As a lawyer, there are a few other problems with the story. First, Jen is not a district attorney. From what I understand, she's a civil lawyer. Thus, she wasn't prosecuting the defendant. That would have been the job of the local district attorney. If she is representing that woman, the only thing she could do, as a lawyer, is sue him in civil court and get monetary damaged. Second, the punishment is determined by a jury. So, they thought 18 months was appropriate for the man. Jen, who is obviously biased, is deciding that her judgement is better than a jury's. Third, she is almost certainly disbarred. I counted at least five major felonies. Destruction of government property, assaulting a police officer, assault, kidnapping, and obstruction of justice. But, this is the new Marvel. Where the new standard bearer, Carol Danvers, actually murders Tony Stark, and not a single person bats an eye. Edit: I just realized I forgot to apply my rule. Carol Danvers is not Captain Marvel. Captain Marvel was a Kree officer who gave up everything to save mankind. Captain Marvel is the black police officer who found herself given extraordinary powers and used them to help people. Carol Danvers is an authoritarian wanna-be dictator who will kill people who get in her way.

Back in the days when Marvel had good writers, this would be the beginning of a "fall from grace" storyline for She-Hulk. She takes the law into her own hands, she gets disbarred, maybe even faces prison time. Then she realizes that the justice system, while flawed, is still the only thing that keeps us from total anarchy. She turns herself in, maybe even serves some time in prison, comes out a different but smarter person. Gold Digger (Antarctic Press) had pretty much that exact scenario, where a She-Hulk character murdered another hero. Even though she was being blackmailed at the time, she still went to prison for manslaughter, and only accepted parole when the world was facing a Thanos-level threat. And every time she punched someone, Fred Perry (the writer) would have her worried that she would kill again, even accidentally. Back in the day, that's how Marvel would've played it, and it would've been excellent. Today's Marvel doesn't care, because writing is no longer something they care about.

She thought she had been out of line while in prison, so she went into solitary. While the guards would probably have loved to give her some medals for her behavior. I knew she wasn't evil or bad. She made one mistake, a tragic one, but also an understandable one that was under duress. I just wish we'd have seen more of her in Agency Zero. Though, that is one of the very few flaws of Gold Digger, but the biggest. Too many characters I'd like to see more of.

This wasn't legal and it wasn't done by the government. This is exactly what antifa wants to do, if only they had a little more power. One because it’s a waste of his time to kill someone already going to prison, he goes for those the law can’t touch or keep hold of. And two because it requires killing an innocent cop to get to him something the Punisher does not do. Even in the Punisher video game if you kill an innocent you have to restart the level. Obviously. Feminists view men they dont find attractive breathing the same air as them to be rape. Also, if the man was convicted, that means that whatever he was accused of, he gets the usual punishment. There is a reason the jury decides the punishment, and not the victim. Thirdly, she murdered police. Coincidentally, the only dead cop shown, was a man. The writer is clearly fantasising about murdering the people who decided the outcome for her alleged attackers, believing that men in law prevent justice, even though most criminals who are brought down are brought down by men. She shouldn't even be allowed outside a padded room

Actually, I just remembered something. Moon Knight did this story WAAAAAY better. 1. The rapist was clearly a rapist, every flash back (because the story was told by his female victims in a meeting talking about their abuse) showed how he'd manipulate and drug his victims so there is no question he committed the crime. 2. The rapist hasn't already been arrested so he is still at large which necessitates someone tracking him down. 3. Moon Knight is the type of hero that would do this type of thing, especially in this specific run because he's so unhinged he's carving moon symbols on criminal's faces. 4. The story is told entirely by the victims themselves, they get to speak about their abuse, not the hero. In fact I don't think Moon Knight ever talks during this story and he and his allies are mostly in the background or not the focus in the flashbacks but you can tell who they are. 5. At the end, the first victim I think, actually gets to have revenge herself after Moon Knight beats him to a pulp by suffocating him in the hospital bed. She didn't need someone holding him down and she actually kills him which is fair since he was such a disgusting monster that he deserved it and it is still shown as fucked up that the other victims are shocked when she admits that. It doesn't glorify murder but it does use a hero who would attack the guy, the guy hasn't faced justice yet, he very clearly is guilty and its the actual victims who get to talk about it, not some third party super hero doing the job for them. Moon Knight, a hero who at this point is so insane he is carving people's faces, made a better revenge story about getting back at a rapist then a sane super hero who is a lawyer and would likely know better ways to punish this guy. Moon Knight did this better, that's freaking sad.

Thus while it’s a revenge fantasy, it’s still made clear that these are not your typical heroes. When a “hero” like She-Hulk has this much power yet devolves into revenge instead of giving a stronger prosecution then there’s something wrong with the writer.

Feminists don't just want justice AND revenge, they want the right to falsely accuse and get INJUSTICE, and then also have their delusional revenge against that innocent person on top, so that they can feel validated and have an excuse for their failures in life and drink up all the ill-gotten sympathy and attention. I started writing revenge stories in my early teens just to get some things off my chest, but eventually I liked writing so much that I decided to attempt to master it. Through my attempts, I've come to learn about many things that have showed me better ways to live. It became therapy which improved both my life and writing considerably. This comic is like "It's not the size: it's what you do with it" except for incompetence and bad storytelling. It's fascinating how the artist/author had only a single page to tell their story, and yet managed to _concentrate_ the ineptitude that I'm sure would have been distributed more evenly if they'd been writing a longer story. Every single panel has either something outright wrong with it, something profoundly stupid, or both. Panel #1: Okay, I might not be up on my She-Hulk lore, but I thought she was a lawyer with a private practice (ie, she doesn't work for the federal/state government). Why is she suddenly a prosecutor in a criminal case? The only capacity she should be serving in a criminal case is as a defense attorney, and if she were the representative for the plaintiff in a civil case then the only thing she'd be able to 'get' for her client is compensation for damages. You can't sue someone so hard they go to prison. Also, 18 months is "better than nothing"? That man is now not only a felon, but likely also a registered sex offender. Both of those will follow him for the rest of his life. He is not getting off easy. Panel #2: This is probably the least-incompetent panel of them all by virtue of basically nothing happening. All I'll say is that the way they drew it, it looks like there's a floodlight blasting through their windows directly onto the bed. Maybe draw your curtains and you'll sleep better, you dolts. Panel #3: The hell are you on about, Jen? How does the amount of time he employed her matter? Is the problem that she worked for him for less time than he was sentenced to in prison? Would it have been better if he'd done this the first week of her employment? And "cleaning up his messes"? Was she his maid/cleaning lady? If so, that's a weird way to say that, but I'm also wondering why that's relevant. Is Jen implying that if the lady's job had been more prestigious, that would have somehow made the 18 month sentence more palatable? Is there some financial/social threshold beyond which Jen would have no longer cared about what happened to this woman? Panel #4&5: Okay, once again, I'm not exactly up on my She-Hulk lore, but wasn't one of the big distinctions she had from her cousin the fact that despite having her mental faculties intact, she could never entirely shed the appearance of her hulk-state? But hey, maybe she has the ability to turn back now for some reason...but shouldn't people still know that Jennifer Walters and She-Hulk are the same person from all that time _before_ getting this ability to transform? Panel #6: Nothing too much to see here, though I'm baffled as to why the artist didn't think to make the guy look even remotely unsympathetic. All it would have taken is having a small smile on his face to imply that A) he was satisfied with the outcome of the case and B) the punishment really _was_ a hell of a lot less severe than you'd have expected for whatever crime he committed. But then again, that would require the artist/writer to understand that we don't automatically assume this guy deserves everything about to happen because of what they've shown us thus far. Frankly, I'm just impressed they even thought to show that he has a seatbelt on. Panel #7: Hoo-boy...here we go. Panel #8: Wow. That's...okay, that's insane. She just stiff-arm stopped a van going at speeds sufficient to send the rear wheels up a solid thirty degrees. They aren't on a highway, so in the US that means the van is probably going upwards of 50mph (for a 45 zone) and downwards of 30mph (for a 25 zone), so we'll meet halfway at 40mph. Cars are built specifically to prolong deceleration in the event of an otherwise absolute and immediate stop, so it's not quite as if she's making that van go from 40 to 0 in a heartbeat, but...that still isn't good for the people inside. Like, at all. The guy in the back especially so, since he's wearing a two-point seat belt (there's a reason why almost every modern seat belt is three-point) and sitting sideways. Panel #9: Good grief, this panel...let's start with the driver. Did they just assume that an absence of blood would make us assume that he's clearly 100% fine and just taking a nap? Because holy shit, that man needs to go to a hospital, _now_ . The fact alone that he's been knocked unconscious is an enormous cause for concern, and that's before we look at how badly hurt every other part of his body might be from Jen doing her level best to drive the steering column through his torso. The prisoner is apparently fine, I guess. No need to check him for internal injuries. But putting aside the creepy insanity of this entire scenario...Jen is going to prison, right? And definitely getting disbarred? She doesn't have a secret identity, and what she just did was _holy_ _shit_ levels of illegal. Hell, even if we pretend for a moment that Jen could somehow have been a prosecutor in a criminal trial, she just made that 18 month sentence the most easily-appealed verdict on the planet. That lady is probably going to jail, too, assuming she attacks the guy like the comic seems to think we would believe is the morally just thing to do. It's just...almost every component of this has problems, and collectively they form an even _bigger_ problem. How does anyone construct this and say 'Yes, this is a product of marketable quality and I am proud to have made it'?

Revenge fantasies are just fine...write yours out, doodle it up, ask yourself why this appeals to you and be honest, then toss it in the fire. Such fantasies are not what you share with other people. Even the revenge element of The Count of Monte Cristo (crisco, monte crisco...hah! I kill me) used the revenge element to set up a morality play wherein the main character only cleanses his soul when he GIVES UP HIS REVENGE.

Revenge stories can be engaging, but they cant feel like mental masturbation, otherwise its like listening to a rando saying they wish they could do violent, awful shit without much context; its uncomfortable and not interesting. The aforementioned count of monte cristo is brilliant, as well as 1 or 2 adaptations that have their own good spin on things. You've got book Edmund who wanted this revenge until he saw Villefort snap and then begged god for the duel with Albert to be called off, and his revenge against Danglars is simply bankrupting him. Youve got Gankatsuou where hes possessed by some malevolent space demon and relishes in the suffering of those who wrong him, but Edmund is the antagonist to Albert the protagonist in Gankatsuou but it still works in its own weird way, not as good as the original but I never would have thought to make boring ass Albert the hero, nor make the setting space, but they make it work and Fernand Mondego is actually a fairly good guy despite being awful in his youth. Pirates of the Caribbeans first movie had a revenge story and we all loved Jack Sparrow in that and still loved him in the 2nd and 3rd movies, despite the characters being more like parodies of themselves and Cutler Beckett's story is one partly of revenge. Revenge STORIES are fine, great even, but revenge fantasies are dicey because if youre too self indulgent and not a good enough writer, then its just something you should keep to yourself.

I'm a newbie-emergent writer, and I've written some Revenge thingies, mainly when I was trying to let go of a really traumatic event. They can be really calming, kind of the creative element to a pocketable stress ball? I'd rather call them "Vents" though because they were more like random creepy drawings, illustrations of angry song lyrics...Or just me being an overall horror fanatic, than what you see here. But tbh what this girl did here it's really generalizing and she turned a hero into some sort of villain, because no hero would kill another law enforcer just because. Breaking a well established character is a No-No in writer rules. If you really need to make a "Revenge" story: 1) Give context, the readers need to know the details of the whole thing so it doesn't look overblown 2) Make the character be in character, especially if it's an already very established character,or make a new one if it's a one-shot story 3) Think of realistic dialogues, planning and interactions, make them seem as natural as possible, depending on whether you want to make a "Let's fuck this guy up!" Story or a "Why do I get these impulses??" Story 4) When discussing the Reaction-to-Action plotline make it appropriate. What do I mean? You can't kill someone because they stole some random thing or just scream at a guy who killed someone. 5) Make an ending according to the kind of story you want to write. Does the person who gets revenge go to jail? Do they get away with it with an escape plan? Do they regret it? There we go,you got the idea for a story that can be more than a revenge self insert!! Enjoy and have fun ^^

The Sensational She-Hulk is still one of my favorite graphic novels. She was powerful, well spoken, confident, and a vision of beauty. Your archetypical, idealized heroic character. She wasn't an all-powerful Mary Sue, but a reasonably well-developed character with plenty of canon to draw from for any writer to take the reigns and continue her journey. Now? Now she's gone to a PTSDish victim of violence that turns into the trans mma fighter that broke a woman's skull, and watches baking shows on stream. She's an angry, stupid rage monster that looks like she's made and eaten all the pastries from every video she's watched. A piss-poor facsimile of banner's complex struggle with his inner demon given physical form. So man-ifying her to the point of erasing any distinctiveness is somehow and improvement? The only way this character gets any sales is in duping people by way of the name alone. The worst part of all these intersectional identitarian post-modern types is that they don't follow their own philosophy to it's natural, and self-defeating conclusion: that when you intersect all conceivable factors, you end up with the most discriminated minority there is: the individual, and the word identity etymologically means 'sameness'. That this follows logically is of course invalid as the very system they can't seem to grasp with competence is a system of oppression, while mimicking it's merits without putting in the work. How this kind of public behavior hasn't been seen for the egocentric narcissistic self-spunking that it is? It's actually embarrassing to watch. Then again, denial isn't just a river in Egypt.

She-Hulk commits second-degree murder and is at _least_ accessory to assault, and strictly speaking committing the crime of escape for taking someone out of the back of a prison van, because she didn't win a case hard enough. Very cool. Very cool very cool. Super heroic. Very cool.

Revenge fantasies ignore the fact that the best outcome for any kind of trauma is acceptance. In this case, not only she has to live with a past corrupted by someone else, she also is will willingly making that past dictate her life in the future. But with no moral compass or cultural structure, with generations that basically have to re-discocer fire and figure out if killing a baby is moral or not, i'm not surprised at all this is what people do with their freedom :/

A podcast I never heard of until now and from the sounds of it, it sounds like a complete snore. I mean, I get there are comics and other shit made out their that show heroes on the downtime but I'm irked because right now ALL THE TIME is made to be heroes down time currently. And again I ask; is this honestly how they thought they could get 'moar women and minorities' into comics and I ask that as a member of BOTH. Something always bothered me with this assumption, in that 'women and minorities' are so functionally different than, ahem, STRAIGHT WHITE CIS HET MALE MEN whatever, that we can't even come into comics just as they are, even though there are tons of fans in the past that would prove the assumption that shit like this is needed is wrong. That's why I can never get into these nu-wave comics even if they are said to be aimed at 'me' (adult Black woman) because they don't read like comic books where I can watch heroes do some weird ass shit and be entertained by their heroics. Instead, I find myself reading the rantings of some White coastal chick who only cares about getting her revenge fantasies out and wanting to be praised for it. That's the problem; their assumption is that ALL WOMEN want this and ALL WOMEN feel this way. Actually, I don't. I don't hate men, I don't fear for my life because of my race, and I have been alive long enough to experiences some shit but if they really want me to detail in who and what I find to be the most racist people on the planet, it's no longer the shit that my parents and grandparents had to live through but the chucklefucks who think that BECAUSE I am a Black woman I am constantly suffering and so they treat me like I'm a mentally disabled child and EXPECT me to thank them for that. They keep projecting that women want this and women who don't, well don't exist apparently. To put it bluntly, these fuckers assume that all women share their stupid fantasies so that gives them more then enough room to keep cramming it down out throats? You want to know my 'fantasy'? A giant kaiju just coming in and destroying this shit. I'm a Black woman, Marvel. Hire me or you're racist and sexist.

I had some revenge fantasies as a teenager, after some stuff that happened before I came to the US. Even then, as a kid, while not well, I was never enough of a delusional narcissist to inflict stories of said fantasies on innocent listeners/readers. It would never even have occurred to me. These professional victims are something else - the entitlement is off the charts!

Well I actually like revenge stories like the Crow, John Wick, Millennium Trilogy. But it takes a very particular kind of story and characters to do it right. I think they would be considered thrillers? The villains are typically excessively evil, crime bosses, or something like that. Often times stereotypical so. They usually sit in a position that makes them seem untouchable by the law. Certainly not some skinny criminal already heading to prison. Also the good guys are usually not all good which is why they can justify revenge, and the wrong that was committed against them is always personal.

Well ,Millennium Trilogy is a completely different can of worm from the other two,the distinction of right and wrong is nuanced, even though the villains did effectively cruel and villanous things. More than Justice vs Criminal is a story about Person vs Person. The first two have a backstory that acts more as a justification to see a revenge story, the last one is much more complex.

That's not what JSG meant by revenge stories. When feminists write revenge stories, it's always about woman empowerment and how men are evil. A regular revenge story would be The Punisher, or John Wick like you mentioned. You can tell how a story will end up depending on who's writing it. If you put a feminist or SJW behind it, expect to find a lot of political and "destroy the patriarchy" drivel.

Same here. Then I wandered over to the independents and bought My Little Pony. Better writing, better artwork, fun story. When a story about Rainbow Dash racing in Equestria's version of NASCAR (and they even got the history of NASCAR correct) is better than anything Marvel is putting out, something has gone very, very wrong.

To be fair, James O'Barr wrote 'The Crow' as, essentially, a revenge fantasy - as I understand it, his girlfriend got brutally killed by some street thugs, so he created the Crow concept and character as a way of working out his pain - and that wound up working pretty well. They CAN work. That being said, yeah, this is obviously BS on any number of levels, and is not in any way something that the established character of She-Hulk (as opposed to this ersatz version) would do.
