    I'm Japanese. And I'm grad to have foreiners play. 0:32 This situation, △75P, It made me suprised ! Japanese call this style "Haya Ishida" . This formation is so strong! … But, this case is a little risky. Because when Left ▲85P, Right should △77B or △78G or S. Next, if Right △77B, there is a blank in forward to the Bishop. It will be big disadvantages. If Right △78G or S, Right can't △78R. So Right can't make good use of 75P.

    Can someone explain me what happened at 47:30, why did she ran out of time and they reset to 15 mins each? Also he left his clock run during her turn at 12:55 , 17:52 and 40:35 , wasting up to 10 mins and giving all that extra time to her which triggered me, are they just ignoring the clock or what's happening?

  • @nm7sp

    @nm7sp

    Жыл бұрын

    According to the 2018 Ukraine Cup website, the games are 30 minutes followed by 1 minute per move byo-yomi. I believe that this clock (PQ9902C or PQ9902) has byo-yomi capability but it seems that the byo-yomi time was not set up and that only the 30 minutes was. It may be that when Anna's clock ran out, the clock no longer knew how much time Sergiy had left and so maybe the TD just "made up" something that he thought was fair and gave them both 15 minutes. I did seem that Sergiy may not have used a chess clock before for Shogi play and even Anna did not seem to pay much attention to it.

  • @nm7sp

    @nm7sp

    Жыл бұрын

    On further investigation it appears that the clock was set up correctly for 30 minutes + 1 Byo Yomi period (of 1 minute). Looking at other games from this tournament and reading the manual from the PQ9902 it seems that this clock always uses 1 minute Byo-Yomi periods. The little "01" in the top corner indicates the number of 1 minute periods, in our case , "01". Standard go/shogi byo-yomi timing starts the byo-yomi periods at the end of the main time (in our case 30 minutes) but this clock starts it during the last part of the main time. So in our case the (one) byo-yomi period starts one minute before the end of main time. Therefore at 46.35 in the video Anna's one, one-minute byo-yomi period starts and since she fails to make a move during this period she loses on time at video-time of 47.35. At this time we can hear the clock do it's 10 second alarm to indicate loss on time, but when Anna moves and presses the clock, the clock resets to default starting time (4 hours main time and 5 byo-yomi periods of one minute each) and the indication that she lost on time is erased.

Even though I made this comment a year ago and you would be unsure if I would read it I thank you kind person for taking your time and for the clarification in detail because I did in fact read it! So according to your explanation she should've lost to the clock right, but they kind of just reset the clock because they weren't sure what happened when they saw the new default timer? @Larbitos O_o But why should they be in Kanji when they could just as easily be symbols everyone can recognize? And why not simply make the pieces white and black so it's easier to tell what's going on? I get that traditional Shogi boards are meant to look like this, but wouldn't you rather have the game be accessible to more people?

  • @psychoticmortacarn

    @HandGrenades 4Balls That's fair. In my defense, a workaround could be to make the pieces black/white on either side and have a separate pool of pieces for promotions. But I still see no reason the kanji can't be changed to symbols. Granted, I did get used to the Kanji after a couple days, but I still find myself making a stupid blunder every so often because I lost track of which piece was which, or taking an embarrassingly long amount of time to decipher what's happening in particularly crowded puzzle.

    At the 27 minute mark, I was just begging for a knight drop on 6-7 to fork the bishop and silver and also being one move away from being checkmate so it has to be defended... 36 minute mark: DROP THE GOLD ON 8-7!!!!... Minute 41, just kill the dragon with a pawn drop?? It can't move, bc it's pinned. And they played 2 of these moves after they weren't good anymore xD Ahhhh... AHHHH, it gets better, a game thrown in 53 minute mark with the gold drop on 8-8 instead of 9-6 after creating the wall for the king instead of attacking... Next move if gold to 8-7, it would've been a disaster for black, but the horse capturing 8-8 wasn't that bad either. Minute 55 illegal move??? Ok, they realized lol.. I'm not a pro and this was fun to think for a bit, but some of these moves were just bad, sorry..

    This is an extremely interesting question. I can not find any official rules for Playing Shogi with a digital Chess clock so I will pretend that they would use the FIDE chess rules. This matter ( a player forgets to press their clock and the opponent makes their next move) is not actually covered by the FIDE rules but there has been a LOT of discussion about this and I believe that what the concensus of opinion is.... A player may not "make" (I.E complete their move) before their opponent has made (I.E completed) their previous move. To do so would be an illegal move. A player completes their move when they stop their clock and start the opponents clock. Thus you can "start" your move before the opponent has completed theirs, that is, you could move a piece and even remove your hand from it, but you may not punch your clock before the opponent has punched theirs to complete their last move. By this interpretation, Anna made four illegal moves and Sergiy made one.
