I've listened to Merle Haggard for most of my 50 years. I finally saw him live in 93. I cried through most of the show. He really had such a big influence on me and his songs were such a huge part of my life. This song is no different. I cry because I'm sad that he's gone but I cry because he was so wonderful too.

I’m a banjo player in a Bluegrass band. Last Saturday, 10 Apr 21, we played at a Strawberry Festival on the farm that grows them as well as cotton, peanuts, watermelons and more. I was told a storm came through and destroyed the watermelon crop one year and the farmer just had to get in his truck and go be alone for awhile. That was farmers blues. I thought about this song and have been listening to it all week. I’m thinking of adding to our bands repertoire. I’m sure Marty saw a lot of farming in Mississippi where I went to college btw.

My grandpa was forced to take up a job in a cabinet shop, because between the small town economy and the state taxes on the farm, he just couldn't make enough money to support the family. My dad left the farm and went on to be an auto body repairman, but dang it if that farmin blood didn't just skip a generation. I hold a deep passion for the lifestyle my grandpa and all my ancestors before him led, and I hope to one day live it, along with a regular job, to support the family.

Imagine a grocery store if there were no farms. @Jas4u2 Hi.......Nashville ended, I believe in 2006 when Ricky Van Shelton retired. It's ashame how the 50's...60's...........70's...80's...........90's...........have been treated. I miss Nashvile Now ....I love Merle Haggard, George Jones, Randy Travis..........do many other great artists.......... .Gwen Weaver
