I am pretty sure the grease is not 20 wt gold, but they put a metric fckton of slick kick grease in there PLUS some 20 wt gold, which then mixes with the grease. Had that in 2 38 air springs and a 36 air spring to varying extents. Also according to some the negative air chamber of the 38, which is a 'bit' difficult to access, is also full of grease sometimes ... Makes sense from a production aspect I guess. Just put lots, then it will automatically spread out, you won't run the risk of adding too little and all the normies never servicing their ewbs will have enough grease in there for 5 yrs of riding or so...

@@OtterMTBtech So far it's pretty awesome. As good or better than my last gen Fox 38 and I am actually using the high and low speed compression instead of running it full open like I did in the past. I also picked up a new Bomber air shock for $250 on Jenson because it was half off and tested in on my levo against my Push 11-6. I have to say, it's quite good. Especially for that price.

Hmm. Yeah suppose it doesn’t look like much, however having rode one for the last 18 months, it’s a night and day difference. Acts completely unlike a standard reduction token. Have to run way more pressure mind. I’m running 20% more on a Z1, 78psi with a token too, at 72kg for reference. Would recommend.. Bang for buck for sure

Great content! But pls invest in some basic tools. Star nut tool, tube cutter, file. The star nut was clearly tilted. Also, every fork needs a break in. You cant expect full performance on the first ride. Give it atleast 3 decent rides.

Motorrex makes Foxes oil. Hints why it’s good. I put Mototrex in Suntour and DVO 38 dampers and it was day and night better. Not sure if it fully compatible, but next service I do on a old Fox fork is getting the pink Mototrex, instead of the teflon fluid

@@OtterMTBtech Steve at vorsprung does a good video explaining it. Basically the traditional air springs build up too much pressure in the lower legs causing the ramp up. I imagine this issue only gets worse in big 38mm stanchion forks. The 38 sleeve style alleviates this somehow.

  • @OtterMTBtech

I watched that video a couple times to warp my head around it. Long travel makes it’s worse too. As I’m usually taken less on 180 forks, but dual crown forks don’t do this.

@@OtterMTBtech yes, 20wt doesn’t do that in my experience, neither has any oil. The air shaft pretty much always comes over greased and not enough fluid in the fork, so it’s nice to open it up and clean some of it off/ re distribute the slick honey and put in the recommended oil volumes.
