And people still underestimate him. I can definitely see him reclaiming the title next year.

For real. Without injuries and Covid, Martins could've been back at the podium. He and Mateusz are the future of Strongman with their extremely athletic physiques for such large men.

I don't think he's as strong as T. Stoltman, Novikov, Janashia, Richardson, Mitchell, Mateusz when it comes to pure strength. Reckon he's beaten in conventional lifts but overall package, speed, ability, adaptability, is why he excels. In years gone past I dont think he'd have gotten on the platform.

@@unknown55158 raw strength is often subjective to singular activities. WSM requires raw strength, strategy with the events you're given on short notice, the cardiovascular endurance to complete all of those tasks and (very commonly overlooked) flexibility/range of motion. WSM is kinda similar to MMA: sure, Brock Lesnar was probably stronger than everyone he fought, but he couldn't put it all together. Martins and Mateusz are the body types to change strongman for the next generation and they both topped a podium at a WSM that was PACKED with the top contenders. They are the future, barring injuries, but regardless they're the new mold. The sport evolves, like everything else. Glad to see a fellow fan so involved. 💪

@@unknown55158 oh and I don't wanna forget Novikov as someone else who fits the Martins and Mateusz mold. That guy is just as good.

Yep, it's crazy to me that some people still understimate him. When you look at his competition history he has pretty much always been a consistant threat to the top spots. If Martins comes in to a competition in shape, you better believe he's a top contender for the podium.

Licis beat both Thor and Mateusz, both arguably the strongest and the most athletic strongman ever, but people still keep making excuses for his victory. Shouting how Brian is much stronger than him, Novikov or Tom, and anything that deviates from Brian's strength is "turning the sport into CrossFit", no one of the champions deserves this, specially not Brian who doesn't need nobody pitty to win

Nobody ever talked about how Thor RAN up to Martins, with a torn plantar fascia, to congratulate him.

Just like the other commenter posted, they say his name and hold the "eeeeeeens" part of Martins. His signature celebration is to hold up his fist and shout Martins as well, which is ultimately where it came from. The guy is a great dude and personality for the sport.

@@nbs90 bad? I'm confused on the morality of it being bad, haha. I was there live from the qualifying to the finals and it was electrifying hearing it. It was my 3rd WSM and, despite the insane heat outside, it was one of the most incredible experiences because of Martins and the chants. Just my pov, though.

@@nbs90 I tried to post a link but search for a video of a John Kuhn touchdown. That's a guy who is beloved by the fans, but his name sounds sooooo much like a "boooo" haha. A perfect one is "John Kuhn touchdown jumps over goal line"
