Marking Your Magazines

Are your magazines marked? It really doesn't matter, until it does... Pistol or Rifle magazines eventually give up the ghost. And when they do, they cause weapon malfunctions. It is important have your magazines marked in order to quickly isolate the problem and replace that magazine.

    Typically, I use just sharpies. For example, National Geographic usually has decently wide yellow borders to mark on. Popular Mechanics usually has monochromatic backgrounds for its cover picture, so I usually go for a corner on there.

    @@KitBadger You know as well as I do, that when the defecation hits the oscillation, every plan you made, goes right out the window! The essence of combat is doing what you can to control absolute chaos. But regardless, mags being the weakest link in your primary, even with the old warhorses like the M-14, having a way to quickly identify the problematic ones is a great tip. I'd never thought of it. Same for autopistols. Everything but revolvers, pumps, or lever actions. Sometimes you have no say in what you might have to use in a straight up shoot em out.😁

    I never knew what adding color was for, I’ve just always rattle canned the base plates of all mine caution yellow to A: prevent mixing up mine with others when i have a good amount of people out with me, and B: to find them easier after changing them on the move, only because of the grass is sometimes high where I go. Nice and bright, just easier to find fast on the walk back haha. Cool info tho.

    Agreed 100 percent. As a student of the gun and Firearms instructor, I find failure points and training mags and it's easy to eliminate and replace. I will say that Magpul handgun magazines are tough as hell. Glock factory, Not so much.

    Do you also have a written log of mags and there markings? Maybe in a notebook? I assume not because your forgot where you left off. I used a label maker to add my name and mag number. Put it on the front spine but as i used then it’s wore off lol.

    Can't you just buy a new spring if the shell or follower is fine? For example if it double feeds thats usually a spring going bad?

  • @KitBadger

    @KitBadger

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yes and No. You can replace the follower and spring in magazines. But double feeds can be indicative of worn out feed lips. Which is literally the magazine body itself. Does that make sense?

  • @mountaintraining9203

    @mountaintraining9203

    6 жыл бұрын

    Kit Badger yes it does. Is it usually excessive wear underneath the feed lips or on top that causes the double feed?
