Massey Ferguson 2850E Review. The Good, the Bad & the Ugly!
Tim goes over a review of some of the features of our Massey Ferguson 2850E. Some of the strong points and then some of the not so strong points!
Overall we have been extremely happy with our tractor. We are actually so happy with the 2850 that we just bought a Massey Ferguson 1710 with backhoe to add to the fleet!
Thank you for watching our videos. We are not supported or sponsored by any equipment that we have reviewed for the tractor.

    Good Video here. I have this same tractor. But mine is a gear and not hydro. I am in Florida and we lose power here too often. I have a 18KW generator on the PTO. I can run about 6 1/2 hours with a full tank. I also have several 3 point tools, like a 30 inch dia hole auger and a 24 inch. This tractor does it with ease. I just wish I had gotten the third function on mine.

    We are too rocky for the post hole digger to be get useful. The generator is a nice option for sure, I’ve looked at them

    I wish I was able to factory order with the 3rd function in the joystick. But overall what we did with running the hydraulic hoses from the back worked OK

    AT 16:00 I had the same problem with it. I did get it covered under warranty and fixed it myself. I have no idea how it got broken, I was moving about 4 yards of sand when it broke. My cylinders are also bent a little. I have to call the dealer about it.I hope it is covered because I only have 38 hours on it.

    So I figure it must have been a bad batch of pistons. It happens across the manufacturers with various brands and parts. Thanks for the comment. We have been very happy with our dealer support

    My grille guard has exactly the same bend for exactly the same reason. It's hard to avoid pushing into the tires on the log trailer once in a while when you're chasing those last couple logs to unload. It's easy enough to to take off and straighten back out in a shop press. One of these days I'll do that, and maybe look at adding some gussets. The loader valve pivot plate is a design problem. Mine broke in the same place, for apparently no reason at all. Just went out one morning, started the tractor, went to curl the bucket, and just like that my loader stick went all floppy. The new pivot plate has a much thicker boss where the fixed pin goes through. To be honest, everything about that loader valve has been a pain in the arse. It's made by a Spanish company, Roquet. Not a fan. Next time it gives me problems, it's getting replaced with a Prince valve. Other than that, we're also pretty happy with our 2850e. Thanks for the video!

    Thank you for the comment. I bent mine back by just hooking a chain from that to the loader and bumping it out a pile at a time. We have 470 hrs on the machine now and love it. Please subscribe if you have not.

    How did you repair the grill guard on the 2850E , I have the same problem 0n mu 2022

    I hooked a come along (chain binders also work) from the top of the grill guard (in the corners) and then to something stationary and slowly tightened the chains until it pulled it back to the original position. If this was made from angle stock instead of flat stock it wouldn't be a problem. But for now the simple fix of pulling it forward with the binders worked well.

    A most critical aspect, what is the loader lifting capacity?

  • @ElmendorfAcres

    @ElmendorfAcres

    So I can lift a fully stacked IBC tote filled with Green Oak, I can also lift an IBC tote with 250 gallons of water. I'm not sure of the actual lift capacity, but a 275 IBC filled is just a touch too much. Hopefully that's a helpful amount of info?

    @@ElmendorfAcres Also in the market for a new tractor, at my age 3/4 of a century, it will my last so lifting capacity and PTO HP are 2 critical elements, however, like PTO chippers the market place is full of them and my only go to place to sort it out is KZread in an attempt not to destroy my retirement savings.

    @@inspectr1949 I can understand the savings aspect for sure. I would say to check on all the major brands, Kubota, Kioti, Deere, Massey, etc. See who has a good warranty, price point for what you want, and then finally check on the dealers. Visit them, see who treats you well and who seems like they will be in business for the next 20 years. The biggest two reasons we went with Massey was dealer location and how we were treated when we walked into the dealership. I feel like tractors are a lot like truck brands, guys either love or hate brands with a passion. There are good ones and bad ones for sure, but the dealer support is really what makes the brand stand out from the other brands. I'd be interested in what you finally decide on.
