    @@Chuggsbigman Yeah, I have this model, and the scale length obviously is quite something to get used to, but it's worth it to have that massive tone. And even with this length, it's borderline muddy. I can't understand how 8-strings are commonly 27 inches, it seems the 29,4 is pretty much required for the tone to hold up at all.

    Chuggsbigman Nah. Architects tunes to F# on their lowest 6th string on a 25.5” scale guitar (Josh Middleton) and it sounds great. It’s all preference. I’m honestly surprised Ibanez ever green lit a guitar like this for production. I guess I’m biased since I’m not a big baritone fan to begin with but nearly 30” is borderline unplayable as a guitar for most styles unless you want to only cover Meshuggah and Meshuggah-esque styles of metal.

    I demo'd this guitar today to see if it was worth the price, after already spending $900 on an Ibanez 7 String Iron Label RGIR27FE which i've now had for over a year and its been my one and only guitar after getting rid of my old starter strat copy. It's absolutely worth it, it's huge but lighter than i thought, a Gibson Les Paul is heavier than this still, and even with a 5 second tweak on the amp in the shop the tone was already beast. Its not muddy even with the factory half step downtuning, and after 5 minutes i was already convinced enough to put a deposit on one at $1800 So keen to shred on this beastly instrument, hopefully my Blackstar ID 15 TVP can do it justice, or I'm about to get a serious case of Gear Acquirement Syndrome

  • @MFKR696

    @MFKR696

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Jason Yonda To put it simply, in some ways, the M80M is light-years beyond the 7421, but it also only has one pickup and one volume. It's not the best if you are looking for versatility, but it excels at what it was made for, which is crystal-clear rhythm playing at the brown-note. The neck is pretty much the longest one you can find in a baritone guitar, which gives you insane clarity, but also makes it way harder to play than a 7421. It's somewhere in between your guitar and a bass. Personally, I'd get a further mastery of the 7-banger before you try moving on to 8. It feels alot weirder to transition from 7 to 8 than from 6 to 7. With the two extra strings, it kinda throws your mind for a loop when you're trying to play stuff that wasn't intended for an 8-string, which I do quite a bit on mine, since the tones are so brutal. I absolutely love Lundgren p/ups. They kick the crap out of SD and Dimarzio, that's for sure.

  • @vanweapon

    I will definitely agree, my Ibanez 7 string RG is basically a different instrument in comparison, the frets on the m80m are way spaced apart, making shred playing very difficult, but youre right too, the chugs are super crisp which is very necessary for the technical rhythm playing of meshuggah and similar bands

    Thats kinda what they are after, especially in their newer work. Their main appeal is the 4/4 beat against polyrhythmic time signatures which cannot be broken down within the 4/4 and are notably very variable in their notation within it. Some melodious moments found in songs such as the Bleed solo and Straws pulled at random are some of the most iconic in their musicianship. At best, it swings between dissonance and harmony at their preferred pace.

    interesting, didn't know about that schecter 30", would have to hear how it sounds as it doesn't seem setup for the heavier styles. I would still prefer an 8 string myself so I can have standard tuning on the higher 6 strings and the extra two lower strings when needed but I guess if you have tiny hands and find an 8 string too big then something like this schecter with decent pickups could be an option.

    WAIT, everyone complained about the pricing of the original model being overpriced so they bring out a cheaper version with the same features pretty much and everyone laughs and moan about it....... I think i might pick one of these up :)

    "...its actually gonna cost a bit less which is really really good..." Cause 8k for a very minimalistic guitar in a very specific market isn't is nuts at all Ibanez (who do have some of the lowest costs for guitar dealers of any guitar manufacterer )

    i sometimes like to listen to death metal when im in an energetic "hardcore" mood. though im not a huge fan of meshuggah, its all about the mood. i like all types of music, it just depends on how im feeling at the moment. everything from jazz and classical to the occasional dubstep song can be enjoyed with the right mindset.

    i gonna buy a 7 string, not for the low tunings, just for soloing and sweep stuff on the higher frets, i barly play anything lower than standard c more like d, if i buy a 8 string its will be like 7 striing with a extra higher string

    Yeah fo'real, I mean most of us started learning on one string then moved to others, some went to 6 some went to 7 and 8, these guys have enough talent to make entire compositions on 1 string, within 3 frets. It's insane!!

    Exactly! I've been playing for 3 years now and I still play with my Axl Mosque that I paid around 170 dollars 4 years ago. Kids these days think they need high end equipment to play good, but unless you think about making money it's not worth buying expensive stuff imo.

    Yeah you loose a lot of mid range with a bolt on neck. Plus the heel of the neck will be tapered differently so would feel less comfortable to play in some positions.

    Try counting MOST of their songs in 4/4, You CAN do it or you can use different time signatures or you could just skip the counting and pick out certain phrases (and yes you still require a pulse but then just nod your head and you will get it or just count to one all the time) It works! ;)
