Poor Mary suffered at the end. The executioner was drunk and it took 3 chops to sever her head. When he grabbed her hair to hold up her head, her wig came loose and her head fell to the floor. Then her little dog, who was hiding under her skirts, started crying.

Poor Mary Queen of Scotts. Elizabeth did not want 😮to have her beheaded, but her throne and England demanded it. Only one Queen could emerge from that fight alive,winner take all. Yes, it is Elizabeth who won, but it is Mary whose genes gave rise to other kings and queens including the present English. Royal family, so who really won ?

Mary and Elizabeth never met in person. They exchanged letters and portraits but never met face to face.

Interesting how so many movies have this idealized version of Mary Queen of Scots' execution and of her image at the time. In 1587, Mary was 45, had lost her beauty, gained a lot of weight, and was forced to use a wig to hide her balding, much like her Tudor cousin, so she was as far from Saoirse Ronan as you can possibly imagine. While Mary did go serenely to her death, as befits a queen, the execution itself was horribly botched, and it took several blows to finish her. The executioner tried raising the head by the hair, which of course then came loose from the wig and started rolling around, to the horror of all the witnesses. And finally her dog, which was hiding in her skirts, burst out of them screaming and gave the audience a final jump scare. The Helen Mirren Elizabeth miniseries comes closest to the grotesque horror of this spectacle, and still tones it down. Poor thing.

It was a Mary biopic so of course it would flatter her, just like Elizabeth biopics do so. And this particular scene, Mary looks like an Elizabeth's idealization from her. And there so many accounts, witnesses that suggest very different things, such as Mary never having this "dress reveal" moment, but for an screen play it realy fits that kind of heroic ultimate sacrifice, even though we know that things were way more botched than romantic like that

Just finished binging on Reign. It is a fascinating adaptation of the life of Queen Mary of Scotland. Amazing cast. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

It was good but it strayed far and wide from the facts. Mary was a redhead from her Tudor blood (Uncle Henry VIII on her mother’s side). Francois was a sickly runt, not the dashing, handsome prince but hey, it was a fun series to watch.

Almost sure it's paraphrased cos it's said that they never met but the UK is tiny compared to USA and we think 4 hours driving is "a bit much" but the monarchy is and was very secretive so itf there's letters I can't see why a ship couldn't have sailed the coast an they met on a boat or something, remember Kings and Queens don't kill each other with their own hands and even enemies were had cordial meetings so I think specially when she was in France they could have at least been in the same place

This movie is beautiful and fascinating.

I can't take this movie seriously because of how Margot Robbie ends up looking like an actual clown. It makes the "signing the execution warrant" scene comedic. Also, Mary was middle aged when she died, not twenty like Saoirse Ronan looks. And the execution was ... rough. Really, really rough.

I know Mary wasn't that brilliant politician as Elizabeth was, but it could be Walsingham trying to dispach her, he hated the idea that another Catholix could sat on the throne, they couldn't just kill her only because they tought that she was a threat, they had to proof, so if you want to beliece that Mary is guilty it's ok, but let's not that from granted the Elizabeth privy-council, they were wise at the point that they could forge and simply get away from that.

It wasn't that hard to forge letters and royal seals. Mary's brother the Earl of Moray clearly forged the Casket Letters to destroy her reputation, if the letters were original and true, James VI wouldn't have them destroyed, he don't care so much for him's mother, so he don't care about her reputation.
