I have come to realise that some of my favourite bikes are Marmite bikes!

It’s a strange phenomenon for certain. Though I’ve never been a fan of the HD brand I can appreciate its appeal and I’m glad they exist. Years ago I owned a KTM 650 LC which I loved (and had no trouble with). As for Norton a new dealer opened its doors in Hampshire recently and I loved looking around at their new models. I didn’t know you had another channel btw, so I’ll nip over and subscribe now!

Totally agree - each to their own and bikers should just be happy you are on two wheels irrespective of the type of bike!

You're absolutely spot on about people having "strong opinions" on topics they know nothing about - the last 4 years have highlighted this more than I could possibly have imagined. My condolences to anyone who took a covid vaccine :(

I assume you’re being ironic with the vaccine comment.

Interesting discussion. I consider myself open minded on the issue of motorcycle preferences but confess I have never understood the positives regarding vintage or modern HD’s, having read the reviews and ridden a couple….but each to their own. The 961 is a different animal. I have owned several classic Nortons (and still own a couple) and seriously considered a 961. I was put off by the firms then owner, who I considered a crook and I reckon I dodged a bullet there. The fact that there were so many low mileage 961’s on the market and the horror stories of owners technical issues convinced me that they were more vanity display than a serious motorcycle intended to be ridden. Having said that, I love my Norton Rotary which is a machine with more than its fair share of issues….

The Honda CX500. The original plastic maggot. Hated my many, loved by despatchers and tourers. Presumably, the Honda design team decided that they could;t be arsed that day and just based its style on a dung beetle.

I think I must have a marmite addiction, I’ve owned several “marmite” bikes. Buell S1, XB9SX, XB12XT & I still own a Buell 1125CR. I’ve also owned an EBR1190RX. My current Marmite bike of choice is a Husqvarna Nuda 900. As for dirt bikes I own a Husqvarna TE449 (what’s that I here most say)! Exactly! Keep the vids coming, they’re thought provoking

Me too. Most of my bikes have fallen into that category, it’s fine until you want to p/x them and they are often quite hard to shift, not mainstream enough. Oh well…….

Morning Proffessori, I know exactly what you're talking about. I had a Suzuki RE5 in the 70s. Marmite was an understatement. A very different motorcycle for the time. Not very quick, fuel economy was poor and expensive to maintain. But I loved it.

I rode Harleys since they were manufactured by a bowling machine company. Even back then, they were considered by some non riders as secon class. My answer was a second-class ride is better than a first class walk.

Like the Yamaha Divvy. Ok bike apart from water gets inside the frame and they rust from the inside out. Just cooler to ride a Black Suzuki Bandit.😂😂

Is the Honda CB250N ,SUPERDREAM, a Marmite Bike?. I know a lot who hated them. I think the CB400N ,same frame, was more liked, but what a great marketing job Honda did coz that was basically a commuter bike.😂😂

Simon, you’re clearly confused! Marmite is delicious and is, most importantly, a byproduct of beer production and how bad can that be? If you were talking about that favourite sandwich spread from Aussie, which is designed to make a dog’s bum taste palatable, Vegemite, I’d agree with you! So let’s rather called controversial motorcycles Vegemite motorcycles! Thank you for your kind consideration in this matter! 😂😂🏍️💪🇦🇺👍🇿🇦

Don't really get all the hate for Norton. Are lots of more expensive mass-produced motorcycles. Performance is more than enough for uk roads.

You should just say Cruiser instead of Harley, I don't dislike Harley-Davidson bikes ,I don't like how Harley is used to describe any cruiser bike , even if it's a Suzuki M1800 or Yamaha XV1100 or Kawasaki VN1500.
