Wow! The shape is perfect -- kind of like a volcano from the side views. The sheen is ideal -- not too much shiny-shiny to detract away from the colors and grain. The chatoyance is infinitely awe-inspiring -- love those rays inside the bowl. This is more gem-cutting than wood turning. Beautiful, all around.

Hello Phil. At about minute 27, you ask, "can you see the salamander"? My mother and I both got a smile from that because she saw a gekko and I saw a sugar glider. :-). Anyway, as always, thank you, thank you for bringing us these videos.

Nicely done Phil! I’m glad to hear that you prefer the natural properties that might cause a bowl to remain thick. I have found that truth in some of my turnings too, but am a little sheepish that I didn’t thin the bowl out further. This piece is a showcase for natural bowls everywhere. Thanks so much!
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop
Ай бұрын
Cool, thanks Karen! 😃 I do like bowls that are a little chunky. They have some heft that give a feeling of value, to me. On the other hand, I usually try to make them as thin as the characteristics of the wood will allow. Luckily for me, I like weird wood so they often have thick sides because otherwise, they would have holes in them!
I’d been watching the salamander all through the video, and was happy to hear you mention it while showing the finished bowl. I’ve actually heard a few people say they “suffer” from pareidolia, but I take a bit of pride in raising mine to an art form unto itself. So you can take my word for it: yes, there are several human and animal figures, most notably a crouching lion on the back side. Thank you for another great video.
