What a great piece of engineering. As a vehicle tech I love all things like this. Great handling as well from an era that didn't have computers but lots and lots of hands on knowledge and experience ❤️

I would like to repeat this design - the engine from Zil-130, wheels from a motorcycle, some boards, a garden chair - it seems that this is all that is needed.

I just checked Wikipedia, this was one of the first V8 engines ever invented for automotive, the only earlier one being Rolls Royce, and then Antoinette for aeronautical applications. I had no idea the V8 cylinder configuration was that old since most cars of that era used straight configurations. I love how you can hear the cam lobes clicking against the push rods.

@@jwboatdesigns Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Ford was first to build a V-8 block from a single casting. There were other V-8 engines, but the block was several pieces bonded together.

I love the whole thing, but that was a clean engine design. I would assume a mountain of torque, since it moved the vehicle at pretty good speed at not much more than an idle.

Can you imagine what an absolute miracle of technology this would have been to the casual observer in 1905? It woulda been like watching us launch a rocket to Mars today. Full disclosure: I'm amazed how fast it was!

I agree so much... and this powerful beast machine looks extremely good and scary too... we tend to forget how advanced ( in a way) they already were in the early 1900's... seeing those new industrial technologies progresses back then and a decade later going through the 1st World War must have been quite intense and scary for the people living back then.

That man had balls to race each other back in the beginning of the 20th century only on a frame, almost no suspension, tiny brakes only on the back wheels, but important - a huge V8

Early racers refused to wear seatbelts . They reckoned that if they crashed they would have a better chance of survival by being thrown clear of the blazing wreck 🔥

WHAT A RIG! Look at how many safety features hadn't been incorporated back then! Every feature we see today was born from a vat of blood. I love this, would love to drive something like it - but that driver has NERVES OF STEEL to go as fast as he did! In a wreck, that steering column would impale him so deeply, it'd get his next of kin!

The best safety devices to appear were four wheel hydraulic brakes, seatbelts and the human brain that made safe driving possible. As many today seem to lack a brain, we now have more chips in a car than a computer network!..🤣,... distracted and brainless drivers are the issue today and some drivers are old enough to know better. I do agree, much respect needs to go to the early pioneers who drove cars at speed, often with no brakes, roll cages nor seatbelts. That's why we call them "legends"!!!

Hey Mark - Chapeau for this ride with this infernal machine - I only drove a Healey once at the Nürburging. Never before without a brake booster and without any kind of steering assistance. I panicked, my hands were damp and I was about to have to fetch new laundry after the round in the Hotelroom. Hey man - your ride is an extremely strong and impressive performance!

200hp but about 700ft/lbs of torque at a lazy 1500 RPM.... amazing what 22.5 litres of displacement can do, even with suuuper low compression

So that was built in and around 1905........given our cheap and plentiful modern tools literally within a 15 minute drive, current mechanical knowledge and technology...I still could not build that thing from scratch today. It boggles my mind that they did that back then.

Back in the early 1980's there was this guy that pulled some similar looking shit with an old 500c.i. Caddy and took it drag racing. Not much more than a bone stock frame, engine, drivetrain and seat. He only stopped when he got popped by tech for going too fast without a cage.
