Thank you so much for covering this topic! I was hoping you would teach us about this strange and visually disturbing flag, and its true origin. I'm hoping my other favorite pastor, "Pastor Jane" who leads the United Methodist Church in Palm Springs, California, also speaks on this topic. The congregation of that church includes many of us "rainbow" people, people of every level of skin pigment AND every spectrum of sexuality. In the past she has given wonderful sermons on topics such as "white fragility" and has spoken up for some of the most forgotten people; those who are in hospice, dying from AIDS related illness who have been abandoned by their birth families. Members of this church visit and are physically present with these children of God as they pass from this world. She doesn't focus on the disease that prematurely ends too many lives, she speaks of the character and love of these people, and who they truly are and what joy they have brought to others during their lifetimes. To truly _know_ Jesus is to reject all hate towards our fellow humans. I love you, Reverend Ed, and I am so grateful that you choose to share your messages to a world who needs the lessons of Love that you bring to us. I'm also grateful to Beau of the Fifth Column, for introducing your channel to me.💜🖤🤍💟

I believe the monthly cost of $3,000 for a Sacred Heart billboard would do a far better job of representing Christ Jesus if it were used for caring for the poor, orphan, & widow, healing the sick & brokenhearted, & welcoming the stranger. 😊

I would say my issue is political more than religious.....other than as stated the horse trading and jockeying for power makes them heretics to in my eyes. But I am also low church and am not all that familiar with some Catholic institutions like this one. But I think I will say that weaponizing anything that speaks of love to scare people into belief is just nasty....but it matches my views of Evangelicals.....in that I believe that they wish to use the Bible to beat people into believing.

I have to be honest, I find Mrs. Alito's plan to hoist a Sacred Heart of Jesus flag to "counter" the Pride flag to be incredibly hypocritical and tone deaf. I almost wish that the people with the Pride flag across the lagoon(!) would hoist a Sacred Heart of Jesus flag right along side the Pride flag because that is precisely what the Sacred Heart of Jesus is about. Overflowing love, for EVERYONE!

I’m Catholic and have no idea when we became the “poor victims” of Pride Month. The Feast of the Sacred Heart is a time to stop and to try to grow our relationship with Christ. It irritates me to no end that lashing out at others in any way has become part of that. Anything the Catholic Church is going through, as best as I can tell, we have brought upon ourselves by building walls of silence and protection around abusive people.

My grandfather was Catholic. My father’s stepfather, to be more precise. His sister was a nun, even. My grandfather hoisted a navy flag at his house, even though he served in the Army, because my father and later me, served in the Navy. If he would have known I was bisexual, he would have hoisted a pride flag right along with the other flags, regardless of what anyone thought. That, to me at least, is what Catholic virtue looks like. I met John Paul II in 1984 when I was seeking a papal blessing for my grandfather. It amazed the clerk at the Vatican so much that a non-Catholic was requesting it for a Catholic that it caused quite a commotion. I think it even genuinely shocked the Pope that I wasn’t doing it for a Catholic, but rather for my grandfather, who just happened to be a Catholic. Something about the simplicity of it made him laugh. Catholics aren’t bad people. Even the ones who are bad people are still human. There is nothing wrong with being human. Don’t judge them too harshly for the wolves hiding in the flock.

Don't get me wrong: She's _acting_ like a privileged nut-job -- but her character is not her true spirit. Only God knows her intimately enough to judge how cracked that nut _truly_ is, so we get the opportunity to grow through it (deal with the consequences of her behavior; oh yay). If you can zoom out far enough, you'll see that she's simply acting out the stuff our collective consciousness wants to solve, in order to evolve. We will end up with gratitude _(gasp!)_ for her. True story 😁.

That seems applicable to this current reporting.*

Have you ever been at a party and you're at the peak of your drunkenness and you end up hugging and kissing everyone telling them how much you love them? This is an artificially induced state of consciousness for sure but it gives a glimpse into the possibility for unconditional love and that state of rapture that can be experienced if one can become with drunk with God. I feel sorry for people like Mrs. Alito, who's heart is filled with such pain and sorrow, even though she lives a life of such privilege and luxury, that she has to satisfy herself by hating on other people.

@@onbearfeet Thank you! Funny that you should mention garlic bread... Yesterday was my son's 32nd birthday, and I cooked a special meal to celebrate. Cooking is one of my favorite ways to express love. I even make my dog's food from scratch. Probably why he's still healthy and playful at 13 years old. We had linguine with fresh portobello mushrooms and spinach in a garlicky cream sauce, with homemade garlic knots (my favorite way to make garlic bread). For dessert, I made cake of course. I tried something new, a recipe I remember from childhood, a Campbell's tomato soup cake. Sounds weird, but it's one of the most delicious cakes I've ever eaten. It doesn't taste like tomato at all, more like spice cake. I frosted it with an obscene amount of fluffy cream cheese frosting flavored with vanilla and a hint of lemon. I hadn't realized until just now, that's probably the most Ace meal I've ever made! He loved it, and that makes me very happy.😻

To read that the beloved image of a Loving God I grew up with is being used as a bludgeon broke my heart. It is the very antithesis of the Sacred Heart's message & teachings. How ironic, how beautiful, that the Love illustrated in the image of the Sacred Heart also pours onto those who would use it as a weapon. ❤

Well said Father Ed. Though I don't go to mass anymore, as a person who was raised a Catholic I know that Martha Ann Alito should be ashamed of herself for using the symbol of the Sacred Heart of Jesus as a prop for her campaign of hatred against her anti-Trump neighbors and the gay people "across the lagoon." When I heard her on tape I was horrified. Listening to Mrs Alito's rant, millions of non-Catholics might now conclude that the precious symbol of our Lord's love for humanity is a political banner to be wielded against the LGBTQ community -- which it most emphatically is not. Your commentary was really interesting. And your beautiful description of the Sacred Heart moved me. Blessings to you, from Sault Ste Marie.

You! Rev Ed Trevors are a treat for my heart when you explain things the way you do. This was one of the most beautiful short sermons I have had the JOY of hearing. Joy As in enJOYment. I am not part of the Anglican church; high or low. Raised in the Presbyterian church before there was a division of the Presbyterian church. I was always drawn to the hymns and other music as a wonderful and beautiful way of spreading the story of the bible; both old and new testament. I witnessed the bravery of several church ladies going to Selma to join in the march. I witnessed the cowerdness of the old ladies hiding behind their fans when black marchers were invited to visit our little country church. Their husbands loudly blowing their noses when the choir led the congregation in singing "We Shall Overcome!" Complaining to the minister when the youth choir sang "Kum-by=ya" on a Sunday morning. You stand out as special because you so easily walk us thru difficult, confusing Scripture or Christian ideas such as you so completely did just now. Thank you again for being here for us.

Here I am to comment again about your message. 😊 I am so glad you are talking about this devotion that Mrs. Alito has brought to the attention of the media with those statements. I felt revolted when I read about what she said. I grew up in the Roman Catholic Churh and my mother and sister participate of the Sacred Heart devotion. It is so hipocritical and wrong to use a simbol of a devotion dedícated to Jesús"s love for us, to protest and signal out other human beings, ignoring that they are also covered by Jesus love. We all are! Thank you for the dedication, the time and the love you put into researching and bringing to light how deviated and wrong it is what Mrs. Alito pretends to do and imply by her statement. Thanks for sharing and highlighting Jesús's message of love, compassion and unity. God bless you! 🙏😇♥️

Thank you for your research and video. As a high-church Episcopalian, I wanted to first make it very clear that it is possible to hold the traditions and symbols with devotion, while still holding progressive beliefs that God and Jesus love everybody, and that everyone is welcome. The Sacred Heart of Jesus holds special meaning for me, and to hear that someone would use it as a weapon rather than as the message of love that it is intended to be was very painful for me. I pray that those who would weaponize this image/symbol would finally feel the love the God has for them. They'd never be able to use it as a weapon again.

My best friend, Rosie, belonged to a "high church" Episcopalian church. We were both "sporty" girls who did not dress in feminine clothes, didn't like shopping malls, or wearing makeup. Our classmates assumed we were gay, though we rarely spoke about sex at all except to agree that it's "YUCK". After high school graduation, she married a gay man who was 15 years her senior. They had two wonderful children, and they had the most successful, endearing marriage and partnership of any of my classmates! They started an advertising business together, and I worked with them as a graphic artist. Those were some of the best years of my life. They are both dead now, Rosie went first about 12 years ago, her devoted husband passed a few months later. Both gone too soon, but I'm glad they are together. They were married in her High Episcopal church, and their children were both christened there. I am her daughter's Godmother, and I sewed her christening gown. I am embarrassed that I fainted during the Christening ceremony, I had never experienced "high church" ceremony, and it was overwhelming!☺😳😵 It was a lovely experience though. The priest and other church members were so kind to me. I got the sense that the priest understood their non-traditional relationship well, and that he 100% approved of their love and devotion to each other. Today I know that Rosie and I are/were asexual, and always were since childhood. I just didn't know there was a place on the sexual spectrum for people like us who simply do not experience libido. Ace people are still often misunderstood, and I'm often told that "sexual attraction and urges" are the one thing shared by all humans. Not true! I don't know what "sexual desire" would feel like, because when I meet an attractive person, getting naked with them is the _LAST_ thing I think of.😒🤢 I'm that person who goes to the restroom during movies every time the gratuitous "sex scene" starts because I know I won't miss anything important to the plot. It's usually thrown in just to make sure the movie gets an R rating.😏 I used to explain my nature as, "You know how small children are grossed out by "kissing scenes" in movies, and call it "gross"? I'm just one of those kids who never outgrew that opinion."😉

I have an acquaintance who is RC and Republican. She is perpetually upset by the rainbow being used as a symbol of Pride, that it "sullies" the rainbow, especially since its a symbol of G-ds promise not to wipe out the human race again via flood and that SHE cant wear the rainbow because it now stands for "those people." Where do I begin with her (not that I'm going to even try; its futile)? The rainbow is a natural phenomenon, it was here before "the Flood", and such stories were made up to try to explain the unexplainable .That a flood that spanned the world at all at that time, much less sent by G-d, is ridiculous. Granted, global warming might eventually do it (thanks, Republicans, for rolling back EPA protections 🙄)... If you believe in G-d, then you have to acknowledge that "those people" were put here by G-d too. They are not ped0philes, trans people are not going to do nefarious things in "your" public restroom; they just want to relieve their bladder in peace, like the rest of us. Last time I heard, that is still a G-d given right. You're more likely to confront a nefarious youth minister or senator in the restroom than a nefarious trans person. Sometimes, I just want to tell her that there's plenty of rainbow to go around. Maybe she can have a rainbow something-or-other as long as she wears her red hat (handy way to pick HER kind out) and has her husband with her so that she will not be accused as being "one of them". But then, I dont exactly see millions of bigoted fashionistas swooning over the fact they can no longer wear a rainbow either. Now I'm off to pick out my rainbow accoutrement of the day, as a straight, Southern ally who lives in one of the few Blue cities in Texas... Cheers, y'all! 🌈❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜

We are taught to love. We are taught to help one another heal. The message the Bible teaches is acceptance and compassion. It says we are to love each. There are no conditions or qualifiers. My message is for all the Martha Alitos out there. The Sacred Heart of Jesus is one of the most beautiful messages. To Martha Alito and all who think like her, please fly your Sacred Heart of Jesus flag high, and please look at it and meditate on it every day. I pray the true meaning behind that image can burn through your limited human ego which creates all the fear and judgement that constrains your soul’s heart. I pray that the love behind that image flows deeply into your heart and overflows outside of you onto others, including those beautiful people across the lagoon who seem to upset you so much for just being themselves on their own property. Once you truly understand your flag, you will then begin to understand the Pride flag. I do believe symbols make us think and it would take someone with a truly hard heart to look at the Sacred Heart of Jesus image everyday and not be changed in a positive way by the meaning and energy that resonates from it. I would happily fly both flags side by side. The next time I decide to fly my Pride flag, I’ll make sure my Sacred Heart of Jesus flag is right beside it. Another excellent video. I enjoy your teachings very much.

Just as I was taught in Sunday School, the rainbow --and the Pride flag--remind me of hope, that the storm has receded, that there'll be better times ahead when people like my wife and me will be respected and loved, not despite who we are but because we are just as much Our Lord's beloved children as anyone else. The sacred heart of Jesus is a reminder of the depth and totality of that love. What better combination could there be? I had to laugh a little at your description of Highy Church and Low Church. We have one of each type in our town, and when she was young our daughter referred to them as "Fancy Church" and "Our Church."

I stumbled on your channel and listen regularly. I am not a believer in the supernatural--mostly since being driven away from Christianity by the amount of hate that seemed so deeply embedded in everything from them at every turn. While I'm not convinced God exists, I am convinced there would be a lot more people who call themselves Christians if they saw the love for all people that you show when they saw Christians. I never imegined hate and Jesus together--but it has become impossible for me not to imagine hate and Christians as being nearly one and the same--with several notable exceptions--you being one.

I guess these are the same people who antagonistically growl, “MERRY CHRISTMAS!” in December. What a sad existence. I am not a Christian, although I am quite familiar and in agreement that the path of Jesus is a good one to work at following. It amazes me when people who are Christians, proclaim it, and also proclaim they have been saved, and yet hurl so much vitriol in judgement of others. An Evangelical friend of mine, when I asked her about this anger and fear that seems to go with it from these supposed “saved Christians,” told me that, sadly, some people simply don’t get the Grace. Odd. As a non Christian who has an abiding faith in God, how is it that so many of us supposed “sinners” get Grace and so many who pose themselves as “members of the Jesus Club” have such turmoil in their brains. I can’t imagine willingly living that way. Especially if I believed myself to be “saved.”

I was raised Sacred Heart and it represents the divine wellspring of love, the source from which flows an abundance of compassion, mercy and grace. It is the heart that symbolizes the core of Jesus's message of love God above all and love your neighbours as yourself. Jesus says, love one another, inspire others and give comfort. Flying a Sacred Heart flag is acceptance of the pride flag. These people do not understand Sacred Heart.
