That makes sense! A lot of Derren's magic relies on how suggestible people are.

Took a fraction longer than I'd expect to turn out the first pocket 🤔

I watched showman on Thursday night.. Best show I have ever seen. Go watch it if you can

‘ whisk ‘ is actually a by-default & invisible also not always necessarily “ random “ as choice. 🧠

My theory is he has so much sort of thing on his thumb that allows him to write. Once he is give me the item he can feel and he quickly writes it with his thumb as he is holding it.

Mr. Brown is a hacker who specializes in meatbag systems. His understanding of the mind is beyond me.

time, counting and sound for the "mentalist". also shadow lengths and direction for the chooser.. its not the object as much as the objects position. Derren would not put himself center of the room unless he got 360 audio. all the objects were spaced at least one stride away. counting strides is easy. hearing direction is easy. to predict (to written card) is easy. just because the pockets were 'empty',doesn't mean all the pockets 'layers' were revealed (several pockets in one pocket 'hole'). theres an enormous amount of of places to hide a card in clothing. say.. perhaps inside a sock. or inside a shoe. or under the innersole of shoe. yes it takes massive dedication and training... meticulous... and above all that.. editing out the failed attempts.

@@Palmit_ I don't believe the location of the whisk is the keystone signifier, as Martin walks in different directions, picks up & puts down false selections, and even does a dummy stoop, toward the end. So even with direction, and counting, the selected object could be interchanged along his route. Multiple concealed prediction cards is an option, but he removed the card, before the object was placed in his hand (giving a tactile indicator). I suspect there wasn't multi-cards, because he would still have to know what object was selected, to know what card to produce. Perhaps a peek, through, or under the blindfold(?). Now if he gives Martin the prediction for his pocket 1st, then he goes and selects, this is a better trick. The order of operations makes me think the card could've been written after the selection was made, in response (lotto style). This would need info to be fed (ear piece in blindfold/codified grid ref from crew confederate). It is a feature that the primary light source IS in the corner; & shadows may be used to guide Martin . Arrows & hotspots. Also, we don't see any potential linguistic priming, before "Action". And yes, editing out the fails. Like the message in The Syndicate. I think: Info relayed after selection - card then scribed stealthily. Or, influenced off-set for that 'conveniently placed, familiar, outlier....' I love Derren. I don't know how it's done. & this is the 1st thing I've ever written on KZread.

@@CrotSpot Thanks for taking time. Some very good considerations there. We all agree, it's a trick. As a mentalist, Derren may have 'primed', Martin before recording even commenced. Background sounds, smells and imagery all play a part. As well as informal conversation with the crew. EG: false advert on the tube, for say.. lemon juice on pancake day. Then exiting the station, a sandwich-board person with headline : "conservatives chief Whip resigns" .. the most obvious, but then it could be more subtle..strategically placed plant reading a mazagine which has a big egg on the cover. Then the smells of a street vendor. he could be selling coffee, but also cooking pancakes to get the waft out into the air... nobody has to know whats being made only whats being sold. Staff using keywords " Hi Martin, Thanks for coming in. "How was your journey?" (makes him think of the journey.. and the influences).. Ok.. i think they are ready for you. Sorry for the wait.. i'll just whisk you off to the studio and let them take care of you.... Sorry i have to dash, i've got to beat the lunchtime rush to to the sandwich shop or i'll be in trouble if i'm late back "... you all those knd of things.. and countless songs that could be played all pointing toward .. WHISK. .. but all the steps counting etc.

Maybe same as with the horse betting, combined with some other tricks to increase the chance to get it right.

Derren - you've been very naughty with this video, because you haven't included the beginning part where you meet Martin and chat to him for a while.

I think I know how he did it. The card is actually a computer that prints out letters to look like regular printing. Once he picked the object someone behind the scenes just typed it in and it appeared on the card. The guy never actually examined the card, just saw the word. I think he did the lottery prediction with the balls the same way. If it were me I'd say let me have that card, and I'd examine it thoroughly. That's the reason Derren would never pick me for anything. The old fashioned way to do this is to have a tiny headset where the assistant tells him the object and he just repeats it. This was common in older psychic shows.
