At this point Brain Leak is just two besties telling each other what they did during the week. It's fucking wholesome, I love it

Thank you for how you talked about health and food in this episode. I have body image/mental health issues and this was so inspiring with how positive you guys talked about it. I can’t boil it down into words exactly what you guys said but just thank you, its really nice

Sean's Marky Mark impression killed me, my cubicles neighbors at work must hate my ass bc im always poorly holding in laughter 💀
Runner/Track Coach here! Running is heel to toe. Elbows bent 90 degrees and pump up and down with your legs. Don’t clench your fists/face, be relaxed. Body straight up but relaxed. When it comes to sprints, starting off low in the blocks with a lean gets that momentum going, but by the first couple of steps out of a block you are straight up and down. Only other time you are leaning is to get across the finish line(if it’s a race). Hope that helps? Lololol

From what I remember from track days, you gotta run on the "ball of your feet", keep your body straightup and those arm strides are really important for your balance... oh and if you actually want it to be "running" you need to be off the ground at some point, or you're just speedwalking lol. Idk that was a long time ago now though, my cardio has dropped off since u_u
No idea about actual running efficiency, but for me I always get the best bang for my buck by continually falling forward. Meaning instead of trying to pull my body through space, I'm always leaned slightly forward and each run of the leg is pushing and keeping me upright... So instead of pulling into the next stride, I'm just falling through the air while pushing against the fall of gravity No idea if that's makes sense. I'm used to longboarding so center of gravity is intuitive for me
Sean doing pee expression was perfect and I'm not surprised he has a lot of experience

Never thought I’d hear Brain Leak talk about my sport (running) before GMFST lol. Yeah, running is great for cardio but if you have gait issues or don’t use the right shoes or overtrain, it puts you at a risk for overuse injuries and joint problems later in life. I think way too many people go way too hard way too fast, putting tons of miles under their belts each week without any rest time or crosstraining (swimming, biking, yoga, strength training, etc). I work at a running store and do gait analyses to fit people for shoes and get SO nervous when I have customers start telling me they are running every day or only wear paper-thin racing shoes for every workout, trying to do a marathon in their first year of running, etc. Running is great but it’s also *hard,* and you need to let your body repair and rest from all the stress you’re putting it under. Also, pro tip: try running on canal paths, dirt/gravel paths, or even trying trail running if you wanna reduce impact on your knees. Like track surface, dirt and gravel is softer than asphalt or concrete, plus if you pick up trail running it requires your ankles to move in different ways to gain better traction, so you aren’t just pounding the exact same points in your body every single time.
My (weekend) daily routine is to zombie walk out of bed and sit on the couch while I take 2 hours to wake up. Take the dog out for potty and play. Eat one protein bar. Choose one or two entertainment activities (like movies, shows, video games, and/or reading) to do until bed time. Take the dog out again before the sun goes down. And then sleep. The picture of a healthly lifestyle. Lol.
love the pause at the bottom of Seán's screen. my daily routine is barely get out of bed, game, back to bed. who needs food and shit time

One thing I saw that was really interesting was someone pointing out the swimmer build. A swimmer (not professional) explaining how he stayed lean etc and the 2nd person talked about how that worked. Something along the lines that often people pursue professional swimming (or other weight/muscle vased athletics) because their build and the way their body gains muscle works for that profession. People are good swimmers because they can naturally keep that muscle and weight easily, their workout/diet is only the tip of the iceberg. Not everyone can maintain that, especially without majorly altering the way they live - which often isn't worth it.
Ethan comparing Speed to Donnie from the Wild Thornberries is the most validating thing ever that is exactly how I perceive Speed

lifting heavy weights is actually very important for health!! especially for women whose bones break down after menopause because of estrogen! Injury is not guaranteed - it's important that you do so within reason, don't focus on PRing, focus on building functional strength through exercises like bent over rows, RDLs, squats etc. any exercise is not dangerous if you take it from a holistic perspective of your body. only lifting heavy weights it hard on your heart so you need cardio (most people will do either or) and best of all, consult with a personal trainer or physio therapist! unless you are recovering from an injury, lifting weights is an important way to PROTECT YOURSELF from injury such as lifting a new tv or jumping down from a rock.
I think the 'family time' MW has designated might be designated for *making* more family, rather than compromising spending family time with meetings lol
Wacky upload time it's 3 am for me lmao
For running advive: Run on the balls of your feet, keep your head up, don't clench your fists. Focus on your breathing, Don't lean forward. It's crazy how much it helps your endurance when you keep these in mind

Here comes a useless but interesting fact from a kinesiologist! How to plant your foot when running: Believe it or not this is a heavily debated topic amongst sport and kinesiology professionals. Generally speaking, you see a trend toward heel strikes the larger the heel in the shoe. In zero drop (barefoot shoes) where there is no heel, athletes and normies alike tend to strike on the ball of the foot and run with their weight much more forward, feet landing on the ground barely in front of or directly under them. The only thing that’s very widely accepted is that striking flat-footed is typically inefficient and potentially damaging to the foot, knee, and ankle.

The talk about how to run, god 😭😭 same. I also feel like slow while running? Like idk something is weird-
Good toes. Underappreciated.
Interesting to note. Dieting with a calorie deficit decreases your resting metabolic rate, since your body recognizes that there is a shortage, whereas when working out your body increases its resting metabolic rate (for repairs and stuff) and therefore it is easier to lose weight by exercising and eating the same amount of food you usually do, than dieting and being constantly hungry. The best is to eat a variety of food and exercising at least 150 min a week (moderately.. no need to kill yourself), this is a lifestyle and it keeps you healthy while maintaining your ideal weight! p.s. I'm a medical student, and from our biokinetics and obesity lectures there are studies that suggest being fit is more important than losing weight, obviously both are ideal, but even when you struggle losing weight rather focus on exercising every week and maintaining fitness to live a long, happy, quality-rich life!
