Today Top Hat Gaming Man talks about Marvel Super Heroes, the 1995 Infinity War Video game.
Intro
Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, Big Daddy Top Hat here! Welcoming you to another exciting episode of Fighting Game Thursday! The show where we regularly look at different fighting games, now spanning nearly 70 episodes. That's a bloody lot of fighters, ladies and gents! In today's content we are going to take a deep dive look at the first-ever fighting game that would allow gamers to play as a whole host of different characters from the Marvel Universe, thus enabling gamers to pit their favourites against one another in the most ambitious cross over in the world of superhero games yet.
This title ladies and gentlemen was special and an important stepping stone that would lead to the Marvel vs Capcom cross over fighting games down the line. While cross overs are now common practise in the world of movies and video games today, back then these sort of events felt even more exciting and significant as a result. Not only that, but this novel title would storywise be based around, Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet, a marvel story that would become embedded in popular culture with the Avengers Infinity War cross over movie, which was not only the most profitable Super Hero movie of all time. But the fourth most profitable movie of all time, full stop. Over twenty years prior to this massive commercial success, the most ambitious cross over in history existed in high-quality video game form. This ladies and gentlemen is the Mad Story of Marvel Super Heroes, The Infinity War Fighting Game! Yeaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh.
We have looked at the history of the relationship between Marvel and Capcom, many times on here in the past. We have analysed every game released pitting Marvel Super Heroes against Capcom fighters and we have looked at the birth of the relationship between the pairing with the release of the Punisher Arcade game. The Punisher would obviously be followed up with Xmen Children of the Atom, a game that functioned as both the first Marvel Fighting game and first character cross over with Capcom, as the game included Street Fighter's Akuma as a playable fighter.

This game is how I learned who Thanos was. I didn't read the Infinity Saga, so I didn't know who Thanos was, nor did I know what an "Infinity Gem" was. Kind of funny to think today that back then I questioned why Dr. Doom wasn't the final boss. I was like EVERYONE knows who Dr. Doom is. Thanos is a nobody!

Aww were finally going back to that magic of Marvel Super Heroes! Learning from X-Men COTA, Capcom really flexed their muscles with gorgeous artwork ( using some of Marvels best art as reff!) And expanding the awesome combos with lush visuals! The music was phenomenal and the voice actors came straight from the animated series( some anyway). This was the 1st of many great reasons to be a gamer!

Someone I use to be friends with told me to play this game and honestly, I'm glad I listened to him. This game was so much better than I thought it was. I love the infinity gem mechanic in this game (Which is weird because I don't think i would like it in Marvel VS Capcom Infinite). It did have a good choice of fighters, good stage backgrounds, great visuals, and of course the great and nostalgic CPS2 Marvel music. Really appreciate this title along with X-Men: Children of the Atom for eventually spawning the VS Series.

There was another Capcom game but based more in the Infinity War comic (the sequel to the Infinity Gauntlet comic) and also it was a beat 'em up: Marvel Super Heroes War of the Gems for the SNES.

was this the game that had 2 monitors? i remember going to a skating ring and there being one with what i remember being like two 40" screens side by side. might just be remembering it wrong but i definitely remember watching my friend who was as jock (ended up in the nfl) play like a pro and being surprised that he knew how to play video games so good.

All of these retrospectives make me see an opportunity for Disney and Capcom, one already done for the Street Fighter franchise. Marvel vs. Capcom: The Ultimate HD Collection Games included... X-Men: Children of the Atom Marvel Super Heroes (1995) X-Men vs. Street Fighter Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter Marvel vs. Capcom Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite A compilation of every Marvel fighting game developed by Capcom, the 1994-2000 games would also all HD remakes, and the 2010s games would see unlockable characters become available through non-financial means. I'd also suggest that maybe there would be a small handful of additional characters in each game that were popular at the time of original release. (For example: I've always been puzzled that Sagat wasn't in XM vs. SF to be Sabretooth's natural tag partner, and that neither games under the X-Men brand name had Beast, Jean Grey, or Jubilee at a time when the animated series was airing.)

Little disappointed you didn't mention this isn't Capcom's only game with the infinity gems and Marvel super heroes story as there was Marvel Super Heroes in War of the Gems on the Super Nintendo even though that was a platforming beatemup.
