Nah he fits kiryu cinematically, Kiryu could have changed the yakuza ways preventing bad events and bad cases like that from happening like ebina. Gaiden was kiryu ending the tojo Clan entirely, while infinite wealth is him facing the consequences of the yakuza and taking it head on, handling the yakuza past which represents ebina as Kiryu told Ichiban that he will handle Yakuza past, while ichiban handles the future which is saving the Yakuza on the island and aiding them for a better life. Also the brothers with opposing ideologies have been done to death and Ichiban prefers his chosen family over his blood one, that's why he looks at his father as boss rather than father and his mother as the woman his boss loved
