Market Slowdown | Why a Porsche Cayman is Still a Financially Savvy Purchase

Depreciation is one of the major costs that comes with owning a sports car and some models are notorious for crazy high depreciation rates, costing owners tens and thousands of dollars. The Porsche cayman is one of them, but even in this market, there are some premature sign of cracking price trends.

The Porsche Cayman market softened slightly compared to february but that it still very much belongs to the group markets that outperformed the general market. If you are shopping in this segment and care about depreciation, it is hard to ignore the cayman. It is one the most financially savy purchases you can make. Values decreased by an average of 2.7% excluding the GT4 RS and this is less than the market average. GT4s were even flat during last year, after they bounced back from correction in the second half of 2022.

ICE Cayman values only going up in the future once Porsche stops ICE and moves to 100% EV Caymans. I’m sure the EVs will be faster but they will never provide the same driving experience!

Just depreciated my GTS 4.0 to the tune of 650 miles today. Pure joy! Thanks for the market update!

It's good to know prices are keeping steady, but no one is taking my 981 Cayman S off me. Im driving that thing into the ground.

Paid £30k for a fully loaded 981S, already worth 15-20% more. The 718 line up is being phased out . Very few good flat 6.

718 GTS is the best bang for buck Porsche. Can’t wait for when the full EV next gen is revealed so prices can appreciate on the ICE models or at least remain steady and hold their value.

Thank you! That's great news. I'll keep my ruby red 987.1 5spd base as it's so much fun on the twisty back roads around here. 😃

I'd be curious to see the breakdown of manual vs PDK Caymans (if possible). Just an idea for the next one. 👍

I got my base 981 at the start of 2024. The previous owner originally bought it mid covid at an inflated value and lost of 25% of its value in 2 years. Im glad I got once the market settled down.

I’ve been watching the Cayman market for 3 years and this is spot on. Carried over inventory is spiking in 2024. Even still, dealers aren’t cutting prices on 987.2s. I’m fairly certain when they sell after 90 days, they are being discounted at the negotiation table, but not publicly. This is keeping prices artificially flat when they are actually coming down.

Very interesting market analysis.Question, if you state 5% depreciation in 1 year what assumption on mileage for that year do you make. Also does your analysis apply to UK. Thanks
