One important notice% you forgot to animate "control points", that's why after changing the shape of the mask it keeps final type of the shape and didn't change it during timeline. It could be seen when you scroll back by the clip. If you want to change mask during the clip (form of object is changing) - you have to also animate the control points ;)

First time I tried masking, all I used was the "elements" Shapes Generator. You weren't the first to show me the "Draw Mask" effects. It was nice to find. Stupid thing I learned after using it three times... You could use it more than once on a frame. Just have to be careful to mark the keyframes on the transform AND control points to make sure you have coherence over the section. The control points are not keyframable (at least so far as I have tried). The number of control points is the same across the segment. If you end up adding more during the process, you will have to go back and handle them in the previous frames.
this is really cool. I've been teaching myself video editing and I can already tell this is a skill that would take me multiple attempts in order to feel out what looks right. thanks for the tutorial

Most definitely. The other day a friend told me that he could do what I do for a living and I explained to him that editing is much more than just stringing clips together. It's about style, pacing, attention to detail, and an overall them that connects everything. I also made a masking tutorial check it out if you have the time. My channel is dedicated to making people who are serious a whole lot better than they are now by covering the basics and setting a strong foundation

Nice and informative video! I used your tips in my latest vid, thanks a lot :) I discovered an important thing though... When you tick to add keyframes under "Transforms", you are actually only moving the entire mask and the only thing changing, in this case, is its position, which is why some of the control points are not in their right place anymore in any frame except the last one. If you would tick the plus next to "Control Points" instead, the mask would transform more accurately after the same process is done. Hope this helps! Cheers

@@aleciacustodio2061 The control points keyframe allows you to adjust the individual control points, but if you turn on the keyframes for transforms it allows yout o move the entire mask as one entity.
@rafisaar
4 жыл бұрын
@@NickMak No it doesn't. The transform affects the image itself, not the mask. ABTV's comment is correct and I commented the same a while back. You can keyframe the top for all control points and proceed to move the points as shown in the video.

There should be two arrows near the title of your project (below the render window). Click the right button and it should return you to your original layer.
I think if include the backpack, u would have a better quality as the wall of the second clip is also black. Both can fit in very comfortably without the viewer notice major edges like the shirt did.

Great explanation man! Just curious why you masked his book bag (drawing mask inside vs outside his bag) creating a weird cutout shape on the body? Wouldn’t it look smoother if you started drawing mask on outside contour of bag to transition to next clip? Maybe it’s an aesthetic choice or is that better starting point for smooth transition?
@editorskeys
4 жыл бұрын
Hi, i see your point, we tried it both ways and for us it felt like this way looked the best in our opinion, however the other way as well looked completely smooth to, it was easy to show this way as an example as its more of a straight line to follow. I hope the video video helped you! Thank you.

I think the reason you had to readjust the control points at the start of the transition and that they weren’t moving was because you didn’t click a key frame for control points at the start, only transform.

At 8:31, how do you get the storyline to go on the bottom row so that the original masked clip is above? Every time I try to add a new clip after the mask, it always deletes it and just plays the next clip...
Whenever I move the key frames, do I have too re click the ''Transforms'' buttons each time after I make a slight change to make the animation work? or does it record the mask automatically?
