Makes sense to me. If all the protagonists are female obviously the antagonists has to be male. Knife wielding males are just fulflling their role.

i want to say to the beginning rant that saying other channels tend to cover them better and they already take up sooo much air time in the genre is a very valid reason to avoid covering unless it has a reason for you to cover that you feel is valid to you. you provide sooo much more news that i dont hear versus other places which is why i watch this show every week when i can

Yeah often using the challenge of the game for the story and a lot of the lore and story is revealed in either world design or item descriptions. Cant really do that 1 to 1 in a movie lol. Maybe they could randomly have characters expositioning about every item they find.

I feel that Elden Ring is kind of an exception, the previous games establish past events and there are narrative threads that you can kind of follow back through the history of the setting but Elden Ring almost feels like a sequel to a book set so long ago that the events only tangentially matter (or are barely remembered), and that background could be a good adaptation.

100% its a narrative that works because we're a nameless nobody wandering and slowly piecing together a world. The only quest/ characters I could see making a good adaptation are the followers of Miquella (with the PC largely removed) working together as a band before realizing they've been brainwashed and turning against each other. Could 100% expand the relationships and drama of the fallout there, but beyond that I really don't know what else would remotely work, probably just something Elden Ring inspired vs trying to adapt the game itself.

Re: knifes in the UK. There is a KZread creator and fantasy comedy author, Jill Bearup, who also critiques sword fights in movies. She made a "murder dress" to conceal a knife in a formal gown but made sure to stay on her property with it so she didn't get in trouble.

You might want to check your sources for the dude with the knife. Forbes details his long history of arrest and incarceration for burglaries among other things, there’s no evidence he’s any kind of Zelda fan and a lot of evidence he’s a repeat offender that walked up to police to whom he was likely known with this not toy knife out. I think maybe we have an unusual tolerance for weapons of all kinds in this country.

I hope the Elden Ring movie has a moment where two characters are awkward with each other.

Re: The UK, & knife crime - it's a mad place & the amount of trouble you'll get into varies, I remember seeing a report of a man initially getting a suspended sentence after being filmed trying to smash his way into a car with a "zombie knife", the lenient sentence was challenged & increased to 3.5 years (He'll likely only serve half that). That was with video evidence of him actually trying to harm someone!

dude for me the biggest news is definitely the neil gaiman situation... i feel so bad for his victims and i also couldn't wait for sandman season 2 and good omens season 3, and who knows what is going to happen now... whole situation was a shock to many corners of the fantasy community, so i'm surprised you didn't include it in this

Well, damn. This was the first time I heard about this, so I decided to look up details and bloody hell... He used the most common excuses ever made to justify himself. "She's only saying this because she regrets it" and "She's actually crazy, don't listen to her" even though the woman he claims has a condition that produces "false memories" doesn't have anything of the sort in her medical registry. That's abuser speak 101, the most base attempts at discrediting victims. Not to mention the fact he fully admitted to having relations with his son's babysitter, which by itself is a messed up power imbalance and should not happen under any circumstance.

I'm taking the news with a grain of salt given the source, until the police see their investigation through. I've yet to see any credible outlet corroborate the information, and I simply can't trust boris johnson's sister who has had previous disagreements w gaiman

October is the start of the last quarter of the most widely followed fiscal year, so that's probably why things use that as a placeholder date pretty often.

War elephants were actually very very useful, they were used by the Mughal empire and other Indian empires and kingdoms heavily, they used to be the tanks during that age. You should check out the elephant armour used by the Mughals for their war elephants, that’s epic stuff.

He was walking around holding a 6” sharp blade in a country that has laws about anything over 3”. You can’t bend the law because some says “I wasn’t going to stab anyone, promise”. There are plenty of less stupid things he could have used as a fidget toy.

Yeah that Master Sword did not look like a good “fidget toy”. Even if it’s dull it still doesn’t look all that suitable for fidgeting, it’s just too large. As someone who with a long history of fidgeting with things, I’m talking from experience.

I understand booktube's desire to avoid controversy by not talking about the Neil Gaiman situation, but it really needs to be talked about. Whether the allegations are true or not, what hes admitted to in the one puts him in a very questionable light and his works should not shield him.

Earlier comment seems to have gotten deleted somehow unfortunately but just to give some not insignificant context to the master sword story, the person put in jail was a repeat offender with a long rap sheet of burglaries and extended prison time in his past. The master sword replica was also not dull but sharpened to an edge. Both obviously very large contributing facts as to why the police took this particular incedent so seriously.

i'm in what was once known as the 'knife crime capital of europe' in the UK and the master sword story is ridiculous. police here know (or should know) what proper knives are, and what are dangerous. and these fidget toys are legally sold in shops here. i got similarly pulled up for a buster sword keychain about the same size that i forgot i had on my housekeys when going through airport security (looked like a stanley knife on the scanners) and the moment they pulled it out they just laughed it off cos it was immediately obvious it wasn't going to be used for anything. i just made sure not to keep it on me while travelling anymore.

I completely agree with your take on Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars, even though I was born in the 80s and grew up on those franchises. I'm not a fan of how Disney has handled those franchises after Endgame, but even if I were, I agree they take up far too much air. At my core, I'm an Epic Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Anime fan, so I appreciate you for spotlighting franchises that don't get as much conversation. Thanks, brother!

Phantasy Star TTRPG might just be nostalgia bait, but it has a special place in the hearts of hardcore JRPG fans. Always loved that we have a very early example of a protagonist that is not a "chosen one"(she's just a regular person), is not out to "save the world"(all she wants is revenge)... She broke away from the stereotypes right away.

Books default to October because that's the start of the fiscal quarter that makes up the end up the year. If all you've got it "end of the year" estimates, that's what you go with, So by default things will go with January, April, July, and October. Especially in book publishing when you have to have things solicited up to a year in advance. If its off by a month or two that's still within the expected window of that quarter. (Comic books meanwhile are 4 months in advance.) If they *really* don't know when something is going to be out and suspect it won't actually be this year and is likely to be pushed back, they'll slot it for December 31.

the only kind of fromsoft adaption i'd want is like ... an encyclopedia of sorts for their games. but a movie or a tv show? i can just imagine how terrible it'd be. but grrm likes shows / films more than anything apparently, so it seems whatever is attached to his name is probably going to get some kind of soulless adaption. grrm seems to like quantity over quality.

I saw somewhere that the guy who got arrested for the Master Sword was apparently a serial robber and had served like four years previously. It's still overkill, but I guess you can see why the police freaked out... (I'd also need a source for that. I don't have it right now.)

Adapting Elden Ring, a game known for its very sparse narrative experience and beloved for its player-controlled action and art style, is peak Hollywood decision making. They just don't understand why people love something and they think they can just shove any property through their office shredder and it'll somehow turn out not garbage? Adapting Dark Souls or Bloodborne would be a better idea, frankly, as those have a more streamlined story at least (Bloodborne would be a great idea honestly)
