To prevent the cards from falling out of their pockets you could try putting the cards into sleeves and use double sided tape to secure them. You could get some tight fitting sleeves so that you wouldn't need too much bigger of a space. Base set cards should be sleeved anyhow lol.

oh man, pokemon is so nostalgic. Some of these cards would probably be worth a nice chunk of change seeing all the hype these past few months
@JohntheSchreiner

Probably yeah. A good chunk of them were 1st editions, holographic, or both.
Pokemon and woodwork... gold! :D Looks super cool. If those are first editions they are worth a pretty penny these days.

that was very satisfying to watch! regarding the static, I wonder if you could discharge it by touching it while grounding yourself?
@JohntheSchreiner

Thanks! Possibly. I don’t know how well it would work though. I don’t think acrylic is all that conductive. Good idea though.
Super cool project. I know with framing photographs, which I realize are much smaller, I use push down spacers that press the matte cutout and photo forward onto the plexi. Otherwise the cards could have been left inside of snap-tits or any other kind of sleeve and two sided taped in place.
@JohntheSchreiner

That's true. would have been relatively easy to re-size the pockets at the beginning to allow for a sleeve. Would have been good.
That looks really good! Don't know anything about Pokemon, except that I have sons who know about Pokemon!

Hello! Thank you for your interest, shoot me an email at johntheschreiner@gmail.com.
Buy cabinet grade MDF. It doesn't soak up the paint at all. And its a lot easier to work with. Great job by the way.

Good to know! Thanks!
Hey bro, wonderful job! I have few questions if you don’t mind. Are those cards are coming into front when you locate the frame vertical ? I mean are they stable slots? And did you use any sleeves or just put the cards into the slots?
@JohntheSchreiner
2 ай бұрын
Thank you! The cards are just sitting in the slots by themselves. No sleeves. For the most part the cards sit in their slots with no problem, however if the frame is bumped or tilted too far forward they can slip out.
Hi do you have a drawing or cnc file to copy this design from? I want to get some quotes from some local cnc places and be great if I had something to show. Brilliant video BTW.

Whoops! Should be fixed now.
Great frame. There are actually "anti-static spray/cleaners" available. You should be able to use that to reduce the static. Either way.. I was always under the impression that woods have acids in them, that will (over time) seep into the cards and collectables. . So perhaps not the best idea for the high valued cards. But, still cool.
@JohntheSchreiner
Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I think the static might not be as much of an issue anymore, at least from what I've heard from my sister. I assume it's dissipated over time and was really only an issue the first while after I pulled the protective sheeting off. As for the acidity, I can't say that was something I considered, but good to keep in mind for next time.
@chomper1329

Static elec. You can dissipate by giving a source to a ground. For the acids I just watched another framing tutorial and he used "archival" wood, glass, tapes and such which don't have those harsh acids.
@JohntheSchreiner

Archival materials is a good idea
tincy incy little slice of clear double sided tape on a KMC perfect fit sleeve should prevent it entirely but y'know some people like to display their graded cards in their slabs which might be better using some sort of glued friction fit foam cutout with a bit of matching cut black paper over it. instead as people typically don't like the idea of the graded cards case being damaged or stuff stuck to it. edit: nvm i just see someone already said that oops.
@JohntheSchreiner

No worries! Still a good idea.
This is dope. What I did was bought a frame from Walmart then glued binder sleeves on to it.

@@JohntheSchreiner Not good. The sheets ending falling off at the end so I placed staples on the very corners to avoid damaging the cards. That ended up doing well. I couldn't be happier ☺. I didn't see the point of having a nice collection tucked away in a drawer somewhere.

Glad you found a solution! Yeah there’s no point in keeping something like that hidden. I’m sure there are purist’s who feel they should be archived and only looked at with nitrile gloves on in a dark room, but where’s the fun in that, haha
Great video mate. How much did it cost to make? I am currently wanting to do the same with my cards and weighing up whether it is worth making myself or just paying someone to make it. Cheers
@JohntheSchreiner
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Material cost was fairly low for what I charged for the project. Mark charged me $125 for the CNC work and he supplied the mdf. The oak I’d already had from another project but that would have been about $20. Plexiglass was $120, and then I’ll say another $80 or so for the finish and miscellaneous hardware.
What kind of tools would you recommend to someone wanting to start making card frames. Asking for a friend… lol
@JohntheSchreiner
2 жыл бұрын
I would say a table saw, and a router/router table would probably be the best bet. Table saw to break down the material, and the router could do all of the pockets and dados in the frame material. For big tools anyway. You’d also need a square, straight edge, pencils, etc, haha.

A bit of blue tack behind the cards ? They would stick to the wood
@JohntheSchreiner
Жыл бұрын
That would work, though I have seen some leave a bit of a grease spot behind over long term usage so that might not be a great idea if they are more collector-ey cards.
@neoxjin
Жыл бұрын
@@JohntheSchreiner If you are wanting to friction fit the edges of your cards against painted wood, i don't think the risk of a grease spot behind the card is a big deal tbh :p But I get your point. Worst case you can put them into sleeves first. And then blue tack (or double side tape, like many other comments suggested)
You know a pokenewb when they want to frame the 152 instead of 102.
