Well, I've watched a video on YT about a guy trying to tackle and BJJ a criminal. Guess what, the criminal wasn't alone (like always) and unfortunately both kil*ed the martial artist while his friends ran away. So yeah, most sport martial arts don't work in the streets. Even self defense arts have trouble. Yes, you can use "no rules" moves anyway but your brain won't react immediately using techniques you're not used to use, especially in a chaotic real life threat situation. Talking from experience. If you think you can use boxing against a knife, you're delusional.

But then again, some martial arts allow you to use weapons for self defense such as pepper spray, foldable batons, weighted knuckle gloves exists. However, as always, it's best to get the fuck outta there as soon as you can.

I mean... that's pretty accurate to how people claim things online. Either it is you will be shot or it is it would take far too long for you to take out your gun... But considering _Mad Jack Churchill_ fought in WW2 with a fucking sword, bow and arrow, I would say that while shooting someone with a sword sounds simple, sometimes a guy running at you with a sword while you hold a far more deadlier weapon in your hand, could become difficult, through a mixture of confusion and fear.

@@oru_malayaleezombie7329 Listen man, if someone wants to attack you and you don't see it coming, then unless you have a suit of armor there's no guarentee you're going to not get hurt. But training can increase your odds of not getting hurt, or even enable you to fight back. Personally I just think self-defense training is cool, so I do it for fun. But it's always handy to know.

As a black belt in Karate, I can tell you I was trained supremely well for the streets. *Reaches down and slaps one of my legs.* You see these bad boys here have been conditioned to kick, flex, and move my body around in ways most folks just cannot replicate. Actually, something like this happened to me once. I got very lucky. Bunch of dudes hopped up on drugs thought they’d try to fight a complete stranger for no reason. Main guy sucker punched the 🦆 out of me. Then he tried to ko me with a huge 🦆 -off haymaker, but I ducked under his throw and he fell. I raised my foot above his head and threatened to smash his skull if the other guys didn’t back off. I the Bruce Lee “game of death look in my eyes” The cowards ran away throwing beer bottles at me and 💩 That’s the first time in my life I ever saw another man have true fear in their eyes because… Because I made sure there was no way to mistake my intentions. I would’ve done what I had to do to survive.

The gag about an undrawn gun and a knife is on point though. There was some test and it showed that you needed about 20-yards IIRC to fully draw the weapon, get the safety off, and shoot if they were sprinting at you with a knife.

As a man with an older sister, that kick is just as effective on women as it is on men.

Except that it's accurate for a lot of those. Spending all your time training in a martial art, which is designed specifically to counter a sparring partner who is trained to use the exact same techniques and moves is not the best way to prepare for dealing with someone who is coming at you full force with intent to kill. That's not to say they don't help, but most of them are genuinely designed for an arena fight rather then an actual street brawl, so you'd still be at a disadvantage against someone who has been in lots of actual fights, unless you are armed with better weapons. So there is some truth to this. Martial arts.are far from being perfect for self defense. They are better then nothing, but honestly you're much better off simply carrying some kind of defensive item or weapon. Ideally, taking a gun safety course and purchasing one would be your best option, but tazer, pepper spray, or even a knife would be better at protecting you then martial arts. Of course, you can always do both.

Your entire argument is "I get you have martial arts, but what if the opponent has more experience/weapons/friends" like... No shit. Why doesn't the martial artist ever have more experience or more weapons or friends? What makes the argument stupid is that it's: Martial artist thats never been in a street fight vs someone who has been in many street fights and is armed. Yeah, in that scenario armed person wins but your argument is just "What if somebody better than you with advantages comes" like dude martial arts or none you're screwed. In a fight of similar weight, both unarmed and no friends (which comes up surprisingly often) the martial artist will beat a normal person 8/10 times. Yoyr entire argument is nerfing a martial artist and putting them in an impossible situation, then saying it doesn't work. It's like saying "practice doesn't help your drawing skills if i take away your pencil and paper, a normal person with art tutorials and equipment will make better art than an artist with no paper or pencil or anything!!" Like, yeah, its not fucking magic, its for an equal scenario. *Edit: Also, "get a weapon" is your advice? No fucking shit, you don't always have a weapon. Martial arts excels in schools, where weapons are limited, friends don't help much because they don't wanna get in trouble, and you're guaranteed similar age. What, you gonna tell a student thats worried about their safety to get a damn gun? A knife? 2$ Walmart pepper spray? And don't start with "report to teacher" because it's been proven teachers and staff very often ignore threats like this.

My self defense plan is as follows: I have a .38 Special Ruger LCR in my right coat pocket, and a 1911 in my open carry hip holster on the left. I'd try to talk it out, reveal the (still holstered) 1911 to draw attention to the big scary gun, before blasting the assailant with the pocket Ruger. If the guy isn't down by then, then I use the 1911 to finish the job. If he is still not down by THEN, then 9 rounds of 9mm and 5 rounds of .38 makes a guy kinda slow, and I can work with that.

First thing my Sensei taught me was to avoid confrontations. Any good martial artist will tell you to try to get out of the situation by running away. If you're cornered then you fight. But when I was a young girl, I will tell you that when I had to fight I fought dirty. Anything went.

This is why I train no touch knock out. I channel my ki through a friend that can then absorb the attacks while I then project that ki into the attacker disabling them... unless their tongue and big toe aren't in correct alignment.

the point is that it's extremely situational, ao anything can happen at any moment. some stuff is more likely to work than other, but in never has 100% efficiency rate. unless you have teleportation and a VTOL, that is.

This is a good reminder that society attack is worse than physical attack
