if you like thrash or old school death metal its a gem, i have way more expensive amps but i cant stop firing this thing up, for the price you really cant beat it at all, awesome where amps are at right now, you can really get the tones yore after without breaking the bank, its awesome, If i had the choice id keep my small convinient dsl over a real Jcm or jvm any day

They r excellent for.metal and 80s rock including cleans my only complaint is there no option for reverb pedalwise just the dial on amp but i feiggin love it . The tone shift works well for.metallica etc ryrhyn i like it tbh . My 20watt is loud enough for pubs and non mic3d drummer easy but if u r in big clubs with double kicks miced on drums go for the dsl100hr

The demo song was awesome! I have a DSL40C amongst my collection and love it. I've played the DSL20HR and I thought it seemed thin compared to my DSL40C. I could see it being used for a more modern sound. Still a great little amp though, just a different animal than the Studio series. As far as the DSL100, Gary Holt used them in SLAYER. I saw them 3 times with Gary, the last time on their farewell tour and the live sound of the DSL100 was brutal. Great video and playing as always 🤘🤘👍👍

Great presentation and charismatic communication. You are totally right about this amp.It does have its place. It is Marshall on a budget.A weird uncooked sound , that needs fleshing out.But the classic sounds can be done via pedals.I don't play as heavy so I'm used to thinking about shaping the sound with this amp. So people should save and buy a proper Marshall.Because great amps 'disappear' as you play. You don't have to think about them when they are great.

I had an early DSL40 that didn't suit me at all. This is when they still used EL84's and some unusual Marshall-branded speaker which made it sound very flat and uninspiring. Now with EL34's and decent speaker they are a lot better. I'm pretty sure all DSL's always had and have a master volume though.

Just stumbled in your channel; great review! The DSL 20 reminds me of a JCM900, which I dig. I have to toy with the “classic” channel, because I think it’ll be a good distortion pedal platform (OD, Rat, HM-2, fuzz, etc).

I have this amp and yes the classic channel sounds great with a good overdrive pedal. The other channel has more than enough gain by itself. Some people say it's too fizzy sounding but I don't have that problem. I just don't turn the presence or gain past half way and there is no issue. It's a great amp for the money.

This is my current amp. It’s weird though that I play mine through a 2X12 cab loaded with a couple cream backs and I can roll back the volume and still have a decent sound. I don’t run a noise gate though. I also use. Kraken pre-amp pedal from Victory amps and run that with the 4 cable method so in the end I have the Marshalls clean and dirty channels and when I engage the Kraken I have those 2 channels, I also hit both with the boss super overdrive waza model. I was looking at a Mesa again but I can’t get away from Marshall. They are the best plug and play amps ever!!

Very good video once again. I'm having a DSL20H and the DSL1HR and they are both fine. I prefer the DSL20 probably as it has a bit body and also the DSL1 lacks the resonance and presence the DSL20 has. However, it's true the voicing is slightly different to the first JCM2000s. The DSLs are fine and very similar but have a bit of a different tone and feel than the JCM2000s. However, both are fine though and everyone has a different taste, of course. I like pretty much all Marshalls and have worked with a lot of different ones over the years. Have a nice week, buddy.

For some reason Marshall made small changes to mainly the main circuit board on those amps that's some sound better than others, but there's no consistency so you cant pick them by year. The changes mainly cut high frequencies which helped cut the fizz, R13 stock is 100K but some came with 220K, also C18 can be increased to cut more highs, as well as other minor changes.

From the sound I hear in your video, is it that the treble is low, or does the Emulated Out sound a bit muffled? Yeah it’s really muffled like, in my experience, usually on all amps which have this feature. I don’t know why eveyone puts this really dark & muffled sounding IR in there and why they don’t use something that actually sounds good right out of the box? But like I said it could be eq’d in the post to be usable but I’d actually prefer just a direct out and then you could use an IR that you like and sounds good right out of the box like the Jens Bogren IRs I use 😎👌. It’s the Suhr Reactive Load with the Bogren IR. I believe I mention that in the video? 😊

How does a JVM 410h compare to a JCM 800 or JMP MkII 2203? Have you tried one? Somebody has listed one cheap here in NZ and it has been recently serviced by a tech I know and trust. Hard to pass over, even though I do not need an amp and I am supposed to be saving for another guitar. I am thinking the recording feature would be good to use as a valve preamp with IRs, because I am wary of cranking my Plexi replica with a load box due to having killed a few amps in the past. Edit. Currently i've found out that active pickups (running emg81-85 + PA2 booster) works better than passive for guitar However my bass (passive pups + active EQ ) i can't find a way to make it sound OKAY. Even without it being hooked up to anything that bass resonates like a mthrfckr so it's likely that i'm missing something related to input. Is that something that a DI box would fix? kiitos

Oh man really sorry to hear that. I’ve played between 60-150 shows / year for the last 20 years so it’s been quite different for the last two years but what else can we do than just trying to make the best out of the current situation. I started this KZread thing, finished my Bachelor of Arts degree (finally - it was on hold for almost 10 years), updated my studio and started to do more recording, mixing & mastering works and I’ve upped my skills more in the last 2 years than in the 20+ years I’ve been a pro in this business etc. And released a few albums and there’s more to come. I’m on vacation now but as soon as I’m back in studio we’ll start to record the next Cyhra album and more of my solo stuff etc. ”Must not lie down in the fire”. 😎

I was really disappointed in the classic gain channel. I bought the amp for that plexi/800 sound that I'd never had before. The amp convinced me that I didn't like those amps for a while. Now I know better.

Yeah I was quite disappointed to the classic channel ’cos it wasn’t even close to Plexi or 800.

@@EugeValovirta230V I have the 40watt cr and its basically the same as here. You can crank the gain on the green and red and nothing happens. Its just a very pushed clean really. Even at stage volumes.

Hi Euge.....have you ever tried a TSL60? Lots of mixed reviews online but the majority are negative. I couldn't find that one in your video list so I thought I would ask. I have a chance to buy one but I cannot find a good solid review like the ones you do. Thanks
