sharp hooks to force your will onto the fish. I feel sorry for any individual that doesn't have the mental or financial resources to catch a salmon legit.

@@Handberrydea I did, but are you familiar with how a Google / Cortana search engine works? If you google "Snagging Salmon River" 1) these comments will show 2) they will then be directed to the video, so immediately an association (albeit a fallacy) can be made between Salmon fishing in NY and snagging. If snagging was completely forgotten about, ie. lost through the generations of fishermen, then poaching would be so much less of a problem and the fishing might have been better these past few years,. But hey, that's my opinion. Thank you for posting!

Solid hook ups, the first fish in slow mo along the wall at the lower fly was a HAWT fish. I have only seen the lower fly and the river in general that low a few times, luckily it was during the week so there wasn’t a ton of pressure. Typically I like it more at 800-1200….the steel feel so much more comfortable and they’ll slam flies, especially streamers with reckless abandon. Glad your 30th was what it was bro, memories that stick with us.

Can we stop hunting this species and start just fishing for them? When Salmon were first introduced to the Salmon River, locals were technically allowed to shoot the fish (this was 50 or so years ago, i think). Obv. regs have increased as poaching efforts and population declines mandates. Snagging is next....can't wait to spot some sorry folks foul hook a fish, even worse, keep a snagged fish, and have the DEC / DEC drone dept. get your license plate / personal info.

Best way to get a fish hook out on stream is us a heavy mono like 20 or 30 pound if you have it. Loop it around the shank and pull super hard and super fast. Other way is to pinch the barb down before fishing it.

Hate to say this, but Salmon RIver fishing has only 3-5 years before it no longer becomes a viable tourist attraction. Overfished and poached.....and now with the changes in global media - enter the phase of overseas overfishing where countries that have decimated their salmon fishing will now be googling "SALMON FISHING" in the USA....naturally redirected towards the Salmon River. Ask any local near Pulaski, ice has yet to form which is unheard of for the last 10 years. Global warming? Salmon stocking problem? Could be!
