I like that there are other kids waiting to play with her, but my heart always thinks there are way too many kids there because that means they all were killed by people that should have loved and cared for them.

Except it wasn't. Martina didn't write the song. It was written by Stephanie Bentley and Rob Crosby and found its way to Martina's manager. Clearly though the video Martina made it about her niece and that is how she connected to it when she sang it, but it wasn't written about Angela Carter specifically.

This song never fails to make me emotional , child abuse is NEVER okay , and sadly those who are suppose to protect the child are the ones doing them harm , my family was tight knit and my aunts and uncles where amazing growing up , but with time things change and people change, one day I got a call from my cousin and she was sobbing and I can hear my aunt in the background yelling and my other cousin screaming , I told my bf to call 911 and I never felt so helpless, terrified , angry , heart broken in my entire life ( I lived 3 states over otherwise I would have gone there right away) , I heard my aunt beat the living snot out of my little cousin ( he was 6 at the time) I could hear her make contact with his body all while she called him names and he was screaming this scream I will never forget and all I could do was yell thru the phone begging her to stop , begging her to talk to me to tell me what was wrong , telling her over and over to stop , when she was arrested she had the nerve to tell me that I betrayed the family and I should have known she had a mental breakdown and she went on and on trying to defend her actions and I told her the moment she decided to lay hands on that baby is the moment she is the one who betrayed the family , I will never regret what I did , nothing anyone can say will ever justify abusing a child , or an animal or the elderly, I love that Martina sheds light on these topics that tend to get swept under the rug , if you see something always say something

I love when reaction videos are done by people who usually are into the opposite genre of the music especially Hard and Metal Rock fans!! After watching Martina's music video, a shot of bourbon sounds good indeed.

She did that crossover show with Pat Benatar where they sing each other's songs, it was amazing

Martina has always had one of the biggest voices in Country Music, she's amazing and she sounds even better live. She also through her entire career used her platform to bring light to tough subjects like this one, child abuse, domestic violence, etc. She was never afraid to tackle the tough subjects, instead she made it almost the purpose of her career.

@@sueg3650 references with date still tracking info. this song is about child abuse. it is so meaningful and it says a lot for many children in this world. i think that Martina did an amazing job with this song i must say. the little girl (Martina's niece_ must have had a terrible life ... r.i.p Angela, let the angels take care of you. Martina puts so much detailed emotions and actions into this song. i really hope that Angela's mother got what she deserved, and i hope she feels terrible for what she done. hopefully no-body feels any mercy for her cruel and evil moves which she could have stopped by not becoming a drunk just because she got divorced. she couldn't have cared enough for her daughter as much as she did when she was married as she did not hit her when she was married. Angela would be so proud of her aunty and i bet she is looking down on her family. i really wish someone had phoned the police sooner and then maybe Angela could still be with us, she would have been beautiful. did anyone notice she had the word angel in her name also?. she was an absolute angel from the day she was born and no matter what she will be loved and missed and in the song it says "the world forgot", for those people i sure hope they haven't still forgotten what happened to the beautiful Angela Carter in 2005 ... rest in peace the 'concrete angel'

It was not written for her niece. There are no interviews with Martina McBride stating that it was. I remember when this song came out and there was nothing about mentioned at the time. It wasn't in any magazine articles or mentioned on Country Music Television, etc. If she had said this in a single interview it would have made headlines. In an internet search, it's only stated that she said that in two song lyric websites, again if it were true at least dozens of results would pop up when you search for it. People like me are old enough to remember when this came, this would common knowledge among us. You're only the second person to ever think this. If have a link from a well-known site or an actual interview with Martina McBride I would be interested to see it. Regardless this song is powerful, to say the least.

IMHO the best voice in country

I grew up listening to country with my Dad while when my friends were all listening to boy bands. So I have a love for the classic country artists (Cash & Alabama) and 80s/90s country artists (George Straight, Reba, & Garth). Johnny Cash’s cover of Hurt is great. He puts a whole new spin on the song. I believe the original singer of the song ended up loving Cash’s version a lot. Also, Folsom Prison Blues and Ring of Fire are other classics of his.

Rumor has it that this song was a true story about Martina's sister (Gina Leikes) beating her daughter to death, AGAIN THAT IS NOT TRUE. This song is the true story about Angela Carter a 7 year old girl that was beaten to death by her Grandmother Nana Stacy. The story was changed from the Grandmother to the Mother for this song. The song was written by Stephanie Bentley and Rob Crosby and was released in Nov, 2002.

I fell for that, but then I couldn't find any credible source to back it up. It goes like wildfire in the reaction comments. I know I even wrote it a couple of times before I checked. I tried to backtrack my own comment and was thoroughly told off. 😳 That makes me feel bad for Martina's poor sister who is innocently standing by saying, "Hey, wait a minute!" False origin stories for songs are as old as the songs themselves. The whole Phil Collins myth around "In the Air Tonight" was circulating my middle school when I was a kid. And it's still going around.

Idk if y'all realized that the little boy (her neighbor friend in the window) ended up being her guardian angel...and he was there with all the other angel children at the end...the kids who all died from abuse.

It really makes you wonder how many times she herself had to rehearse this song without breaking down at all to make it in all essence a perfectly touching video. If there's anyone in the world who's already seen this video & isn't phased by it at all, there's something deadly wrong with your brain enough to get it checked out with a psych evaluation.

Another really good one of hers is Wild Angels

Carrie Underwood has a deep song called "Temporary Home." There's a fun group called Home Free that you may wish to check out. They have county roots but sing other genres also. They do a lot of covers but have a number of originals also. If you're familiar with country, you're likely to be familiar with Johnny Cash. They cover his Ring of Fire and also Folsom Prison Blues. They do a great cover of Blake Sheldon's Hillbilly Bone (approved of by Mr. Shelton) and Sold by John Michael Montgomery. Their original "Champaign taste on a Beer Budget" will likely bring a chuckle or two as would their Country-Fried Pop Medley. They also have a loyal and active group of followers called Home Fries who watch for new reactors to discover the group.

It often is because YT pulls the video if there isn’t a reaction (speaking) part. You can’t play a video all the way through. It does interrupt reaction videos but is necessary for the video to stay up.

I enjoyed this reaction, you guys both seem like great guys who would protect a child. Try some Brooks and Dunn for wonderful vocals. "Believe," with the official video has a wonderful message, "The Father, My Son and the Holy Ghost," by Craig Morgan (written after he lost his teenage son), some upbeat choices ... I saw someone else suggest, "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy," Big & Rich and concur - just fun! I think for lighthearted songs, Brad Paisley ... "I'm Gonna Miss Her," "Waitin' On a Woman." Tim McGraw's catalog is FULL of amazing songs, Faith Hill, Trisha Yearwood ... whatever you want, country has it. Have you dived down the Chris Stapleton rabbit hole? I need to go look and see. Have you done Just a Dream from Carrie Underwood? If not you should. Love her voice too.

Martina is amazing and a really nice person as well. I haven't seen a lot of Trisha Yearwood reactions and that needs to be rectified. Walkaway Joe is amazing, She's In Love With The Boy also or Down On My Knees Or oh wait, The Song Remembers when or Every Girl In This Town. I would be interested in hearing your opinion on Pappy. Falling in line with what you said about Blanton's most bourbon lovers will tell you it's really more about the rarity and/or hype rather than the actual taste.

@@Holly_D84 Well, yes. Pappy is made from pure unobtanium. However, because I have some connected friends, I've been able to sample it in three different bottles. The 12, the 20, and the 23. The 12 was good. The 23 was good. But the 20 was unbelievable. I won't hunt for it. But if some falls in m lap, I'll buy it. - Keith
