Maryland’s Hidden Gem, Swallow Falls State Park Campground and Waterfall Hike

In this Episode:
Our 2023 camping season continues, with our first ever Maryland State Park adventure! This time, April 27, 2023, we are heading to the Swallow Falls State Park. Our campsite is number 35, which has NO HOOKUPS! You’ll need a generator to camp here, but you won’t be able to run it during quiet hours. The campground is very well built and maintained, probably one of the best we’ve seen. It is very quiet and secluded, which is our preference.
Our goal for this adventure is to explore the waterfalls and old growth forest at Swallow Falls State Park. This short hike is one of the best we’ve done. The trail immediately take you to Muddy Creek Falls, which is the tallest waterfall here. There are several other shorter, but wider, falls on the Youghiogheny River. The trail also features the last old growth forest in Maryland, which is a magical jungle of 300 year Hemlock trees.
This Maryland Adventure did not disappoint, Swallow Falls is truly a hidden gem, worth the time for all RVer’s and hikers to explore!
Friends, welcome to our RV Camping channel. Ryan and Rachel here, we are weekend warriors with a mission to highlight RVing in the eastern United States. We are joined by our daughter Sarah, son William, and our two dogs (Trigger and Lilly). Home is in Pennsylvania, and while PA is our favorite State to explore, we’ve found there’s much more to explore! Our 2019 Wildwood X-Lite is towed behind our 2021 RAM 2500 BigHorn. We hope you will subscribe, join us on some of our adventures and be inspired to go on your own adventures.

Looks like a great park. Beautiful waterfalls and sounds so fun that you can swim in the river in the summer.

I think it would be really cool to check it out, even this time of year would be warm enough.

Love the fact that you can walk right from your campsite down to these gorgeous spots. Looked like a really wild and beautiful scene down along the river. This is certainly a place I hope to get to eventually for sure. Another one on the "list" lol. Great video and I thik the rainfall and darker ambience actually accentuated the atmosphere of the place. I could certainly tell you guys really loved this place!

This place had everything we look for in an adventure. I give it 10 outa 10. Really, the weather didn’t hurt us at all. Just another example, to go even if the weather report is bad. You should definitely get to this area at some point, lots to see!

Another great Video. That park is a real gem for sure. The water falls are beautiful and I really liked the "free" hiking. Trails are nice, but getting down to the subject is great. Really enjoy the family memories. Our youngest turned 10 this weekend...every birthday was celebrated while camping. He was reminiscing through all the years. Your children will appreciate the videos for sure. Great Stuff

We’ve been doing camping trips for Sarah’s birthday, I think it’s a good tradition. William is a December baby so that’s harder. I do think they will enjoy looking back at these videos years from now.

It’s an awesome place! Be a long tow for you with the camper, but it is a nice campground. There’s always the cabin option, but I have no idea what they cost.

@@mountainsintomemories It isn't as bad as you would think. Less than 5 hours. We have always visited Swallow Falls when we go to Deep Creek but it's been a few years.

Loved the video. Thanks for sharing. Headed there in a few weeks and have never been there. Looks to be beautiful in any weather. I have a question if you don't mind answering. Would it be worthwhile to bring bikes with us? Are there any trails to ride or the size of the campground big enough? Or should we just stick to hiking? Thanks

I don’t know if any bike trails nearby, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any though. I wouldn’t bother taking bikes for the campground, it’s very small.
