In this part 1 of a 3 part series, we cover marketing fundamentals. This video is for any grower who has struggled with the marketing aspect of growing their flower farming business. I speak as someone who has had over a decade of experience in marketing, both building a side hustle ecommerce company and working in marketing. I absolutely agree with you. For my interior design business I send out Christmas cards to all customers that I have worked with in the past ten years. That is where I get all my business from, whether repeat or referral, and all mention how much they love the "created by me, Birds in Santa Hats" Christmas cards they receive each year. Such a simple thing but it has such a huge and positive impact on my past customers. I send out an average of 150 cards per year and often the repeat customers come from 5-7 years ago, they have sold their home to downsize or upsize and are ready for more work, or they are just ready to tackle areas that were not dealt with before. They all share that they keep the cards as they love them so much and enjoy collecting each different one.

This is exactly what Eric does as a realtor! Frequency and reminding people about the great experience they have can be all that’s needed to run a sustainable business!

My mortgage lender dropped off cookies at my door this weekend. We bought our house 2 years ago. So for her to show up on my door with cookies and a quick chat was amazing. I will absolutely use her and recommend her .

I’m so glad I found your page & this series! I agree that the business side of flower farming has a gap, because the way I was scrolling & scrolling for this exact information…🙃 I’m new to establishing myself as a flower farm & plant nursery. Your page has been incredibly helpful to me in this journey.

Why are you only speaking of marketing on social media? I had several social media accounts for many years and rarely did I have sales. I left social media 2 years ago and I have a some repeat customers yet would like to reach more. After all marketing has been around long before social media. Can you address these same topics for those of us who do not do social media? Thank you

Absolutely and this is a great point! I will definitely add tangible examples that are non-social media related in the upcoming videos. I would also say that there are a few ways to use social media and one of the most effective ways in my view doesn't even involve needing to post content. I'll explain more in the video :)

One of the best ways you can market yourself is to always be friendly and helpful when out and about, and then try to always let people know about your flowers. For example. During the flower season, when I am purchasing something small I always say - with a big smile and sunny disposition "Do you mind if I some change with this purchase, I get so much change at my flower wagon?" Invariably someone in the line will say "Oh are you the flower wagon on Alder Street?" and I will say "Yes I am" this will always be followed by " I drive by it all the time, next time I must stop and check it out" or "I have purchased from you so many times, its nice to finally meet you" and a happy big conversation starts amongst all the people in the line, because after all, people love flowers. Also, check out my stand alone comment on how I use Christmas Cards as the only form of advertising with my interior design customers. I am very happy with how my flower business increases each year, without the use of any social media, I don't consider my KZread channel as part of my flower sales as my KZread followers aren't local to me.
