Every pack of mine (Assault/Bug-Out/Princess Picnic...) has one essential item I did not notice in this video; ZIPLOC Baggies. I usually keep a few 1-gallon and 1-quart bags in my pack. I also use them to store my extra socks/undies or loose gear in. Keeps things dry, tidy and separated. Also, great to put your dirty socks/clothes in to prevent stinking up everything else in the pack. Just my $.02 after 26 years of living out of a ruck.

I have a ton of ziplock bags I put things in, especially my main medical supplies. Bandages are sorted by size and type. Then each category is in a larger bag. That way compresses are in one, tape is in another, and all sizes and shapes of band aids in yet another. That way replenishing the IFAK is just a matter of finding the right bags. No hunting through a chaotic mess. It also works great for food too. Condiments and whatever else you need to make your roadkill stew go down and stay down should be together and not spread out all over the bottom of your bag. My list is huge.

Never never never give a Silver Bullet to a dehydration patient. Internal damage sucks.
This video just made me feel extremely old. The fact that it's 4 years old and he described the old Marine corps will be assault pack as surplus made me feel very old as that is what I carried when I was in the Marine corps.
Great video, very enlightening. In my time in the Army I was in the Cav and always had an armored vehicle at my disposal so it's almost embarrassing to say but I never had any reason to pack an assault pack. When you don't have to physically carry it you tend to over pack :-). I always had a large ALICE pack, my NBC gear, and a duffel bag for the miscellaneous and pogey bait (gedunk in the Navy and Marines?) so what I might need to pack to hump on my back for a 24-hour mission really never came up. I had totally forgotten about chem sticks. When you mentioned flares my first thought was "that ain't gonna work in Colorado, you'd burn the place down" but the light bulb went off when you got to the chem lights. That'll work in a pinch.

Loving the videos. Please do a video on ammo types, range, gun types and environments you plan on using them in.
New to your channel, and I love your style. I'm glad to see (obviously) the marine surplus packs. They're huge, but what I really love about them is that rigid shell, really helps my back. Considering I'm not actually (hopefully) going to see combat as just a civilian and mostly carry my pack for camping/hiking, or sometimes hunting or shooting way back in the boonies, I really appreciate that you take the time to review non-combat supplies and setups for non-service members. Keep making great videos man, and of course thank you for your service as well.
Thanks for your great videos, your tips are great advice. Even though I am not military as I'm part of the Civil Protection here in Italy, and most of our missions are sundry like keeping control of the public during shows, events etc, we are always on call to intervene in case of floods, earthquakes, forest fires, so it's always best to be equipped!

Of recent generations, I'm the first firstborn not to serve directly, though I'm still listed as volunteer reserve medic. It turns out that my regular duties as a rural veterinarian aren't that far removed from what I'd be expected to perform as a medic. I've already treated enough gunshot wounds at the clinic as it is. My three month training felt like more of a formality, although I have walked away with improved first responder certification and full triage qualification. That's nice. I just wanted to say that you're right about different mission profiles, even between civilian roles. A rural veterinarian has a much different daypack than a volunteer firefighter. And a lot of your explanations are universally relevant. There's something for everybody in your videos, whether we're military, civilian or Venusian. I've been impressed enough by some of your product recommendations that I've switched my vehicle kit to something more compact and I'm now waiting on a Hayley Strategic Flatpack as my new daypack.
You are hilarious, love listening to you tell the truth. You were made for KZread's straight man role, Keep up the great work and thank you for your service.

Lol. DNA to MUSTANGS COPY?
I have a chest rig and it feeds my carbine. I live in a small city, more like a town in a rural area. I run deuce gear and ALICE pack. The medium ALICE pack off the frame can be turned into an assault pack by tying the internal strings and folding and tying the bottom to the rear of the pack. It can also be run as is with standard frame and a sustainment pouch can be added on either side to plus up the volume. The large ALICE won't accept the sustainment pouches. I can run water, ammo, food, shelter, etc on the LC2 rig and leave the pack free for other needs or things. After market frames will allow you to add a MOLLE 2 hip pad. I realize I'm old school, but it works well. Cold War Sgt USAF. Love your vids. I've been sharing them with family and friends.
My medium ALICE pack and my Marine Corps Assault pack are really good as far as surplus gear goes for a 24-72 hour bag. Both slip over my plate carrier easily. It also prevents me from packing too much gear and keeps me focused on ESSENTIALS. Mecial, Amo, water, and food. In that order.
Tactical Tailor removable operator pack is good for me. Cannae is good stuff too.

Awesome pack! I've got the same one. Some Aussie vets told me that lasted for ever while they were deployed.
When I was in the Corps, we used to clip a carabinier to our flacks/plate carriers and clip our helmets to those. Also, our MTV flacks came with a butt stock stop. We could velcro it underneath a shoulder strap to give our rifles some purchase. Something similar to that may be a viable solution for having a rifle slip off of your day pack straps.
C17 Loadmaster and my 24 hour pack consists of breakfast lunch and dinner, a french press for making cold brew, naproxen for the back pain, laptop for watching videos, nintendo switch, water bottle, hammock. Those 24 duty days really get you.

First of all, thank you for the great videos, especially with the later "How-To" videos, very informative. The other thing is, you are reviewing the Legion Elite pack, but your link is to the Legion pack, which is smaller. There is also a Phalanx pack which is a little bigger. Note for guys with big heads like mine: if you wear an XL MICH helmet, you probably want the bigger Phalanx....
08:02 That really meant a lot. Like really. I found out I was color blind trying to go for SEAL but that got squashed along with my contingency of going Nuke. So now I'm stuck behind a desk for the majority of my time, along with working on and launching jets (which is way outside of my rate and no one else in my rate does) but I do it because I want to do something "cool" but there is always that thought in the back of my head of "if only I wasn't colorblind." So thank you.
i tried joining the army back in 09 and was rejected for medical reasons. it was particularly hard because i was the first generation in my family to not serve. thanks for the acknowledgement for us civis and rejects. what's everyone's take on the 72hr rush by 5-11?
"So, lets see whats in my pack" *Pulls out spaghetti monster*
My Banshee plate carrier does well paired with the old Ares armor pack. Slim and able to connect to my Banshee with adapters or wear as a pack. It has a space for hydration bladders, up to six mags on the top with retention cords. 3 compartments total with MOLLE webbing. Haven't heard of them, but as it stands I'm far to busy to participate in anything else.
Great information as always. I like your explanations of why you have your stuff set up the way you do.
Ever thought of carrying tape on something like a gift card? Wrap it around for as much tape as you need, and then it's small enough to fit inside an admin pouch/small GP without the bulk of a full roll, especially if you need multiple types of tape. Fantastic videos, they're very informative.

"Gortex top and bottom" I make sure to carry AA's and CR123 for my peq and so I can get motion sick driving a humvee with NVGs. Also I found that in NC, gortex only lasts you a couple hours before the water eventually slides in, and I always end up soaked.
first vid by uploader I saw, subbed @ 20 secs just for the humble thanking
"When I was in the Navy" Wait. What?! Why wouldn't the Navy slap the ol' franchise tag on the Tactical Lumberjack?! Did you get traded to the AF or were you a free agent?
