It must have been earth shattering on the dali when the bridge came crashing down on top of it, i bet the seaman aboard will never forget the crashing and the noise it must have created
I'd like to see the bow of the Dali cleaned, and as others have said "thank you Captain for sharing and always awesome.
Thanking you Captain. Absolutely brilliant footage.
This is what I want to see. I want to see how they remove this massive piece, and the crushed containers underneath, plus the condition of the ship's bow deck. Those crushed containers saved the ship from complete destruction.

Yup, they saved the deck from being pierced/collapsed by the falling bridge concrete. They absorbed lots of the impact energy and spread the load over the entire deck.

Admittedly I have not been following this operation closely, but it seems to me that very little has changed on the bow there since the roadway was removed like, what, 2 weeks ago? What of any significance has been accomplished other than cutting off that short chunk of the bridge pier? This is some painfully slow work.

@@MrPLC999 I was thinking the same. It is taking longer than I would have thought. Maybe they are working below decks to prepare the ship to sail, however, those forward damaged containers and concrete blocks could have been taken off more quickly imo.
I really enjoy each installment you bring us on the progress being made, Captain Andy. Thanks so much. Your focus on the economics of the shipping industry and how that comes into play with what happens to those containers, and where it happens, was really interesting. Valuable insight for those of who know little about commercial shipping. As always, happy to be aboard, Sir!
I love seeing the footage of "Scuffy the Tugboat", going solo, across the channel.
Those crushed containers, probably helped prevent even more damage to the ship, they appear to have absorbed a lot of the impact, much like a car that is designed to have a crush zone to protect the passengers.
Man 'o man .... that pillar is 'uge! Really happy that you're covering this event. It is rare we get to see complete, up-close, coverage. Very much appreciated, Captain. Stay safe out there.
Hey Captain !! The viewers know that if this ""WRECK" was in your area, you'd be out everyday to video !! Thanks for your time & travel to get these videos out for ALL to see !!🤔🙄🙃😉😊👍👍👍👍👍
I would not be surprised if over 100 containers have been damaged. The problem will be they cannot come off the ship with the normal container cranes as they have been so badly compromised. Just shows that given enough weight, shipping containers are not that strong. I can just imagine if they have any content it will be written off. Thank you for the updates and may your drone always return safe and dry.

They tend to load empty or light containers forward - because the bow has low buoyancy.

I have a cargo in that ship , no one from the agency nor the shipping company knows anything!
They are being held until the shippers insurance and the receivers insurance have agreements in place to cover potential law suits!
Amazing amount of work required here !!
This Dali ship was outgoing, so bound for foreign ports, best I understood. So someone other than USA were/are waiting for goods.

On route to Colombo, Sri Lanka, non stop.
Other than smaller debris, it could be they plan to remove from Dali's deck only the things they think could shift, fall or even go overboard during the trip to Norfolk. When Dali was moved to Seagirt, I heard it would be there for about 6 weeks before heading to Norfolk. That move happened on May 20, so it's been a couple of days more than 4 weeks now.
Great videos! I still can't get used to how massive those container ships are. those little people walking around on that deck look like ants It's pretty amazing how much has been accomplished both with bridge removal and now the Dali. Thanks for keeping us updated :)

And Dali isn't even big, for a container ship...
The concrete cap lying on the bow is on its side. When under the bridge fulfilling its intended role, the top is now vertical on the far side. We see the bottom of the cap as a vertical wall. The workers are walking on the pier's south side when it was under the bridge.
Yet the Great Pyramids was built with 2,300,000 Million of Solid blocks this size. And here we have to break it up to remove it. and have this huge equipment.
@skayt35

The blocks of the Cheops pyramid on average weigh 2.5 metric tons which is definitely less than that chunk on the Dali bow. There are a couple of large blocks inside the pyramid, but nothing of that dimension. That cut off piece on the barge is comparable in size to a very large block in the pyramid.
Thank you Captain for sharing with us.
awesome as always, thank you!
I can only remember the Bay Bridge Tunnel as lying between the Port of Baltimore and Hampton Roads. It was designed to accommodate deep draft ships. My guess is that they don't want to tie up the container cranes at the Port of Baltimore, where it won't interfere with commercial shipping. Another great video of what's happening, Captain.

I'm not quite sure what you're talking about Captain , Baltimore and Hampton Roads at least 170 miles by water and 235 by land ?
It had been noted in the Washington Post that they planned to keep the undamaged containers on the ship until Norfolk. Reason given was needed the weight in order to safely transit beneath the Bay bridge.

Good morning🌻
They are likely extremely lucky that that concrete tressle had 40 feet of container crumple zone to cushion the impact. That likely saved the ship from sinking if that concrete had just slammed in to the deck.
Fantastic coverage Andy. Great to see Baltimore getting back to business. Great progress. Again well done to all who are working so hard.

"Seems to me" that it behooves all concerned to take "many" intact containers off the ship. Baltimore is still a container port which means that the containers can be shipping via land to other East Coast container ports to go on their merry way. Others can be stored waiting for another container ship to be loaded in Baltimore. As stated, it's definitely logistics and economics but nothing is gained by storing the cargo on this ship.
I don't know what it is but the Patricia Jean is my favorite tug. She may not be the prettiest but she's my favorite ❤ I go on the Marine Tracking just to look for her and for Dale Pyatt. Thank you Cap'n!!
On a boat it seems possible to have Rock And Roll.
I tried counting damaged containers also. I gave up too. 😊😊
Wonderful footage and editing as always. Thank you Captain Andy for all you do. That drone takes amazing video. Awesome to hear that the Port is back in business. Blessings.Sherry 🥰 🙏 💞 🚢
hi Captain, thanx for your Video Updates. Read, Dali will sail on its own with tug assist to Norfolk Va. early next week. Apparently, Pylon cement/concrete will ride there on her. Dali Clean up Progress here in Baltimore is very slow at this point. U may plan to do same in Norfolk.
Hi Captain Andy. Thanks for the videos. I have a question....Why didn't they take the Dali to Sparrows Point so Chessie could easily remove stuff? If they are not removing containers, why do they need to be situated where they are? I know Chessie can't pass the power lines so bring the ship to Chessie. Libby, Bendigo, Victoria, Australia
I really enjoy these videos. Good to see progress, even if it takes a while for major parts to get moved.
I was wondering about that big piece in the middle there. They would obviously have to move all of the small and loose stuff around it before they can work on it. That would mean the crushed containers would have to be moved in order to work on that piece. I wonder if they will do that in Norfolk. Thank you again Captain Andy. Safe travels.
Tugs are absolutely amazing. Love their names. Thnx again Capt Andy, shame you live so far away…😢😢
Great pictures Captain Andy! Wondering if the ship is under any impoundment order or legal action that would prevent its movement or even unloading?
Nice ty
Do you think that the containers are being held hostage until the state gets its information from the insurance company? Can lawsuits begin via the products inside of the containers not being downloaded for delivery? Can you imagine the lawsuits that must be building and occurring for the companies delivering goods inside of the containers as well as the people who have already paid for the goods to be shipped? It seems that eventually the work to remove the debris will be halted until the insurance carrier pays for the work which has already occurred.
@GilmerJohn

That's quite possible. Otherwise, it behooves everyone to get the containers where they are most valuable which should be their original destinations.
There seem to be vertical black lines along the face of the concrete pillar. Perhaps these are where they plan to cut it into movable pieces?
Thank you for the update. As for the containers stacked onboard, the cargo must have been insured by the shipping company! Possibly the insurers have yet to inspect the containers and assess the damage to their contents! This is a serious accident and is turning out to be very expensive for the shipping company as well as Maserk and Baltimore Port!

All the more reason to unload the containers and move them to where they can be inspected by all interested parties at leisure.
Is there any news on the Dali crew?
All of the containers were bound out of Baltimore. There`s no way the Dali can go under the bay bridge without the weight. Bad for Maersk shipping costumers, but its force majeure!

It means that the owners of the containers are liable for the cost of the damage, so when they are expecting delivery they may get a big bill
Could it be that if the bow ballast is now empty the DALI with the concrete is sea worthy ?
I’m surprised they’re not removing the rest of the containers for transfer to other ships to ship out. They are months behind their original shipping date. Does anyone have an answer to this?
My question all along has been, what’s in those containers !! Why has no one mentioned the manifest yet ?
As for the containers: What about the refrigerated ones with perishables?
Weeks 533 deck is neat, organized and safe.
Good morning Captain Andy. Tennessee here.
..thanx for the video footage -Dali has been in dock for about 1 month now, n I see slow progress in removing bridge debris off of it. Best, is to bring in a crew from the ship scrap yards in India, n they will break cement with chisel n hammer in NO time. All these heavy duty equipment there r mostly idle.
The ship was outbound with that cargo, so why would they unload it there?
You guys totally ROCK!! Been watching since the morning the bridge fell, every day. So much information I would have never known. Thank you so much!! .....Seattle
It's interesting
thank you Captain
Thanks for the update as always. Is it your understanding that the concrete has to be removed before they can move the Dali to unload the containers?
Tremendous
The scale of this work is hard to appreciate until you point it out. Are the fans on the deck in front of the stack of containers to provide some cooling from the heat or to dispel cutting torch gases? The drone footage is amazing. Thank you!
Another great Video
The contents of the containers on board may be sold to a company that handles salvage. Insurance should have the process ongoing
It looks like the work of removing debris from the Dali has been suspended.

The weight of the contaIners has to stay on to keep the ship sitting lower for clearance during its next move. I believe Norfolk is the next destination. This was addressed in another video.

Thank you again for continuing your reporting. Wasn’t the ship headed to Sri Lanka? I recall hearing Baltimore was their last port, meaning unloading containers & storing them would be a logistical headache. Maybe you have already answered the following: How many ports had the Dali been to? Were any of the containers carrying perishables? How far in advance are ships booked into a port? I believe it is still extremely dangerous removing debris on the bow, because sure they could just remove everything fast, but wouldn’t they have to determine once they take away a piece how that affects the balance of the ship, and it might even shift the crumpled containers still on the bow?
Careful, Land the eye in the sky safely.
...as i see... it would appear there are three container "bays",affected,as it were. The two foremost bays took most of the impact, the third bay farthest from the bow...has had all its containers removed.
Thanks for your coverage!
I still have no idea how clean deck of Dali is today 🤷🏼♂️
My guess is that the insurance companies have settled the claim and now own whatever is left once the concrete is removed. I believe there is a complete inventory of all of the containers and what was in them.
Id bet there is some refrigerated cargo that will have to be disposed of.
Thank you nice video
Lots of people coming and going, but not much else going on. The Dali is coming up as the bow bulb is clearly visible now.
More excellent footage. The information you are giving out is fantastic. Thank you.

My pleasure!
Can’t see a lot happening TBH ! What EXACTLY is being done ??
great job, Capn !!!
I'd hate to be the worker who has to open containers containing perishables.
I wonder if they might call CDI back in to drill that concrete and set off some charges that would fracture it into smaller pieces for Weeks to lift off. If it didnt hurt the ship, it seems it would be faster than cutting or jack hammering the entire chunk!
Why arent they remove the containers??????
Thank you for your updated videos you shared
The pace them guys are working it will be at least a year before they get that ship cleaned up
Thanks Captain Andy ❤

You are so welcome
do you think they will scuttle (i think thats the right word?) the ship due to the damage?
Do you think they will try to remove that 'left leg' all in one piece (cut away from the cross piece)?
Any estimate of the weight of the remaining bridge structure concrete on the Dali?
With this video and expository only realized size of support structure still on bow. Think time to get busy with jack hammers?
Hello all, I have a cargo in the Dali , any idea how or when they will offload it ?
Would there have been food on that ship?
any reason as to why ,there is no crane quay side ,could/would be taking off smaller parts of debris
Capt Andy I got a question you may or may not be able to answer. Is the Dali leaving with part of the bridge pier and mangled containers still on board? I would have thought they would have used chessy to off load the larger pieces.
@MinorcanMullet

Great narrative Cpt. Andy. Probably several thousand tons of concrete. Your drone work is top notch.
Since this is taking so long, why doesn't the company responsible for the Dali send another ship to take all the containers and get them on their way?
. 🗝️ Key Bridge 🔑
Why are tugs in Europe a different design from the ones in the US, i.e. the US tugs have a tall mast with, what looks like, an observation cabin up it?
Did I miss it-- they havnt moved it in this video yet-- maybe tomorrow ???
I’m surprised they haven’t been removing the undamaged containers to get them on their way to their destinations.
Captain, will they repair the Dali or scrap her?
❤thanks Captain Andy
Will they ever unload the undamaged containers, most of which were supposed to arrive in Sri Lanka a couple of months ago? If I was one of the companies shipping goods from Baltimore whose shipment is being held hostage on the MV Dali I would be extremely upset.
Are they going to repair the ship before it leaves Baltimore?
I am really surprised that the entire rest of the ship, aft of the damage on the bow, was not unloaded at the outset. Those containers must represent considerable value and lost revenue for all of the rightful owners whose property was trapped onboard by the incident. Think of all the unfilled orders and unfulfilled contracts. That should have been job one. We’re 3 months into this and clearing the debris could take another 3 months. And fixing the Dali could take years.
