MASSEY FERGUSON 35, 3 CYLINDER DIESEL- FUEL ISSUE.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

During a previous series of videos, I changed the fuel filters and bled the system of my MF 35 3 Cylinder Perkins Diesel. After that, the tractor would not run for more than about 5 minutes before stalling. In this video I attempt to explain and show the remedy for the fault, in my particular situation. Enjoy.

Hi John , the small o ring you mention , yes correct place, sometimes they use a copper washer. The o ring type you will see a taper that the o rings goes into. The copper type is flat on the top. If no new copper washer comes with the kit, no problem just anneal it. ONE THING TO WATCH OUT FOR SOME TIMES, the big o rings are different size, big one up small one down, you can put the small one up IT WILL FIT, but it twists , will not leak fuel but will suck air. Hold mirror underneath you can then check not twisted. Do you have hand operated lift pump on this Massey, if yes quite often you will find a fine strainer under the cover, one bolt holds the cover down . If you do have the hand prime lift pump and it does not seem to pump, flick the engine over , as the cam on the lift pump may be in the up position, this will stop you being able to hand prime. Cheers. Alex.

John, Thanks for your series. I have a 1964 35X which I bought 30 years ago for slashing and dragging dead trees. I just had a mechanic service the injector pump (great job by him btw) because I am not a diesel mechanic, but after cleaning the built up crud off the dirty block for him I noticed that I have a small diesel weep on top of the head beside/behind the injectors. Does this means I need to put new seals up there, do you know? Or do I just button up the bolts a bit? Appreciate your thoughts youngster.

Hello Andrew, thanks for your comment. In answer to your question, I can't be sure however, I personally would check the bolts for tightness, as you said. Speaking of which, I am about to possibly pull the engine cover off of my Fergy Motor, as there is a bit of a problem. I've been filming this issue for months now but will not upload anything until the problem is rectified. So stay tuned mate, you never know, my next lot of videos MIGHT help you with your question. Take care.

@@johnp1388 Thanks John. It seems that it's not diesel but an old rocker cover gasket leaking oil. $7.00 and many hours for me to fix a simple problem. The old girl is starting to show her age and i might put on new rubber boots next as well. The 35's are bloody wonderful machines. I replaced all the grease nipples because half had dodgy springs under the balls.

I had a problem with air in the diesel system on my Fordson super Major. it was the filter in the tank that was clogged. so the pump sucked air in.

Thanks Magnus. Yes, there are many ways in that our fuel systems can be troublesome, if maintenance is not carefully completed.

This might be the problem with my MF 231. It’s either this or the fuel lift pump causing it to suck air and die. I have a new lift pump on the way, but I need to check that screen inside the tank. Thanks!

Hi! So it was a small air leak in the broken O-ring at the top of the secondary fuel filter...did I catch you right? I changed all my filters yesterday and I dont have a o-ring on the top att that filter att all, just a copper washer? It seam to work in my case. I noticed that small o-ring in the filter kit but I dident figured out where it shold be so I skipped it.. (MF 35 1964 3-cyl). Regards from Sweden! By the way..do you know if there is a filter before the fuel valve in the fuel tank?

Hello and thanks for your comment. I cannot be 100 percent sure if the problem was that small o-ring. What I do know is that when I replaced it AND tightened up a bleed point screw on injection pump - the problem went away. Regarding a filter before the fuel tank - I do not know. Thank you for watching from Sweden and enjoy your classic MF 35. A VERY GOOD solid machine 👍

I have exactly the same model/year doing regular work in South Africa. I recently installed a new front timing cover (due to corrosion at the water pump causing oil and water to mix) and then went over the entire fuel system because of stalling after about twenty minutes' running. There was a LOT of crap in the fuel tank including a tiny fuel filter that had been attached to the fuel tank tap/valve but it had come loose and was rattling around inside the fuel tank. Though I don't know whether it was an original part or had been added by a previous owner.

@@stephenpain9236 Hi! Thank you for telling me that. I will clean that filter a.s.a. p because it must have accumulated some dirt over the years.
