"Don't know if he wants a new barn from insurance" that's priceless. My Dad got an 1130 cheap from a farmer like that who thought the engine was bad. Turns out he hadn't bothered to ever change the fuel filters and couldn't figure out why the tractor was so low on power. It amazes me the number of farmers who don't do their own simple maintenance, I sure as hell know we always did. Maybe that's why the banks like the other guys more.

I grew up on a beef cattle farm in S Ky (260 acres) we square baled hay, raised corn & tobacco along with 80 to 100 head of cattle. We had a 1974 Massey-Ferguson 175 that we used for everything and I swear I NEVER recall anything ever going wrong with it except it had a dead short and would run the battery down, which we just took the battery cable off when we parked it. AWESOME tractor !! LOVE YOU VIDEOS!!

Love all Massey tractor from old to new, we had 2 X 274,s on the farm and they never gave any problems at all, we have only ever had to replaced oil, filters, tyres and batteries and as you mention no computer so less hassle, but will admit to never having let an an oil bath filter get that bad 😂😂 Love your video’s especially the tractors

Watch your channel alot yes i subscribed. You did something unheard of anymore you fixed the wiring ,which people hate and wont do. But you did it because it was the right thing to do. Happy New Year Deboss.

Another good thing to have mate is a set of splitting rails is you doing tractor splits. Keeps everything safe and in alignment. I have a come along that I use to pull halves together on the rails. Simple and quick join up and can be done single manned. Great video by the way

Reminds me of hanging out in my grandfathers shop when he would have to work on or even split his Farmall 650.

A neighbor of mine growing up had one of these that was branded IMT which was a Yugoslavian brand. 95% of the tractor was still Massey. But some parts were specific to IMT. Always an interesting machine.

Those Perkins 4.236 engines (and their relative the 6.354) were heavy but reliable engines . I do remember a run of bad oil pump / balancer carrier assemblies that cracked on some Toro mowers though . They also marinized those and they made great sailboat auxiliary engines . They were in a lot of stuff as I found out wrenching for a Perkins dealer .

re: adding grease to bearings: It's OK, just don't overfill a bearing with grease when it is near the clutch. As the bearing heats up and grease expands, it squeezes a little bit out and it could mess up the clutch. If it's in the open, grease away! :) Love your vids, keep up the good work!

Had the same problem on my dads old 265. It tended to get stuck when trying to shift uphill at crawl speeds. Easily pulling the tractor forward either by tow or if possible by handing the rear wheel, to release tension while easy pulling the shifter to free released it

Grew up with an Old 135, Grandpa still has it.

I don't know much about Masseys since they are super popular in my area, but that seems like a pretty simple machine.

i do the same with all my bearings. best place to begin is every pre winter season i do all the wheels on my snowmobile track.

With the other masseys I'm familiar with the shifting rail has couple ball bearings like sliders and plate with an edge that breaks off which causes it to stick I've removed and repaired them in the past oh I learned to drive on our farm in the late 60s

We had a 1959 diesel MF and it would jam gears. Use a large screwdriver and pry back thru the inspection hold on top. Almost a daily experience.

Have an IHC 884 I am working on, I watch these guys trouble shooting the modern tractors with all their computers and wires and glad I don't have to deal with them. Now if I could just get through all the kludge fixes done by the Government "Mechanics"

The drive disk is the one against the flywheel.

Excess grease packing can cause over heating in heavy running bearings.

the good old Perkins one of the best if not the best little diesel motors ever built No doubt I have just offended all the Cummins people but these little Perkins and there bigger brothers the 6-354 are the best of the best During the 70's they were put in everything from LandCruisers, F100 style utes to interstate semi trailers to headers (combines you blokes call them) drill rigs the lot you name it it had a Perkins motor Very cheap to run and run forever I have mentioned them on here before but thought that they may have never made it to Canada but I never thought about Massey Ferguson I always roll the back away from the front as well, I find it much easier on my own even though any workshop manual I have read says to roll the front away, the bigger back wheels make it much easier to roll Rich I do wonder how many of the new electronic tractors will be around when they are 35 years old ??? As usual great video

Grew up farming 20 ish miles from where your shop is Rich. So I saw and used many.many Perkins powered MF tractors. The entire line from MF 35-65/135-180/230/299 was pretty much exclusivey Perkins 4 cyl. The 6 cyls were usually 90-140 ish HP tractors. So 3 generations spanning 40 odd years. Are you beginning to have trouble getting parts now for them? I should think so. I love these things. So simple mechanically, and poster children for reliability. Our 165,235,245 and 283 all had paper air filters. Thinking that one was optioned to oil bath filter.

I've seen some shite in the bottom of air bath air filters in my time but this takes the title.. Neglect springs to mind very quickly..

I have a Massey Ferguson 240 with Perkins diesel having trouble sealing the fittings that mount on the injector pump with the steel crush washers what tips do you have to mount them without them leaking

MF165 here, perkins has a slight knock (I think?). Are the perkins always have a slight tap/knock during idle. I can't remember and I've had the darn thing for 4 years!

Repack bearings if the grease used is compatible with the bearings original grease,incompatible greases react poorly to each other and can shorten the life of the bearing in question. 😉.

IS the same era ford tractors , same size machine give or take ,,, the same for clutch repair ? My buddy did a clutch but the peddle is too hard to push down . Great vid TY

in my part of Illinois we saw a few Massey-Harris 44 tractors but that was back in the 1950s I used to drive the 2 cylinder John Deere with a hand clutch (not the best idea)

I need your help. I have a Massey 275 and the clutch linkage spring come off so the clutch pedal is limp. Can you tell me how and where it hooks up to transmission?

I have an old MF 35 that the Forward and reverse is stuck and the Slow and High Lever is also stuck. What could cause the gears to not move? How much oil needs to be in the Gearbox and what kind of oil?

Mf is the best My father still has a 1996 mf 390 4x4.

They say too much grease in a bearing will make it overheat. Don’t know how true that is but I think you want about half the bearing full.

HELP!!! I inherited my dad's old Massey z134 and was able to get it started after sitting dead in the field for years. The good news is the engine sounds great & hydraulics work, but it won't engage into gear!! So there she sits. Could it be as simple as what you've just fixed in this video or do I need a new tranny?? (oh please let it be simple!!!) Thanks for any advise you (or anyone!) can lend!! 🙏

You shouldn't open a new sealed bearing and pack it full of grease. All you are going to do is increase rolling resistance and cause more heat in the bearing.

There are so many variables that affect bearing life. Rpm, temperature, loading in various directions, preload etc. Bearings are spec'd out for the application. In general, higher operating temperatures reduce life. Adding more grease increases rolling resistance which increases operating temperatures. I have seen so many equipment failures caused by overgreasing certain bearings.

All bearings should be greased if possible, they only put "assembly grease" in from the factory
