Mark Rober Gives Up on Science While Eating Spicy Wings | Hot Ones
Ойын-сауық
Mark Rober is a NASA engineer-turned-KZread juggernaut whose videos range from building the world's largest Super Soaker, to the annual porch-pirate glitter-bomb holiday extravaganza. He also has a new project on the way called Mark Rober's Revengineers, a hidden-camera, science-focused prank show coming soon to Discovery Channel. But how is he with spicy food? Find out as Rober takes on the wings of death and throws the kitchen sink of antidotes at them, attempting-unsuccessfully-to use science to escape the heat.

Sharon died just last year, and was an incredible science journalist. MAD respect.
He's an engineer at heart. Identifies a problem (wings so hot they cause discomfort), he starts a trial to find what's most effective to combat the heat. You had both clearly come in with a lot of research on the other's channel and the result felt like a perfect hybrid of a Mark Rober video and a Hot Ones interview. And for a guy who usually taps out on the taco bell mild sauce, Mark handled the challenge like an absolute champ. Even with the capsaicin remedies, this had to be brutal.
I'm so shook that Mark is in his 40's, dude doesn't look a day over 25, always got confused as to how he worked at nasa for 7 years but looks like barely in his 20s

Electrical engineer of 23 years, nerd since 1977 and I absolutely LOVE what Rober and others have done for STEM. Cool nerds have always existed in the shadows, but this guy is amazing. And do NOT EVER DOUBT how smart he actually is, working for NASA and JPL is already like top 1% of 1%.

As someone who worked for NASA in the early naughts (not JPL instead Ames Research) I'm going to disagree with the top1% of 1%. Like any corporation there is a lot of bureaucracy there, there's some level of mediocrity there, and yeah there are a lot of smart individuals who know a lot about a particular subject (astronomy, or physics, or engineer, or computer programming, or some combinations of those) but it really is no different someone who knows a lot about some other subject say history or literature it's just not as "flashy" to brag about (mom loved telling her friends her son was a rocket scientist... even though I didn't actually work with rockets at all). And unless you're one of said bureaucratic heads of a department pay is not really anything to write home about either, above a teacher's salary sure but not that much above, it's by no means any Google/Apple type of pay salary (and I use those as examples because Ames Research is near by). Don't get me wrong, I'm not in any way upset or angry about NASA, but I know I'm not the top 1% much less top 1% of 1%, and I am humble enough to know there are people who know so much more than me it's not fun, some of them are at NASA, some of them work at universities, and that's just in the topics I know about. I'm not denying Rober is a super smart guy mind you, he's definitely got an engineer's mindset, I'm just saying just because you work there doesn't mean you are by default smart, it's not like a think tank where they only hire the smartest and brightest minds... I mean I got hired for crying out loud :)
This has to be one of my new favorite Hot Ones interviews. I can't even begin to list all of the awesome parts of this video. All I can say though is my jaw actually dropped on that monster of a Last Dab.
It's one of the first time I see the editors have fun with Sean and I wish we could see it more often because it's great! This was such an entertaining episode. Definitely one of my favourites.

That thing about the frisbee isn't really true, I mean, not entirely. The best 'frisbee' is actually a hollow ring. It's the gyroscopic effect that makes it stable, and the weight of the ring has a high inertia, so it keeps rotating very easily. Yes, the air is 'tripped' by the edge of ring, but it has a very fine edge and does not rely on the Coanda effect at all.
Being a civil engineer's daughter... I love Mark Rober!!! He brings engineering cool to the masses.
What a great sport. The frisbee explanation is how you do it, this dude is engaging when teaching!
