Martha Argerich : Ravel concerto in G Major (Orchestre National de France)

Музыка

Martha Argerich plays Maurice Ravel's Piano Concerto in G Major, composed on 1929 - 1931, with the Orchestre national de France conducted by Emmanuel Krivine. Live recording on October 5th 2017 in the auditorium of Radio France (Paris).
The composition of Ravel's Piano Concerto in G Major is contemporary of his Piano Concerto for the Left Hand, in 1929. The first one is "solar and turbulent" when the second is "dark and desperate" says the musicologist Nicolas Southon.
In the same time poetic, aerial and formal, the work refers to two masters of piano concertos. In the second movement, Ravel is inspired by the Larghetto of the Mozart's clarinet quintet, composer who remains the main reference in terms of classical forms. He is also influenced by the music of Saint-Saëns, model of virtuosity and pianistic brightness, and by Liszt, with his first Piano Concerto.
The structure is very classical, with three movements (Allegramente, Adagio assai and, but the composition is in fact modern, with many jazz influences , particularly in the two last movements. The Adagio looks improvised, it uses the Blue Note, reminding the symphonic jazz of Gershwin. The Presto mixes jazz and folklore in a frantic race between the piano and the orchestra.
