Masahiro Sekita | The Most Intelligent Setter in Volleyball History !!! Masahiro Sekita (関田 誠大, Sekita Masahiro, born 20 November 1993) is a Japanese male professional volleyball player from Tokyo.[1] He currently plays in V.League Division 1 for JTEKT Stings and Japan men's national volleyball team. He used to be the captain of Japan U-21 national team in 2012 Asian Junior Men's Volleyball Championship[2] and 2013 FIVB Volleyball Men's U21 World Championship.
Masahiro was the captain of Japan U-21 national team, since 2012 to 2013. Then, he had registered for Japan senior national team for the first time in 2016. In 2021, Masahiro was one of the setters in Japanese roster, which played in 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Japanese team advanced to the quarterfinals round in 29 years[4][5] and at the end, he ranked the 7th place in the best setters category.[6]
He transferred to Polish league, PlusLiga, playing for Cuprum Lubin in the 2021-22 season.[7] Then he was back to play in the domestic league for JTEKT Stings.

I feel bad for him that just becuz he's not that tall n not seen as all-rounder (just becuz he's the hole in the block) , people simply does not recognise him. I mean it's an award for "Best Setter" , so why can't just award the setting skill n not the overall skill. I agree with u, I hope someday they give him the Best Setter Award 🏆

@@ari_edyou just said what I wanted to say but can't put to words when I saw Brizard won the award. I mean Brizard ball control is really good too, but there's just something in Sekita's set when he does it like the ball is really dead when he touch it.

@@RimuruTempest-pz4kr Brizard got the award this year n Micah got the award last year for vnl were deserving for them. But we talk abt other instances where it was Sekita that is more deserving to win that award. Like last's year AVC for example. But they give it to someone else.

I would say he is probably one of the most intelligent setters ever in men's volleyball together with Zaitsev of the Soviet Union and a Brazilian setter (the one before the current one). Bravo!

@@eekee3 No! They have taller an stronger outsize hitters. In terms of intelligence, Sekita is a way smarter than these South American (e.g., Bruno) or South European (e.g., Gianneli), and Middle eastern (Marouf) untermenschen. Probably, Christenson and Pankov are in the same league with Sekita in terms of natural intelligence and ability because they belong to smarter races like Christian whites of the Northern Europe.

@@eekee3they r great. Not gonna lie. But U also forget that they have "NATURALLY" gifted, taller n stronger spikers. Of cuz U can argue that Sekita have Nishida n Ishikawa, but if u compare the overall Japanese team who r shorter average height n defensive strategies, it is Sekita accuracy that enables them to attack aggressively in fast tempo. All team in the world can be aggressive but Japan are aggressive becuz Sekita's precise set n intelligence. All team in the world can be fast but not as fast as Japan players but Sekita is there with his accurate set to make sure that his team did not missed. So now we can argue that most setters mentioned bring out the best in their tall n strong (in terms of strength) spikers but Sekita bring out the best in his shorter, strength-wise less stronger but very very very fast spikers n MB.

@@ari_ed Bro, I can't agree with you More. The Japanese team is doing well, and the main reason is probably Sekita-shensho! Of course, one can argue that have Ishikawa and Nishida and Yamamoto. But without a very smart setter, they can not attack, do not they? In my view, Sekita is one of the all time bests together with Zaitsev, Grankin, Bruno and a few others.

Where does he get time to check the position of the opponents while he's setting.
I wouldnt say sekita is creative. He is very dependable but not creative. He rarely dump or attack but his setting is near perfect. Serving wise he is also amazing but to say he is creative? Nope
