I'm at work in a quiet shop and watching this(i say quiet, whilst trying to watch it, went on a busy spot...)

Two-lane highways are part of the Mass Transit DLC. In true vanilla, the two-lane local roads work in a pinch, though the speed limits are lower. It's not really a problem when using them just around interchanges.

The lane management of the one roundabout wasn't the badest idea. I played around with nearly the same design and realized that it can be really helpful. Especially if most of the cars are leaving the roundabout on the next or second exit. In this case it helps in a similar way like lane mathematics on the highway. But it's important to watch if there is a driveway where many cars are taking the third exit or later. In this case it can make everything more worse, if you don't build them an additional slip lane for these exits.

Hi biffa i have a trick for you! If you have TM open and select the signs (give way and stuff) you can hold L Shift and click on a road. It Will do all give way stuff you are doing from one junction to another (on the road you click on) saves a lot of clicking and sipping tea!

You have some great skill Biffa, I can barely even get my normal (somewhat well designed) cities to stay above 70%, and here you are fixing cities from 15% all the way up to 80% and sometimes even more. You should do another city building series I think!

You can do the give away thingy on a whole road system to by pressing the same buttons as on the roundabout. Really handy, takes off so much time...

This city kinda reminds me of my very first city lol. All cramped and messy arrangement. Still, I don't think my traffic was that bad even though I played on vanilla lol.

LOL I love the comparison to NY! I live in NY and commute to NYC every day and I can confirm that going to Penn Station during rush hour looks exactly like 17:50! LOL I also try to always figure out if it would be possible to fix NY's traffic.

Also a NYC'er (outer boroughs). I once came through Penn Station returning home on Amtrak.. ...right at rush hour... ...with a heavy backpack _and_ two suitcases hitched together _double-trailer_ style. ...It's a minor miracle I didn't leave a trail of death and destruction between there and the Chick-Fil-A I made a side trip to before returning to the 7th Ave subway.

I have successfully fixed my traffic in a city I got to Megalopolis on my own because of your videos and trying to go step-by-step at what you look at first in your other videos. In short, if you don't want to read all of this, your videos have helped me a lot, thank you very much Biffa and keep up the great work 👍💖🙂 Also, I tried the Hold+Shift to set up give-ways, as you do on your roundabouts, on a road and it'll set them up to do so but you have to watch where it goes (it'll be highlighted blue) because it'll do it until the road ends even if you curve the road and if you have a roundabout connected to it it'll also change the give-way to priority off the roundabout and set a give-way on the roundabout... if that makes sense lol just something that might help you in the future. What I do in the following order is; 1) Check for more entrances from the highway into my city that I might be able to add to help spread the traffic in and out of the city and connect them with a roundabout so the traffic can keep going smoothly. 2) I do the lane mathematics but I like to make lanes go into 4 so there is an extra one to turn off and 3 to keep going but there are some that I do downgrade to 2 and up to 3. Most of the time when I add a 4 lane highway it's so I can add a Toll both to the end. 3) I go into the city after letting the game run for a bit to see if adding more entrances and exits will fix it, sometimes it does and makes the traffic easier to fix in some places and eliminates traffic blocks in others. 4) I add metros and Bus stops to eliminate cars on the road, I use metros for long distance and Buses for little areas that I make in a district to help me set them up easier without putting them on busy /main roads. 5) I then look at the traffic tab and visit all the red areas that might need some tweaking and try to add or eliminate intersections if possible and add in roundabouts to places that are really busy. I also find that when using Vanilla you have to use stop signs so that can be really challenging to fix but I manage to do so. 6) add slip-lanes to try and have the traffic avoid some areas and help them get to the highway easier without all going to the same area to get in and out. I like to use an oval-about as a highway and then a roundabout underneath it to keep traffic going on the main roads. (this step is kind of the same as the first step but I try to make this highway go through my city and have it stop in the middle with the oval about at a very busy intersection if I need to, I often try to avoid this though just so I can have more space to build with. I am still not very good at setting up trains, cargo, and ship hubs correctly because that is A LOT of traffic and it makes my head hurt, the same thing with blimps but I do try from time to time just to get practice and if I can't make it work I remove them and try again later, I find that it's easier to put your industry next to water and have the cargo train and ships just a little bit farther away and then have a metro near it but it all backfires after a while since I cram too much in one area so I might need to spread them out more lol

I love the occasional use of "have to rethink their life choices" in these videos. I can just imagine a truck driver: "Whoa, the road's gone and been replaced with a roundabout! What am I even doing here? How did it come to this? Where did it all go wrong?"

This was a crazy fix. I think the crammed city is an old habit from Sim City 2000... at least that's how I build my bad habit of cramming

I had never heard of this game before, but youtube recommendations bought me one of your videos last week. I have been binging your videos since then (first the traffic repair ones, then the whole playlist). One week later, and today I bought the game from steam and with all the knowledge from your videos, I plan to start my city soon.

2 days to fix this city, glad to hear you admit that, as watching a 30 minute video can be so misleading on the actual time spent fixing a city... Cargo train stations can only handle a set amount of truck traffic without causing huge back ups.. having multiple cargo stations that divide up the load for the industrial area will work wonders... but not like this city had. I have to wonder if all that lane management on the roundabout was the actual problem, that you discovered late in the fix, and deleted. Another suggestion, since you use traffic manager, is set the highway rules to be on... forces them to only switch one lane at a time on the highways, and you don't have to do all the lane management on the ramps. Lane mathematics is still needed to make it run smoothly though.

At 14:16 no Biffa, that's actually how you should always do that. You'll see that in many cities in real life nowadays as well, it helps traffic a lot. At 14:46 You could also use the 6-lane with outside buslane on it. Still ban cars and trucs from it and you'll need to fix all crossings, but still having busses like that on your main road is perfectly fine, actually highly recommended. You can see that in many counties as well.

I've seen so many people in Cities In Motion 2 when I created bus lane and pavement from bus stop to metro station. This bus lane was set to depart every 5 game minutes (the greatest frequencity available) but it wasn't enought - thousands of people were going on the pavement between the bus stop and the metro station whole time. It was very. very crazy...

You get a lot of benefit from just cutting off every second intersection in the areas where there's main roads with tons of intersections. I often pull them back just one tile so the sidewalks can connect (you may have to add a tiny strip).

One really annoying thing that happens in my city is the fact that tourists that want to leave the city have cars, and they need to park these cars near subway stations. But if you don’t provide enough spaces, they will block the road as they look for a parking space. Then once they left the city, they leave their cars and take up the space.

Your greatest challenge, Biffa, and you came through! 😆 Enjoy your tea! 😆

You cold even get les people on the road, when there would be some walkways like you every time saying, the round abounts are without somethink to cross for people on food, now they take the car or metro. In a small city, half of the people walk to the industry area even when its on the other site from a square.

Yeah, all those roundabouts should not be made of highways.

For those that are new to the game, please please PLEASE get the Traffic Manager mod and the Network Extensions 2 mod. Both are free in the stream shop. I've had traffic manager for a while, but I recently got the Network Extension 2 and its made a WORLD of difference.

So far, two things I miss in this game (even though I don't really play it, I just like watching it). 1 - Motorway exit/entry lanes like they actually are in the real world. At least in Europe - Asia is probably different yet again. 2 - Turbo-roundabouts. A recent development for sure, but not more recent than this game. A turbo-roundabout is basically a two-lane roundabout with restrictions on directions. Two roundabouts intertwined, sorta kinda. Maybe also enforced minimum speeds. This doesn't happen in Europe (I think) but it is a thing in Japan. And maybe also paid parking areas, and maybe disabled roadside parking by default. I think also roundabouts should be a separate entity in the game, whereas now it's just a road that happens to form a circle.

I can't remember who or what video it was but to get around the trucks stopping on main roads for deliveries they used say a six lane road where a 4 lane was used and then turned the outer lane off as a lane to turn at the end and that seemed to work for it as trucks could stop in the outer lanes and people could continue along without having to stop, it was tried for bus routes aswell and also reduced the amount of traffic the stopping bus would affect

I find that the lane management on roundabouts helps if cars are doing that weird ai lane switching thing, or if they are only using 2 lanes of a 3 lane roundabout. I sometimes set mine up as a spiral roundabout, so that once they are in the lane they want they stay in that "lane" (the lane doesnt stay the same, but as lane 1 exits, lane 2 becomes lane 1). I think the ai try do that anyway, but sometimes they screw it up and cause chaos lol

The excitement in knowing that you can fit in a roundabout is amazing.

Finally a fix worthy to watch. All other fixes are way too easy, i got bored with the serie just because there wasn't a challenge. And on the remark that the owner of the city has to spread out more: why do you say that? If he has done that, the city woudn't be a challenge. Woud have been as boring as the last few videos. So a big thank you to the person who send in this city!

On that 6 lane major road @14:50, where you are moving the bus stops off of, you could just upgrade the road to a 6 lane road with bus lanes. The buses could then stop with out holding up traffic. Alternatively if you need to take the buses off the main road, instead of making them go down 3 blocks in order to travel back up 3 blocks to rejoin the main road; Instead, place a one way bus road cutting back across, down 1 block, so the buses only have to travel one block down before exchanging passengers and rejoining the main road.

I love the big ones like this. Lots of tea.

4:36 Think you meant downgrade instead of download, but all forgiven, haha 12:50 That's a pretty nice roundabout that should work even better then the default stuff I have currently. Could you perhaps make a mod that adds this roundabout to the game? Perhaps a worthy thing to add a lot more junctions etc. that you would recommend using as a Biffa's road pack or something? I sure would love to have that! Makes things a lot easier! 17:13 Biffa's mass migration creator. That is just a insane number of people running around. That's one killer city, very nice fix on this one. That industry sure does need to go, it's way to close to the houses which will cause problems and complaints. But that's for the owner of this city to decide in the end.

A sweet fix for vehicles accessing buildings (such as trucks stopping for industries) is to use an extra lane (ie. 4lane -> 6lane) and then disable all turns for the outermost 'access' lane at the end of the road; through traffic will only use the middle lanes, but stopping vehicles will still be able to access their buildings, without stopping flow, and merge to the centre once they've stopped. You can also use this trick to manage bus stops, as the busses get a dedicated lane to stop in, and you don't have to faff with vehicle restrictions

BIFFA, the neat trick that you found out about for roundabout by holding shift is not a roundabout feature, it is a "main road" feature and can be use on any road, straight or round to set that whole road as a main road and every stop will be set that way. 16:02 Help me get Biffa to see this, like it say it yourself whatever .
