Marty Friedman - Night - Clean Demo

Hey all, this is an impromptu video demoing the clean tone I've managed to conjure up from the depths of Kemper's Rig Manager with a little tweaking here and there. Considering Marty apparently used a Fernandes Strat to record cleans on this album, I don't think I did THAT bad using Kemper Profiles and his signature KE1! I know I could have done it without the backing track, but this is just how I practice my timing, dynamics and the overall style of my favourite players. This is just for fun, and I still have a long way to go in nailing Marty's style!
I also wanted to get opinions on the setup I have here as a whole. I used to have a 2x12 cabinet right where the camera is here, so I haven't had the room lately, but as that's now being stored elsewhere I thought I'd try and shoot something quick to test the waters! Lighting and video angles will be better in the future if it's a winner. 👍

WARNING: NUMEROUS AUDIO GLITCHES PRESENT!! - I tried to edit them out as best I could, so if you hear any random volume drops then that's where there would be a kind of clipping noise.(although it wasn't actually clipping).

It is a beaut, I've had to block the floyd because the screws for the top nut rounded the threads in the neck :( But it still plays amazingly.

Thanks! Marty's style is so interesting to play. I bet it would sound even more clean and crystal if it were through a real amp hah, plus with fresh strings!😂

@@DomicidalCovers Do you think it would really make that much of a difference with a real amp? I think it's in the hands mostly tbh. Maybe it would make a difference if you were in a room. Since most sounds are post processed in the box it doesn't really matter any more. But that is just me. Excellent vid again my man. I love your channel.

@@SwainBjornstrandt Oh it definitely would here! I wouldn't 100% rely on random profiles made by random people because you don't know how accurate that tone is to the amp that it's being profiled/modelled after. Profiling is hit and miss most times I have tried it, there's a lot of tweaking, and I always can hear the difference, especially in the low end, it's like there's always some natural compression with every profile I try, and if a profile isn't made properly there will be more low end a lot of the time. A lot of tone is definitely in the fingers, but how bright a note sounds from pick-attack is going to come from how the amp reacts with the whatever plectrum you use and how you use it imo.

Thank you! Yeah they are the key! I couldn't get everything 100% nailed for this as my fingertips were quite sore from practicing when I haven't played a guitar in standard tuning like this for years, not to mention the fact I'm starting out with one of the most painful styles to emulate haha. I think I'll have it mostly nailed when I start to built some calus again though! 🙂

Glad you noticed! I didn't want to go full Marty with the right hand, but just enough to get the picking angle right, and I think it works! I still have to get used to it, but I think with a little practice I'll be comfortable with it soon enough!

Thanks muchly! It's a Marty Friedman signature USA KE1, can't remember what year, but I think possibly late 90's, it was part of a limited run of 100 by Musician's Friend apparently. It did have the number stamped on the end of the fretboard, but I had to get it re-fretted a few years ago so the number was sanded through :( I think it was number 33, but can't remember exactly.

Yep, although it's pretty much useless because the mounting holes for the top nut are stripped and even with dowling and redrilling it twice(because I messed up redrilling the hole the first time) it hasn't sorted it. If I can't get someone else to sort it then I may just leave it and block the floyd since Marty didn't use one on his anyway😂
