Excellent tutorial ... I'm trying this out now on a really tough tree line of southern pines. It's possible, but not easy w/ so much blending to do, either smudging in the burn/multiply layer or multiple progressive layers in the transition between tree & sky. Anyway you're teaching method is really really good!

When I create the new layer, call it sky, it just puts a pure white layer mask over the entire image. I can't seem to force it over just the houndstooth portion of my mask.

could i put a pic of a sky under the pic instead of making my own sky

Yes you can use any sky you like I would make certain the sky layer is beneath the regular layer. In the layers box.

Oh I see in the commentary you have missed a step. at 6:01 after doing control V you have to click on the anchor layer button.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'developing' a digital photograph. Could you explain that a bit more, Thans
