Maruki Fist Fight English Dub. Tribute to Billy Kametz. RIP

Billy Kametz, an amazing voice actor and person, has lost his battle with Colon Cancer. This scene is his best performance IMO. So much sadness and despair. God be with Billy and his loved ones. I know he’s looking down on us in heaven right now.

What makes Maruki such an amazing character is that he literally doesnt have an evil bone in his body, misguided? Oh hell yeah, but he was truthfully doing the best for everyone he cared about, he was literally about to destroy the world and make it a new one where everyone could truly be happy and make a reality of perfection...but he can admit when he was wrong and lets go of his ultimate dream, and changes for the better. Rip Billy, you made this character an immortal figure forever.

I actually say he does have evil: namely hypocrisy. He didnt grant Shido a good reality, even though he deserves to be punished... Maruki's goal was for everyone to have peace and life. He also took away choices from others... and turns out he tried to use trauma of a minor to manipulate two other minors! (Sumire to Joker and Akechi)

The amount of grief, and raw emotion that was poured into the new game content in Royal was sincerely enough to bring me to tears multiple times which no game has done before. A peaceful man who lost everything only wants to future where nobody has to feel pain or loss opposed to some kind of narciccist with a god complex I almost didn’t fight him had it not been for the fact I would’ve gotten the bad ending I would’ve let him have his way. What a fucking rollercoaster

You may hate him for being the most annoying boss. But you gotta admit 1 thing, he really giving his best for fighting us. Cuz if you would place himself in his place, our powerful characters are WAY more annoying XD i really love the fight he puts against us. Cuz you can't consider him be the evil one. Cuz before him, we fought true devils. While Maruki is just a guy who's simply lost everything, and payed the bigger price, and yet, you somewhat can feel his pain. Which is the boss fight against him, is more powerful.

When I got to this point I was cackling like a madman. I personally never gave Maruki the benefit of the doubt or ever attempted to entertain the idea he might be right (because he's not), so this played out to me like a toddler throwing a temper tantrum that he lost, but it was a nice emotional reset after the (personal) slog through his first phase.

do you not feel actual emotion or something? yes, maruki wasn't right. but that doesnt mean what he wished for was wrong either. he simply was misguided, and given a power no man should have. i've discussed this many times with people but, as sad as it makes me as someone in the medical field soon, we truly *can't* have a perfect reality. we can wish for it all we want but.. you can't change the past, plus... you cant make opposing sides come to an agreement with this idea either. its just not possible. Maruki unfortunately was just... in so much grief and wanted his girlfriend to be happy, alongside everyone else. Like a fellow commenter said, he has no bad bone in his body, he was just misguided. Why do you think he gives you so many chances to back off and let his reality become the true one? Because he doesnt want to fight, or hurt anyone... He just wants to have the thieves, especially sumire akechi and joker understand his position, even if its misguided. thats what gives this scene so much weight. the thieves finally convinced him that his dream is, simply put, unobtainable... even if it was his ultimate dream and what he spent his life working towards. please, next time you play a heavily story based JRPG, listen to the story and the actual message its trying to tell. video games are a form of art, and art, no matter what form it takes, tells a story.

@@SmgMakotoLife also like you can say he doesn't wanna fight but once you get to the Adam Kadmon phase that goes out the window. You could probably make the argument that Adam Kadmon could be overpowering his conscious will, but his Persona is still another part of him. Another thing is that while it's sad that a perfect world will never be truly possible, that doesn't change the fact that he's a very mentally messed up person. He forced a girl to believe she was her dead sister to the point it overtook every facet of her personality. He forced the thieves, Makoto, Futaba, and Haru especially, to either actively relive their trauma. Also, what he wished for WAS inherently wrong. He may have had good intentions, but that doesn't make his wish automatically good. He essentially brainwashed everyone into shells of their former selves. Maybe life would be better if everyone was happy but then it wouldn't be life. Life is about joy and sadness, meeting new people and losing old friends. Life is about the good and the bad. Everyone goes through rough shit in life, but it's how you respond to that rough shit, move past, accept that it happened and grow, that makes life.. life. Not ignoring it, covering it up and saying "no.. see! That didn't happen, haha!" Also, I find it hilarious that you think I missed all the themes of this arc. I saw them, I just responded to them differently then you. And that's ok. Like you said, video games are art, and people are allowed to respond to art in different ways. You saw this part of the game and felt sadness at a man who was pushed so far by life he thought this was the only answer. I saw this part of the game and was disgusted that he'd do this to my friends, people I had grown to care about.

@@ZekromAndYugiAndDrago123 To be fair, you judged that his wish was inhertently wrong based on what you think life is, except I'm not sure if there is a concrete answer for what it is, so such an answer would come from an opinion. I don't think it's accurate to tell someone that their opinion is objectively false when your supporting argument is also an opinion. In my opinion, whether his wish was right or wrong depends on how someone approaches their problems. The approach may also be dependent on the problem. There are some problems you can't deal with by being headstrong and moving forward, and a lot of problems that can be solved that way. That being said, that would mean my stance is neutral, so it's probably inaccurate to call what I've said an opinion on the matter. I did think making Sumire believe she was someone else was effectively like killing her and bring that person in her place, which doesn't sound great even if Sumire literally wished for exactly that. As for the rest of the thieves, Maruki wasn't the one who made them relive their trauma, it was technically Joker who made them experience that, though it wasn't completely to their detriment. Maruki was the reason that happened in the first place, but to be fair he didn't know that they could break out of it the way they did. One issue I can see from his approach is that he made some people give up their passion, such as Yusuke's art friend who Maruki made pursue archery instead. The thing about this that makes it a problem though is not a problem with his wish, but rather that he made a judgement call about what he thought the guy wanted instead of actually hearing what he wished for. I think logically this is the only problem with his approach, but otherwise every other account would have to be decided by beliefs and values.
