This mode is definitely good in boss fights for getting those shots that are reminiscent of comic covers. Like having Peter in a big Venom hand or having him appear normal sized next to Kraven's giant face taking up the screen.

this is a nice new feature, but I feel like it'll be boring to use pretty quickly... Now would have they finally make the world UI possible to disable, now THAT would have been nice... haha yes I'm bitter. Also, don't know if it's the case for you but the solid backgrounds don't work anymore for me. TOD change is much better than in previous games because it's effective in a second, no loading screen anymore. But unfortunately you can't mix up weather... so no rain anymore as far as I could test.

I had to abandon my first attempt at the traffic shot because of the world UI, that should just be disabled in PM. As for the time of day, well I haven't finished the game so I really don't know what it's like yet 😆

I'll never understand why beating the game is required to change the day cycle when all we want to do is do it during the photo mode. Insomniac is nice, but their execution sometimes is a complete miss. I don't think too many folks care to change the day time during actual game play compared to photo mode IMO. I could be wrong of course, but giving both options would have been nice. I still think Horizon does it best when it comes to photo mode. No hurdles to do what I consider a base game feature.

I think in the game at least it is because they have specific conditions set for certain missions and stages of the story, so the unlock is available in the post-game stage. As for why that can't be overridden temporarily by the photo mode though, I don't know. You're absolutely right that it would be much more useful that way
