One thing to be aware of for those thinking “oh they’re package fresh they should all be 9s and 10s”… GPK has notoriously poor centering. So there could be a ton in great shape but centering is a huge risk

💯
For series 1 and 2 you loose the top card to the gum stuck to it and you loose the back card to the wax seal on the pack...
80s boxes are a big gamble. The packs could have damaged cards or warped cards. Unless you know the seller and they can vouch the packs are flat and gum is loose. Cool stuff and valuable nonetheless
What a fun gamble to take if you had the money or can go into it with someone and split the cost
My thing is the original series 1-16 Wacky Packages. I was 9 when series one came out. I’m still trying to get all of them but the series16 ones are rare and expensive. So far I have accumulated 5 from series 16.

OS16 wasn’t released. It was printed but canceled and never hit the stores.

@@jasontipps5673 wow I’ve been collecting these since then and didn’t know that. Even in the wacky packages page I belong to ran by Greg Grant makes no mention of that in the series 16 info. And that makes sense because the shipping cases dates don’t match the copyrights on the stickers. No wonder nobody knew of them. Appreciate that always something new to be learned.

@@jasontipps5673 loved those packs!
I remember when I was 7 or 8 years old my friends and I would ride our bikes miles up to the nearest store so we could buy those Garbage Pail kids. I used to have hundreds of them. Sadly I was not smart enough to see the value in them and saved zero of them

Who knew back then.
I’ll buy this just for the 40 year old gum
how many sets can be made out of a complete wax box?

There would be 240 cards in 48 packs. One card is typically ruined by the gum, even when the gum still slides in the packs. And usually the back card has wax residue which, although can be mostly removed with a nylon or other methods, usually wipes out your chance at a decent grade for those back cards as well. So realistically you get 3 decent cards per pack. So you’d get 144. In the 1st series you need 82 cards for a base set and 88 for a variation set (with all check lists) and completists even go for all single/double “*” sometimes. So considering the amount of doubles and damage typically found in a box, it’s more often than not you won’t get a full set these days. But it can happen. And there’s other things to look for. In the 1st series, glossy backs are slightly more rare and command 50% or more in value to their matte back counterparts. In the 2nd series it’s just the opposite. And in the 15th series, some of the cards were die cut (like all other series were) while most weren’t. The die cut sets/boxes command the highest prices behind the 1st & 2nd series. And there’s a specific error card in the 9th series found only in Canadian boxes with “All New” packs that drives the cost of those now rare boxes up into the 4th most expensive box range. Regardless of all of that, it’s almost certain you would lose $ opening those valuable boxes and even the lesser spendy ones as finding PSA 10s is so difficult with TOPPS’s QC practices. Many people opened their 1st series boxes before the pandemic and that’s when prices really jumped. So I humbly suggest keeping boxes intact these days. AND 1st series GPK packs are notorious for being repacked. Even BBCE doesn’t have a 100% accuracy rating. So definitely look for an authority on those things before you invest tens of thousands of $ into a collection from a stranger. Good luck!
