All right, phase 4 actually begins in another reality, in a distant future, where there is this brilliant scientist who discovers the multiverse. The multiverse is basically several different universes, and in each of these universes, there are variants-that your other selves form these universes whose lives took on a different path from your own. So this scientist discovered the multiverse, and his multiversal selves [HWR talking about meeting himself]
But the problem is, not all of these variants were nice guys. Some of them became paranoid, and started to invade and conquer other realities, creating cracks in the very fabric of the universe. These cracks became a giant cloud that looks like a dog-
Doug: Cloud dog,
Yes, and this cloud dog essentially eats stuff and wipes it from existence. So this big multiversal war happens that destroys everything. And one of these scientists weaponizes the space dog to end the multiversal war, kill his other selves, and remake the timeline. Now, instead of endless branching realities, there are only a few that form a sacred timeline. This scientist, who is now called he who remains, forms an agency called the Time Variance authority to police this sacred timeline. Essentially, they prune any timeline before it can spawn an evil version of themselves. And he invents a story that the sacred timeline was created by aliens called timekeepers [clip].
More on the TVA soon-but first, history resumes. The big bang, the creation of the infinity stones-you know all that. Now some of the first beings in the universe were these massive space gods called celestials, and their job was to create stars and galaxies. To reproduce, the celestials plant eggs inside of planets. And these eggs are powered by intelligent life on the planet. The celestials created creatures called deviants to protect this sentient life-but the deviants turned on their masters.
So then the celestials had to create a panther artificial life form to fight their rogue artificial life forms-so they created immortal space robots called the Eternals. Twelve Eternals arrive on earth in the paleolithic era, and each of them has a superpower used to fight the deviants. The Eternals become famous, and their names are repeated in math for centuries.
Now the Eternals have no idea that earth has a celestial baby inside of it, and that this baby will hatch and destroy the planet. They don't even know they’re space robots. Not going to name all the Eternals because that would be the whole video, but two of them, Sersei and Robb Stark, fall in love. The Eternals defeat the deviants, then hang out on earth for a few thousand years, until they eventually break up because of colonialism, and they go explore the world.
In ancient Egypt these powerful beings interfere with humanity, and people think they are gods. These gods choose human avatars to be their voices on Earth. Two important ones are Khnoshu, the god of the moon, and the crocodile goddess Ammit, who judges souls in the afterlife. The other gods have her imprisoned in a tiny statue after she tries to eat the souls of the entire world.
And at some point a man named Wen Wu finds these powerful rings from space that grants him extraordinary powers. He uses them to conquer parts of china, then to form a terrorist organization called the ten rings. Eventually, he meets a woman from another dimension, they fall in love, have a couple kids, he gives up being evil, then she is killed so he starts being evil and training his son to be a deadly assassin. His son sneaks away and starts a new dignity, where he hangs out and sings karaoke all the time.

Yall, it’s literally supposed to feel disconnected. You have the cosmic side, street level, magic. As we all know, they will all come together in Secret Wars, if not Kang Dynasty first. It’s a huge universe where villains are also everywhere else, they don’t have to connect all the time. That’s the beauty of projects like Moon Knight and Werewolf by Night. They can show up somewhere else, somehow unexpectedly. Just wait and let Feige work his magic.
This made the whole phase 4 actually make sense. Never noticed a lot of those subtle connections to events going on

Even though Phase 4 wasn't my favorite I still enjoyed it for the most part. Ryan did an outstanding job recapping Phase 4.
Did anyone notice that the audio clip in the post Credit Scene of Wandavision from Wanda's Kids calling for help is actually from the movie Dr. Strange Multiverse of Madness from the scene where Wanda is freighten them?

I think the issue with phase 4 comes down to over saturation and a lack of uniform direction. I personally enjoyed all of it even if I do get how some people could be uninterested in certain shows or movies. But it laid the foundation for lots of future projects without doing so in a way that you HAD to watch the shows in order to understand what’s upcoming. It’s very hard to come off of Endgame and all it’s spectacle. But I believe in time everything will reconnect and a lot of the people who skipped certain things will go back and rewatch.

Best way to look at phase 4 is the transition of the MCU. Dealing with the fallout of Endgame and the previous 22 movies as well as establishing the next big bad and laying the foundations of the multiverse.

Yea that’s exactly how it happened in the first two phases. People was hating on character development & story pushing movies not realizing it was to set up movies like civil war & infinity war. This is what marvel does that DC just can’t seem to get right because they always chasing the blockbuster hit.

“Pete does not have ties to Stark Industries….” That line hit me… got me thinking Spider-Man does. If happy and Pete knew May “through Spider-Man” then it stands to reason Spider-Man may be able to drop by and see Pepper or anybody else who participated in the Infinity War/Endgame. Surly they’d know Spidey and Iron Man had a close relationship.

But no one will know who Peter Parker is. No one. Not Pepper, not Dr Strange, not Tony if he was still alive... Although they do know who "spiderman" is, so all Peter would have to do is go up to an avenger and take off his mask and re-introduce himself.

I had been worrying about the mortal status of Doug since I was noticing that he's always presented as stock footage with new dubs every time, but then Rian showed him in new footage with him, and it was such a relief.

I personally loved phase 4. In fact overall it might have the most projects that i loved in a phase. It was a good breather from the universe wide stakes of the Infinity Saga. While introducing new characters and dipping its toes into Multiverse stuff. I'm super excited to see where Ms Marvel, Moon Knight, She Hulk, the Eternals, Shang-Chi go. As well as the new stuff being done with established characters. People don't seem to realize that a bit of a lower stakes breather was needed. That and there's a stupid culture war happening and idiots online think it's a defining personality trait to hate on the MCU.

For some reason hating on the MCU makes people think they’re cool. It’s like people aren’t allowed to enjoy something. I really enjoyed Phase 4 too. I love that the MCU is introducing all these new characters & trying different things. How creative was WandaVision? Or getting 3 Spidermen from different franchises? Or freaking Moonknight, how unique was that?! Warewolf by night? I can go on but point is Phase 4 being bad is blown way out of proportion.

I really liked all of Phase 4. Couldn’t even tell you what my favorite was. Are there a few confusing things? Sure- that’s Marvel’s way of getting you to watch the next thing. It’s a big, wacky, dramatic, Sci-fi, action, mystery, romance soap opera with superpowers, aliens and magic. What’s not to like?

Phase 4 was all about parenthood and grief, beginnings and endings. death and rebirth. Hawkeye n Bishop, grieving Natasha, Tchalla and Tchalla, mourning Tchala, Thor and that girl, mourning Jane Foster and her dad, Wanda and her kids grieving for Vision etc etc.
That was all of the important parts. Great job.

I think the phase 4 hate is somewhat deserved, but I don't think that should totally shake peoples faith in the story potential of phases 5 & 6. Definitely agree Screencrush crushed this recap video though

It isn’t as bad as everyone says, just different. I think people found it boring bcuz it’s essentially like Phase 1 with its sole purpose being to introduce new characters and teams. Shang-Chi, Eternals, Black Panther 2, WandaVision, FATWS, Loki, and Hawkeye were the best and actually pretty great IMO! P.S. The short films, GOTG: Holiday Special and WBN were too & the reveal of Peter and Mantis being half siblings bcuz Ego’s their dad, will heighten all the emotions if he dies in GOTG: Vol. 3 😅

For me, it's more like an introduction of new heroes...now since the original Avengers are not functioning anymore, new roaster of heroes are needed to tackle the bigger threat, which is Kang. When it comes to phase 4, overall I was satisfied. There were some good projects like Loki, Shang Chi, NWH, Werewolf by Night, Moon Knight, BP 2 and What If. However, some of the projects were not upto my expectations, like Thor 4, She-Hulk, Eternals. Well, it seems bit unrealistic to expect another Endgame like movie so soon. As with the Infinity Saga, this too would take time.

You should do a video like this but with phase 5 doing predictions for it see how it fits in this phase

Agreed! Would like to see a cohesive theory piecing together how they think the various threads connect between kang dynasty & secret wars, thunderbolts, young avengers, vibranium wars, gods vs superheroes, arishem's judgement, the bangle & ten rings, new supernatural/magic-based characters, daredevil, the fantastic four, and more mutants. They may probably not all connect and instead be split between cosmic, global, and street level threats, but still would like to see if there are any theories that tie it all together to eventually get to that endgame level portals scene except even bigger.
Telling Doug "No, you're footage from earlier." When you held him up looking like he's just waking up was . . . HILARIOUS!

Phase 4 is dope, as is this recap. I get kinda dicouraged at all the videos about correcting all the "mistakes" of this phase as if the answer to this is for Marvel to just regress back to Phase 1, legacy characters and trying to duplicate Endgame.
