    I was just in an MVC presentation where they pitched the difference between trust points and exchange points. The sales rep insisted i would have better availability if i had both trust points and exchange (enrolled) points. I didnt argue with him, but i remembered this video, and let him talk until i said no to buying Trust points. Thanks for all you do to educate the MVC owner community.

    Great video. Just did two MVC presentations recently. For the first time ever, both offered to buy back our legacy weeks for what we paid for them...had not seen that before, but of course they wanted us to buy points which would have cost alot more and we would have had less points overall than our enrolled weeks...terrible deal. Agree with you on the cruises. We used destination points to book a cruise which was cancelled in 2020 due to covid. The points were 3450, the refund on the cruise was only $1100. We ended up taking cruise credit and finally using it in 2022, but will never use points for a cruise again. Thanks for your highly eductional videos.

    We just did an owners update yesterday. We are Vistana only owners, Chairman's Club in Abound. We have elected a portion of our ownership to explore Marriott properties. Your details of the update are exactly what we were told. We did comment that availability was one of our dislikes about our ownership. The sales rep jumped on the opportunity to push us to buy trust points to open more inventory to us. Inventory "buckets" and how inventory is managed by Marriott is definitely confusing. I wasn't sure if owning trust points in conjunction with elected Club points does anything to offer me more inventory as they were suggesting. My first reaction was to buy Marriott points as you stated, they are the same as buying from Marriott after the $3/point fee, just much cheaper. Their claim was that trust points give a fractional (extremely small) ownership in all Marriott properties, therefore giving me access to all available trust inventory suggesting that my current ownership does not give me access to any trust inventory. Your videos are great. This one came online at the perfect time for me. You've convinced me to take no action at this time.

    Trust points don't magically turn your elected points you get from converting VOIs into something they are not. The elected points can only reserve what is in the MVC Exchange Company. The trust points do have the potential to see additional inventory that is only available to trust owners. HOWEVER, to date MVC just dumps all the inventory into a single bucket that elected and trust points can reserve equally. The only reason to ever buy more points is because you need more time for vacations and travel. Promises that you can reserve more or see more inventory are currently, simply, untrue. Thanks for watching!

    I own DVC and Vistana. My sister owns Marriott and has owned with them for a long time. I think one thing you have potentially missed (which is probably a huge selling point for MVC sales) is the tiered system MVC has. With DVC I have a home resort, and I can book that home resort at 11 months. Then at 7 months, any DVC owners can book at my home resort. With MVC, the booking advantage goes to those who have the most points (tiered system). My little amount of points I can convert from my Vistana will put me at the bottom tier and I'll be scraping from the bottom of the barrel. My SO and I do travel during off seasons, so I'm hopeful this won't affect us too awful much, but I know it will be hard to get a HHI or Myrtle Beach booking through MVC 😒

    Just had a sales pitch at canyon villas vacation club. Wasn’t as intense as other ones we’ve been in but had all the standard parts. My biggest issue with the pitch is when they show how the most in demand places can be reserved with 1750-2000 points. Makes it seem achievable but they fail to mention you’ll never be able to reserve one even at some of the highest membership levels. I think it can be a great program but you need to have the flexibility to go wherever and whenever the places are available, not necessarily what you may want.

    Hey Jeremy. We attended the sale presentation last Saturday and are now in the rescission period for 1000 points. After seeing some of your videos I have a couple questions. 1. We have a Ko Olina week that is valued at 4950 points when converted. Can we convert this to points without buying any points outright? Or is it required that we purchase trust points from them in order to convert to Club Points. 2. I see points for sale on Redweek for around $ 2500/ 1000 plus the Marriott 3000+ charges. This seems a lot better than the $16500 they want us to pony up. Assuming my week is not convertible it seems like having just 1000 points wouldn't do much. 3. I believe you advised that maybe once a year Marriott offers the ability to convert weeks bought on the market to (was it) points with a Marriott fee? Is it better to buy weeks on the cheap and then wait to convert when given the opportunity? 4. If you buy weeks on the open market does Marriott make them second class weeks by putting restrictions on them that weeks originally bought from Marriott don't have? Thanks for clueing us into all the dirty details.

  • @DestinationTimeshare

    @DestinationTimeshare

    Hello, Jim. I am happy to see that you found my videos while you were within your recission period of your purchase. I will answer each question; 1. You do not need to buy trust points to be able to convert your Ko'olina week to Club Points. Buying points also does not magically "supercharge" your points from Ko'olina. You may hear this at times in an owner update. I don't know if you enrolled your Ko'olina week in the Destinations Points (now Abound) program. If you didn't it is now possible to do this for free where they used to charge $595 to do this. 2. Points usually sell for $3 to $5 on the resale market. Marriott does have right of first refual on these. YOu can see some prices where they are taking them back at www.rofr.net. When you buy resale points, they are as good as buying direct as long as you pay the $3 per point ($3000 minimum) initiation fees. I have a video explaining resale points here; kzread.info/dash/bejne/gKx9m9lwqpauZ5s.html Though 1,000 points really doesn't help you a lot. Only buy more points if you need more vacation time. 3. Yes, this is an option that MVC has done for the past several years and if you buy the right resale week with a low maintenance fee to point ratio, it can be an okay option. You would actually be best to enroll this buy buying a deeded week in the Caribbean or Spain. Those tend to be cheaper options that pure Abound Trust Points. 4. Resale weeks can't be enrolled in the points program unless you do what is explained in #3. Resale weeks can only be used to reserve your home resort week at the resort you own in the season you own. Just like your Ko'olina week. If you want to go to a different resort you need to exchange through Interval International. I hope this helps. Any other questions, let me know.

    We are owners in Vistana, deeded properties as well as Flex points and have CP in MVC. If we are looking into a cruise, should we go through Vistana or go through MVC (Collet as you mentioned)? If we want to cruise in say 2026, can we "bank" our Vistana star options and MVC-CP's from 2024 & 2025 and then use those points plus our 2026 points to give us decent amount of points. And finally, if we don't have enough points, can we pay with points and cash. I hope I am phrasing this question correctly.

  • @DestinationTimeshare

    @DestinationTimeshare

    Жыл бұрын

    Hello Steven, To determine if Club Points or StarOptions is the best, you really just need to look at the costs for each. I think booking cruises with StarOptions requires a phone call but you can look at cruises with Club Points online. IN the end, it just comes down to the math. Maintenance fee per StarOption vs maintenance fee per Club Point. I don't know enough about using StarOptions for cruises as to know if you can use banked options, but for Club Points you certainly can. Club Points can only be banked for one year unless you are Presidential or Chairman's Owner Benefit level. Presidential can bank for 18 months and Chairman 's for 24. So you may or may not be able to bank Club Points from 2024 into 2026. StarOptions can still be banked for two years until 2025. As for paying cash for the difference, that isn't possible. Neither Vistana nor Marriott offer the ability to buy/rent one time use Options or Club Points. What you can do instead though is rent from another owner for about $0.65-$0.70 per point. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please let me know.

    @@DestinationTimeshare Since we are "Chairman" I think we do have the 24 month CP banking option. Great Video and the points you make are spot on. My wife and I have owned for a little over a year. Another sales tactic which MVC uses is to hook you in by selling you a smaller amount of points, in our case about 2000, then they "gift" you about a 2000 points that "you can use immediately and don't pay maintenance fees on". Then to sweeten the deal even more, in one year you'll receive another 1000-2000 points that you again don't pay maintenance fees and taxes on. What we've realized after trying to navigate making reservations and experiencing many of the issues that Jeremy highlights is that you need a minimum of about 4500 points. This places you in the sweet spot of the MVC tiered system and allows you to book earlier, and gives you enough points to go just about anywhere and stay for 5-7 days. Given their sales tactic, they get you in at a lower cost of entry by getting you to purchase 2000 points, then they "gift" you enough points to allow you to truly use the program because they know that 2000 points isn't enough. During this time you'll realize that you need more points, and thus buy more because you've already spent your money and are an owner. I will say that we truly enjoy our vacations while we're at the resorts, but I'm still not convinced that making this purchase was the best decision.

    I wish I could find something about diamanté in Cabo. There is NOTHING in the internet about this huge ripoff of a timeshare.

    I don't really know anything about that property. Is it perhaps a membership in an all inclusive resort? You may want to ask about it in the Mexico Timesharing forum on TUG. tugbbs.com/forums/forums/mexico-timesharing.25/

    @@DestinationTimeshare thanks! I visited with friends who paid 60K for one week every 2 years and you cannot swim in the ocean nor the pool, which is freezing. The restaurants are so expensive. $11 for a bottle of water and $100 for one steak on a bare plate.

    The sales reps are pushing cruises because they know points owners are having difficulty making reservations for high demand resorts, particularly those that have alot of weeks owners. Problem is that their cruises are very overpriced if you use points. You pay the Equivalent of 2.5 times in points versus in cash. Recent example point Equivalent is $2750, when i can $1200 cash for the same cruise

    Yeah, the cruises are a rip off. They always try to show us how cheap they are, when we point out that the points are per person they usually don't have much else to say. The same goes for just about any, what I call, cash based booking option. Tours, converting to travel insurance, golf. They are a poor value for the cost. Thanks for watching!

    They never mentioned weeks just book when you want and it’s less points in down season

    Yes, it is cheaper to book in lower seasons and midweek stays vs weekend stays.

    If you think the MVC presentation is quirky try going to a HGVC presentation. YIKES!!!!

    We've done one HGVC presentation, so not a lot of experience there but ours was okay. Though our experience with Marriott presentations comes from taking over 50 of them. So we have heard just about everything.

    I suspect they think the product can only be sold using these tactics and it can't sell itself based on the product as it is. The resort product is very good, I just think Abound Trust Points are very expensive. Thanks for watching!

    Lets face it. MVC is a really scummy company, and everyone should avoid it. I certainly wish I had. Now I have paid them over $25,000 and suffer every year trying to get a vacation I want. Should have just paid for a vacation on the year I wanted to go. It would have been cheaper, and so much easier. If you have not purchased a time share. DO NOT.

    You are so right!!! They told us if we reached the Predidential level we'd be assured of getting the week at the place we want and that is a LIE!!!! We've pd over $80,000 to Marriott and even though we can go on a wait list 13 months in advance we STILL can't get what we want!😢😢😢😢
