I played a JCM 800 for years. It's a lot more versatile than most people think.
Dude so many people are demo’ing amps through UA Ox boxes now with simulated cabs it’s really hard to get an idea of what things actually sound like. Love your channel because you don’t do that and what we hear in your recordings even though it’s through KZread, is authentic and pretty much what you are going to get. Just want to say thank you man and you rock brother! 🙏🏻💪🏻🤘🏻

i completely agree... but i think what it mostly means is recording a cab properly is not that. you see some demos with a 57 right in the center of the cone which sound horribly bright, etc.

I know right. Never watched this channel before but fuck me it's nice to see thing used for what it's supposed to be used for. I get tired of everyone playing blues licks and talking about how well amps clean up. It's not that kind of amp! Yet 90% of reviews do just that
Sounds awesome. And that Gretsch Falcon Richard Fortus' signature looks and sound great too. Love your playing on all this, I like how tight you play the rhythm stuff.
Your playing and tones sound absolutely killer! That gretsch is something special.
Love that Mastodon riff!! Awesome vid as usual

I picked up one of these a few months back and was just looking for videos for tone setting tips when I came across this.
Sounds glorious! Awesome playing too as usual
I had never heard of Drab Majesty before but loved the chords and tone so much I looked up Dot in the Sky and now have gone through their whole catalog and am hooked!
Cool intro. ☮️ I gotta get one of these! I’m digging the mini-versions of these classic amps coming-out. Perfect for project studios.
Awesome playing as always! A big heck yeah for Dot in the Sky, sounds great on the Gretsch
Fantastic demonstration of an amp I bought a couple weeks ago and need time to dial-in...thanks a bunch Zach!
That 'Give Me One Good Reason' playthrough 👌
That deftones riff got me. It’s the first song I heard from them back in the day and I was hooked. Great playing as always dude

Loving the darkness tunes! Cool little amp for sure
One of many things that attracted me to buying my Friedman BE and SmallBox is being able to get those great tones at a manageable volume, even with 50 and 100 watt amps. Although I've always wanted a JCM 800 and have had my eye on this amp for the reasons you mentioned. It's on my radar, but I haven't quite committed yet. Nice playing and good information. Amp sounds real good.

Thanks so much for the kind words. Friedman amps have the best master volume on the market in my opinion. Good stuff.
Excellent video showing a wide range of this amp's capabilities! I have one and i'm very happy with it. Your drummer must pound like the incredible hulk because these are pretty loud, almost a little too loud for a basement. I absolutely love that beautiful black Gretsch, and it sounds killer through the SC20.
Commented just because you played Riff Raff. Awesome sounds!
Totally caught me by surprise when you played Give Me One Good Reason.. such a catchy riff though 👊
Killer as always dude! Man, I'd love to see what you can do with the Orange Rockerverb 50 MkIII, the old Thunderverb and so on. All of the Mastodon riffs... Also, slow car fast anology = best analogy.
Perfect timing. I’ve been thinking about the little fella since all retailers can’t seem to get the big boy.
You did something that VERY few other people have done with this amp, and that's show off the clean channel, which I thought was non-existent until this video. WOW. It sounded great with that strat! I'm trying to get the Nuno Bettencourt tone (from the 1st Extreme album) at bedroom volumes, which he apparently go by hitting a JCM800 with a RAT pedal. I can handle that part of it (if it truly has those 800 characteristics). That said, he didn't say anything about whole "learning how to play" thing....so I may have a slight hangup with that end of things. But, the JCM800 and a RAT pedal I can definitely handle. Thanks for the great demo, brother!👍

Great hand tone!
Bro, that Jazzmaster is SICK!
I have this amp and really like it. I like your videos Zach because you set the amps in their sweet spots. This amp comes alive when the pre-amp is set between 6 and 8. I’ve seen other reviewers including a big one in England that set the preamp at 12oclock and say it’s just a good amp…. But they aren’t even hitting the sweet spot.
I’m late to this party, but as a sub > your channel, you’re band’s lucky to have you & that FMan GPearl nearly stole the show, THX for turning us onto that! 👏
that blink riff was heavenly
Around The Fur sounded menacing, I have the mini Jub version of this 20watt series but I love this JCM 800 version. I tried it at GC once and loved it. (Even if it wasn’t my gear/pedalboard with it)
Killing it as always. Hoping to hear some Opeth on the next one! Maybe something from the new album ICV?

After growing too old, I found that it's not a surprise. When I was younger, I really thought his studio sound for Enema and TOYPAJ was his Strat with an SD Invader through a Triple Rectifier - turns out they're mostly Les Paul's through a Silver Jubilee. Not many probably know this.

Thanks for the demo! I love this amp. I just wish it could also do the band practice thing also. It would be an absolute dream.
@ZachWish
Жыл бұрын
Definitely! I think it could hang in a band practice situation depending on the band, but if your band is pretty damn loud, it's asking a lot of the amp. When I tried it out, I could see it working in a pinch, but the volume was maxed out and it wouldn't have been able to clean up much when you're pushing it that hard. Still a killer amp, and for playing at home, I'd rather play this 20W than the 100W head. Thanks for checking out the video!

Love your videos man. Doesn’t matter what you play through, you always find a way to get killer rock tones. Any tips and/or experience with the Marshall DSL series? I find that they are a little harsh. Do you think that greenback speakers would help? Thanks
@ZachWish
Жыл бұрын
Thanks Grant! I've had a few DSL's and JCM2000's over the years. Great amps. My favorite sounds out of those amps were always from cranking the gain on the "Classic Gain" channel with the Crunch mode engaged. That gets you into pretty solid JCM800 territory that'll clean up nice with your volume knob and then just hit it with a boost from there like a Tube Screamer, SD-1, BB Preamp or something if you need more gain. The Ultra Gain channel on those amps can be cool for certain tones but can also be kind of buzzy and like you said "harsh." Greenbacks have a softer high end than the typical G12T75s found in a lot of Marshall cabs, or V30s and they're lower wattage as well, so it can help tame some volume and top end. Thanks for checking out the video.
@ryanteacher8134

Roll the treble back and push the presence knob higher, that's a good tip for DSLs. But yeh, waht Zach said. Crunch mode on the clean channel, and put an overdrive in front of it with full volume + a little bit of gain.
Hey Zach thank you for making some of the best guitar videos out there. Your tones are unmatched. I was wondering if you think I should get this amp or the pink taco v2. I have a mesa badlander and I'm looking to get something a bit different. Thanks!

Incredible playing. Finaly a demo, that doesn't just show ultra metal but actually clean and melodic playing.
Nice and informative review I enjoyed listening through the playing and then the verbal conclusion. Flirting with the idea to save up for one as the 20w head possibly suits what my band does: when we play unmiced it is a small venue and in larger places microphones do the heavy lifting. Currently running a 20w tube head so got some experience this way. However I use a L6 POD GO with 4 cable method purely to add boost or fx to my tone. With this unit I would have the possibility to set things up bypassing the amp's preamp and going into the poweramp with a let's say clean preamp of my POD GO. How good would that work in your oppinion, how clean would it stay? This way I might have the possibility to turn this perfect little monster into a two channel one which would be a huge thing for me!
Wow, excellent selection of riffs and phrasing! Love the tone, but I have a suspicion it's mostly your fingers, not the JCM800 🤣. Btw, if anyone got a tight budget and want to get into the Marshall tube tone, I cannot recommend the DSL series enough.
The JCM800 is a classic schematic that never will fail, even this little 20watt Marshall sounds great.. :D Also there is a ton of JCM clones out there..
That first guitar. Greenish…. Jazzmaster shape guitar in olive. Ohhh dear… what a beautiful guitar.
