My feverfew and yarrow comes back second years strongly without doing anything. You are right that the yarrow gets paler in their third year. But that’s good for selling to wedding florist, and pastel color pallets. I will rip out 2/3 and will start new with colorful mix. Thanks again for the shout out and the drone shot! 😘❤️❤️❤️

I am a farmer living in the tropics. As much as I would love to farm flowers there is not a big market for it here in jamaica. However, watching you for some time teaches me a lot of things. I have watched you grow and get better at what you do. Therefore, whatever tips I find useful I will apply to my business to help me make a profit. Take a four inch stirrup hoe through your self seeded areas. Create a grid in the bed by hoeing four inches east to west across the bed then north to south down the bed. When you re done you'll have small clumps four inches apart throughout your bed. You can then thin if each clump is still crazy but lots of times you can just leave the couple extra. Works on buplerum, larkspur, bachelor buttons, feverfew​@@bareflowerfarm

You have to keep in mind you had to keep them alive.. but totally get it.

I didn't realize that making a bouquet is hard work. I have a small garden mainly roses, i have 17 roses, 11 different kind of peonies, 5 hydrangeas and about 50 Irises in my small yard. I don't cut them though because water in the jar with flowers either turned brown or green and it get stinks even after 2 to 3 days.. So, now I know that there are tablets or things you can use to avoid bacteria build up in the water... thank you for that...

it's best to add Floralife and change the water every 2 days. I mix up the Floralife by the galloon so I always have some. Re-clip the stems when you change the water. You can buy Floralife in a big tub or in individual packets. I used to work in a flower shop so I know the smell of rotten water very well.

Great video Jess, I found ladybug eggs on my fever few vegmo, from last year. I have thrips on my strawflowers. I have been sick in bed with a flu, so can't wait to get back out there.. on Monday. I'll have to remove them. They curl up the leaves.

Sorry to hear about the thrips on strawflowers. They are capable of eating anything with pollen but it's interesting how certain people get it on one crop versus another. I seem to be the only one who I know who gets it on my feverfew lol

Have you done a video strictly about your co op and selling to them? I would love a chat about that. They are starting a flower coop in my state and I am trying to be a part of it. Very excited to learn, I haven't sold wholesale before.

My learning is, there is no such thing as a trap crop with thrips bc they multiply so quickly and will basically eat anything with pollen. A trap crop is good for a pest that is attracted to just a few plants. I personally would rip out!

Haha nigella is the flower that keeps on giving! And yes, I got a new camera. It’s the DJI osmo pocket 3. We were so impressed with their drone camera quality that I got the vlogging camera and I LOVE IT!

Thank you for all the good info! I’ve been worried about including sea holly in my bouquets because of them being prickly. Is there a particular variety that you grow that avoids that?

Mine are definitely prickly and I find that if you harvest less mature when it is still a bit more green, it is less prickly. But that's why I wear gloves when I harvest 😅

I´m planning on planting a few beds of Digitalis (different varieties) this fall, for blooms next summer. Do you know the best and most efficient spacing?

Hi! I’m actually not super familiar with western style funerals (I guess that’s a good thing since I haven’t been to any). I would stick with LA hybrids because they don’t have a fragrance. One white lily worth looking into is Eyeliner. You’ll see why it’s called that when you see a photo!

I would think that the amount of chlorine in drinking water is probably no where near the level needed to kill bacteria. You can test. If you put dirty stems in a bucket and it starts smelling pretty quickly, you'll know that the water is dirty and therefore not enough chlorine.

What spacing do you use for the lilies?

LA hybrids! 80% of what I grow are those because then I can sell them retail without worrying about people getting a migraine just from going into the store! Those are also the ones I’m reselling (roselilies are slightly fragrant)

Do you worry about selling foxglove due to its toxic nature? I'm still learning in this department...

Not anymore. The fact is, a lot of flowers we grow are toxic- lilies, tulips, larkspur, etc. I sell majority to florists who do event work but I do put a sticker on retail bouquets warning people to keep away from pets and not to eat!

Q? Do you sheet mulch in between rows?

I was going to say the same thing. Insulation constantly sheds and is beyond unhealthy. Not good for the lungs, eyes, open pores, etc. at all. We just gave that (much longer) speech to my brother in law and thankfully, after looking into it, he has drywalled his basement ceiling.

@@bareflowerfarm You can always staple vapour barrier over it in the mean time. Or, do what we did in my seed room after insulating. We stapled tyvek - or exterior vapour barrier over it, we did this because its white and reflects light.

It’s not invasive like mint but it definitely spreads! So it’s something to stay on top of if you won’t want a ton of it Note it’s a native in much of the US and covers alot of empty fields. Usually the native yarrow is the bright yellow or a white.

Do you have to have a business license/horticulteral license to sell at that store??

So I have 10 that I put in early spring. 1/3 have been eaten by deer 😂. I know they will regenerate but this was a small test to see if I would need to protect them and the answer is a clear yes aka lower priority. I may put in a few more peonies but no where near the level that others are!

Last year I had so many, like over 200’plants that I couldn’t throw them away so they got composted. This year. They’re getting thrown away! Realistically, I have a lot of clover on our property where our thrips overwinter so… I have a steady supply of thrips unless if we use weed killer for the clover which I’m not gonna do especially on 3 acres
