Midland Pictures oh man - glad to hear it - strategywise are you planning to release a couple more like this to see if you can ride the momentum? Maybe one for beginners, one for advanced, and one that is like your biggest mistakes and how you fixed them? I know you’ve sort of already done some of those videos, but might be a good idea to remake/add to them and release them to really ride the momentum of this vid 👏🏼👏🏼

Completely agree. Maybe Apple kept it off by default so KZreadrs like me could discover it, realize how awesome it is, and then make a video that includes how to do it (and other tips) so that the video could go "viral" and feel like magic for everyone who didn't know about it??? 🤣😝 Glad it's going to be a big help for you! It certainly has been for me!

The double-tap with two fingers is Shift+Z for anyone without a trackpad. Also, you'll love this; in the timeline press Z to change to the Zoom tool then click and drag over any selection of clips and the timeline area will zoom to fit for those specific clips only, works 2 clips, a 100 etc. So helpful.

Very nice. One trick you missed is the related trick to Option-R to replace a selection on the timeline with a selection in the Browser but keeping the timeline clip duration. What if you want the browser selection range instead? The companion to that is Shift-R where the length of the chosen clip in the Browser takes precedence. Opt-R for timeline timing and Shift-R for browser selection timing. Another thing you can use with this and many other clip replacements is knowing how to keep the effects you've built up on the timeline selection. Once you've made the timeline selection, do a Copy (CMD-C) then, after you replaced the clip with a fresh version of itself from the Browser, do a Option-Command-V to paste back any effects the original selection had. The only thing the Option-Command-V will not restore is any audio changes. For example, I'll often change a Stereo track to Dual Mono. Once a replacement clip is on the timeline, fix the audio arrangement then Option-Command-V so that any audio effects are applied correctly. I often use that CMD-C / Option-CMD-V sequence to keep effects when replacing a clip by any means. Sure, you can use Shift-Command-V to choose which effects you apply back to the clip, but when you know you want everything, the one keystroke is Opt-Cmd-V. Once more trick before I go; Want to blade a section quickly? Hold R (for Range) and drag select on the Timeline. Then, CMD-X, CMD-V. What this does is remove the selection but then you put it right back except that the selection is now bladed at each end.

Great video, Matthew! I’m originally from Omaha & glad to know of another production facility there. (I’ve done some work with Great Plains in the past) Since I use the Blade and Bracket editing trick A LOT, I went into preferences and changed those 3 in particular to remove the modifier (Option) to make it even faster. so now I just hit b, [ or ], and my cutting is super fast. Thanks for the tips!
