Exiles also need to keep in mind that there's an opportunity cost of simply using the amulet AT ALL. So while 310% external multi may be the crossover to where using Marylene's is a dps loss, the real comparison is not using Marylene's or not, it is using Marylene's or X other amulet. The point at which any other amulet could've given you more is much lower than 310.

Excellent point. I tried to articulate this at the end, but it’s difficult to capture it when the other options can vary so widely; like how do you weigh the value of something like a +2 amulet vs Omniscience vs Eternal Damnation. It’s tricky and there’s not necessarily a “correct” answer. The 310 number is more useful as a “never use over this” but it’s not as clear cut on the under side of the threshold.

I actually made a Lightning Tendrils build with Marylene’s fallacy this league. I used an item called Duskdawn which I believe was overlooked in this video. Duskdawn allows you to double dip by causing chance to block attack dmg to scale crit multi as well. It also gives bonuses for having crit recently and for not having crit recently. This allows you to scale dmg by simply scaling lightning tendrils base hit with arcane cloak and mana stacking, cast speed, and crit multi. Aoe problems are solved by the Heirophant ascendancy, so the rest of your gear can go towards defensive layers, strength, intelligence, and mana.

yep, there's a reason no one is using it short of extremely niche case of lightning tendrils alt qual (btw with unstable catalysted marylene's gets 288 crit multi / 48% less crit chance) no point mentioning plume, it's purely a meme at this point after heatshiver buff even in builds with very abundant crit - namely ice spear which has both super-high 7% basecrit AND 600% crit chance which on class like inquis or assassin is very realistic to critcap even with marylene's it's just not worth it / worse than than random 1-div rare amu with fitting stats and just not paying opportunity cost yeah there is at ton of ways to work around that less mod like doppleganger's guise / more melee crit chance timeless / lucky crit chance timeless, it's just never worth the opportunity cost. you also can't usually get a ton of critchance specifically on tree without getting critdamage too, so critdamage starts to run into diminishing returns quickly with marylene's making problem even worse it must be buffed to like 400+ crit multi to be worth considering in current meta

Quick thing to add, the amulet specifically having evasion rating present enables it to work with the evasion/energy shield mastery that grants increased energy shield recharge rate if your amulet has evasion. It's essentially the only unique amulet that has a useful effect that can be used with that mastery.

Excellent video! I especially love the graphs. I feel like proper visualization of numerical analyses is the one thing some other channels could improve on. There are a few more niche mechanics that could maybe get an honorable mention, but I understand not including them due to their current place in the meta. Stuff like: - Perfect Agony ignite/bleed - Destructive Link in party play - Ambush Having said that, the video has a nice length as it is and I guess there's always the option for a follow-up if the meta changes.

These videos are very high quality, arguably genius contributions. Please keep making them. There are a lot of mechanics that could use theoretical extrapolation. I always wonder about certain items/skills when buildcrafting and don't always find comprehensive analyses. E.g., the Enhance support gem shows a lot of potential but I don't know enough about the various alternate qualities and +gem level items to know what combs work best, but it stands to reason in the right circumstances, it could provide more benefit in a six link than a +% more multiplier gem like Concentrated Effect.

A good way to learn about what alt qualities are good is going to poe.ninja and looking at characters that are using Dialla’s Malefaction. (Filter out characters with 6-link void sphere, it’s a cheese build for TotA only)

I know when to use Marylene's, but I subbed because this is a really nerdy video, I love it.

Great video! Another point is belt focus crit lucky unveil is really strong for lucky crit with Marylene’s is really strong and less downside compared to Dance to the Death.

excellent video, i've used it before and had wasted a ton of "ineffective" crit multi in my build as i didn't know break points so just assumed more simply meant more and stacked away :)

Alt ailments like Brittle would have been a worthwhile mention here for mitigating the less crit. Often times having full brittle is already doubling your base crit, so "40% less" becomes less (not to be confused with decreased) impactful.

This amulet if mostly used early days of the league in group play, when a carry has this and them a support player has a Destructive Link with the Trypanon unique mace to grant 100% chance to crit.

My favourite combination is marylenes with an actum blitz berzerker! At a maximum of 30% crit chance at all times you can invest in defences while your damage is pretty much set!

Thanks for the video. Still struggle to wrap my head around it. Playing hexblast miner right now. Was using Marylenes and just recently got a +1/+1 skills amulet. With the rare amulet and 4 power charges up I am at 100 to crit and 313 to crit multi. From my understanding of your video, I am over the 310 multi break and so the +1/+1 skills amulet is better than the Marylenes. Did I get that right?

Does the 313 crit multi include your characters base 150 (a), or is that additional ON TOP of the base 150 (b)? If a, Marylenes would be competitive and you should check in path of building. If (b) you’re much better off with the +2 gem amulet Also depends if you’re JUST at 100% crit chance or are well overcapped without Marylenes.

@@Surgeon_General thanks for the answers. Not very good in POB but it seems marylenes is slightly better. But, considering I spent 30d for the new amulet I am obligated to use it! Marylenes seems only slightly better so with the added life and chaos resist I gain on the rare amulet I guess the trade off is fine. The damage difference is not noticeable to me in game.

There is another vool combo with this amy: plume of pursuit, winds of fate, spell echo. First cast deals no damage, second cast deals auto crit with a whole lot of multi

Love this ammy with plume of pursuit and divergent spell echo for cheap dps. Not super endgame but a great early mapping option 😊

There’s a unique called trypanon which has the unique line all attacks are critical strikes, this would be a cool combo to try make work

If you playing party, one of the support characters can equip trypanon. Then you can give destructive link that make target critical strike chance equal yours, so 100%. And then, you can equip marylene’s fallacy on carry without any drawback, just pure crit multi.

Not to be pedantic, but Trypanon makes crit chance 100%; that is still scaled down to 60% due to the Marylenes downside. It’s a little different than lightning tendrils / plume of pursuit which guarantee crit. That being said, it’s very easy to cap crit anyway when you have a base of 60!

Just a question if my crit chance is already over 200 is it good for me to stack like 550+ crit multi ?? , i didnt get the crossover

With that combination, you’d have a pretty easy time capping crit even with Marylenes; the uniques don’t have any other real synergies apart from crit so you can choose pretty much any hit based skill. Base your choice on other factors apart from crit, since that parts solved.

This was my first league and I actually ran marylenes with heatshiver and lightning tendrils. Great damage but my survivability was so lacking. And as a noob, I didn’t really know how to scale my survivability with this build so I gave up and turned to a more meta build. I wish more people used LT, I really wanted to make that build work lol

The big defensive problem with Lightning Tendrils is that it’s a channeling skill so it locks you in place when you use it. Moving out of the way is one of the strongest defensive layers in PoE! 😄

I use Actum Butcher Axe with Marylene’s Fallacy then get lucky crit from focus system along with other focus buffs.

You also lose out on a possibly skill Changing lab enchant with dance with death on the helmet.

You don't need any of these. Just for 1k+ crit multi (which is pretty easy to get with actum) and wait for that 1 crit hit to almost one shot anything.

I think there is a missed opportunity to consider doppleganger guise's up 60% more critical strike chance which should bring you up to ~96% effective crit chance.

If you play a build that gets ridiculous amounts of criti, it's easily best in slot over any amulet you can ever craft. Life stacking hexblast with the sandstorms visage helmet.

Unfortunate that the tincture ascendancy implies you need equipped helmet for the ele res
