Marshall Major III Headband and Earpad Replacement

Update: The process is entirely the same for the Marshall Major IV aside from the battery having 3 pins. Thanks to @berkaygirgin for this tip! See pinned comment below
Gave my wife a pair of Marshall Major III for Christmas of 2018 I think, so this one's been through quite a lot, and the PU leather headband and earpads were already peeling, which is why my wife hasn't been using this recently. Normally you'd have to bring it in for repairs, but it turns out all the skills I gained from building drones were more than enough for this surprisingly simple replacement!
For the soldering iron I used, I used the TS100, but it's already phased out in favor of it's newer brother the TS101:

Thanks for the video, it was very helpful. 1. I highly recommend disconnecting the battery from the board first just in case. 2. You only have to remove the pin for the left side. 3. No need to remove the square board, plus helps holding it when soldering wires on and off. 4. When inserting the new headband, fold the wires back and insert all together. No need for the paint brush guide.

Could be forced obsolescence. Or it could be just the lifespan of any product with PU leather parts, which really doesn't last too long. The non PU leather parts are still solid though. My opinion is if it's your stuff bought with your hard earned money, you should have the right to repair, or throw away, as you please.

Maybe it's stuck, but that's the only way. Apply more force carefully.

@@ImaginationTechI checked on used market. All of them are f*cked. I asked for some white once how old they are. Only 3-4years. You kiding me!!? I bought original Edifier STAX s3 BT with planar driver and real lam leather for 150Fr. !!! If so, I would only buy the fake once, they might be better except the lack of aptX and AAC that is missing 😢

The title needs to read, soldering iron and skills required! Simply a terrible design by a premium-priced company!

You'll be fine, the electronics on the Marshall isn't too hard. You could fine some old broken electronics to practice on, but once you get the hang of it, soldering is going to be a useful skill.

Извините за поздний ответ, мне пришлось перевести его на моем рабочем столе. Да, вы правы, есть и другие способы сделать это, особенно если у вас есть навыки и творческий подход. Но для остальных из нас это единственный выход. :) Sorry for the late reply, I had to translate it on my desktop. Yeah, you are right there are other ways to do this especially if you have some skills and creativy. But for the rest of us, this is the only way to go. :)

Как сложно поменять просто ободок. Бред полнейший. Все надо вытаскивать и разъединять мелкие частицы. Простому человеку очень сложно не имея инструментов. Полная фигня….. очень обидно
