@@w6qd From my understanding, it's an EPA thing. They rev limited them, this older one to 12.5k and the new ones to only 9.6k rpms and then made it so you can't adjust the H jet, from the factory, to keep people from running them up. Which is looked at as bad for the environment, or whatever. They do tend to run fat with the fixed jet, but I don't know if it's different for different countries, or regions, or what. From what I was told, the fixed H jet, provides fuel for both the low jet and the high jet, even after the adjustable H jet is added.

Hey Joe. I have essentially identical porting numbers (within 0.10 degrees) on my 3120xp as you are describing here, except my intake duration is less (135.8 deg vs your 142 deg) and my squish is tighter at 0.580mm (0.0228") compared to your 0.027" squish, with a calculated compression ratio of 8.94:1. I've also enlarged and radiused the lower transfers and slightly widened the uppers, widened and radiused the exhaust port sides, and widened the intake just a little to take off the internal side 'ears.' Also lightened the piston and massaged and polished the piston windows and Al-Ox - media-blasted the underside of the deck and internal skirts to create more surface area for piston-cooling, and coned the ID ends of the piston pin, all to reduce reciprocating mass by about 21g. Cold spark using B10HS. She runs like a raped ape, but smooth as silk and cool with NE 93 octane and Maxima K2 at 24:1. Your ported saw has a torque dip just after 8400rpm. How would you go about reducing that torque dip through 9600rpm? I'm thinking my intake duration should be a bit longer? This is not a race saw, just trying to maximize power with reliability. Thanks -doug

Main way to move the torque up higher is to add some duration. But all the other little tricks you have done will definitely change the powerband some. Sounds like you did a great job!

Most of the torque gains are going to be from the increased compression. The porting raised the peak efficiency RPM, and any increase in RPM will increase horsepower.

these big saws definitely don’t make sense stock, i noticed that in one of your earlier videos the stock 395 made 7.8 hp stock and the 3120 was 7.7hp the torque was 4.4 on the 395 and 4.8 on this 3120 so your simply gaining a little bit of torque for a saw that weighs a lot more.

Hp wise stock for stock the big saws don't make it. But they do make the tq to make up for it. The numbers listed in the box are taken close to peak power rpm. To get the true peak tq you have to follow the line back and read the scale.
